Chapter 32

Eclipse
I woke up to tiny stings on my leg, and a completely red eyed Alpha glaring at me. His breaths were deep and menacing; he had let his wolf completely take over. He was leaned over with his elbows on his knees, hands folded under his chin. I was scared. I should have had someone with me, and I should have stayed home.
I couldn’t bring myself to words with all his rage in the air, so I just sat there and stared at him, unable to avert my eyes from his gaze. “Be calm, little mate.” Alpha’s wolf snarled. “You are safe now. He will die for touching you.” His voice rumbled with a deep growl, as if he were trying not to shift in the small room…. He smelled like the day he won against the Alpha challenger, Matt, but he felt like a brewing storm you could see from the shore.
There was a knock, and the doctor came in slowly. He held his head low, oddly matched eyes down because Rakaam was out… not Kaiden.
“Alpha, I must be honest. This break is pretty bad. Her shot should wear off in about four hours from now, but I’ll have something arranged for pain management.” He said holding a black sheet, and held it to the light. “I know it’s a little hard to see, but Luna has her leg broken in multiple places.” I could see what he was talking about, but I let him continue, whereas Alpha’s wolf was livid.
Rakaam growled, which completely submitted Shimmer, who was still shook from being attacked. I was half the size of that male… he lifted me off the ground and chomped my leg like it was nothing, and this thought made Alpha’s wolf even more upset.
“Continue.” He commanded with crossed arms.
“Well, to be brutally honest Alpha, I’m surprised she’s awake… we stitched holes his fangs left after we flushed them out. Usually we would leave them open, but in her case, her main artery in her leg was severed. It would be best to have that covered as best as possible until it heals. That area will not be covered with the cast though, since I suspect it will drain a few more hours. We also gave her a blood transfusion as well.”
Rakaam said nothing, but he was livid. He allowed him to continue though. The doctor was explaining it in a way a wolf would understand.
“She has a break here and here, above and below the knee.” He pointed at the X-ray. “Since it was so bent, we also had to put the kneecap back in the right place as well, but that should heal the same time as the leg.” He said pointing to the knee area in the picture…. It looked like there were chunks of bone shattered in both spots…
Rakaam again said nothing, but he growled a long, low rumble that could be felt in your chest.
“With your permission, Alpha and Luna, I must touch her leg again to apply a cast. After I apply it, it would be best to sit still a few minutes.” Said the doctor, obviously shaken, but much better than me at hiding it.
We nodded. He did this not just for respect, but also so that there were no sudden moves near me. The doctor then got up, and pulled out a pink wrap that had the words ‘quick cast’ written over and over on it. “I am going to apply the cast now.” He stated. He lifted up my leg, and I winced in pain. Rakaam shot up and let out a bloodcurdling growl. It was one I’d never heard before.
“I’m ok.” said Shimmer taking over for me.
He let out an annoyed sigh. “Little mate…” he said, placing a hand on my shoulder, looking at me with a blank expression. I could tell that he was trying to express how he felt without making me feel worse, but it couldn’t be helped. As his wolf, and as stern as he looked, I think I would be this way regardless.
But I wouldn’t let my feelings get the better of me this time… I reached for his hand, and he sat down in a closer chair to me. It did sting when they applied the iodine, to keep my leg clean, but I tried to keep it to myself as much as possible. If I didn’t, the doctor would at the very least get bit.
The cast was set in a little bit, and it had to go all the way up above my knee. Once it was wrapped, the wet bandage became solid, keeping my leg in place. A nurse came with prescriptions, as the clinic was also a very small pharmacy. We had to be independent from human settlements, and this way, no one had to wait either or go to another building. She left with a deep bow. Her eyes never left the floor. It was almost as if she were kneeling to disgruntled royalty in a movie.
“Let her take 2 of these for pain when she gets home every 12 hours. One is a very strong antibiotic. Those cuts were deep, and they’ll take about 3 days to heal, but the stitches will dissolve on their own.” He stated getting a clipboard from a nurse and signing something.
He was the same doctor that treated Alpha, so he must be the only one able to take the fear of his potential wrath. “I also have crutches that I would like her to use. It was a little hard finding ones in here that were mortal sized, but they should do fine.”
“She will not need them.” He said with a small snarl at the end.
He hesitated, thinking how to word what he wanted to say. “Alpha, she may need them if only for a moment, and I would like for her to be able to get around should she need to. Take them just in case, but if you wish to carry her, that shouldn’t be too bad. She’ll only need rest for a few days.” He said with a bow. “Other than that, she’s discharged. All her other injuries were superficial compared to the compound fractures and bite wound.”
“I will take you home now.” He commanded.
“She must not move that leg, or shift for at least 5 days, my Alpha.” The doctor bowed. “I can tell by her Xray that she isn’t a strong enough wolf yet to heal any faster.”
He nodded, and picked me up, walking outside. His eyes turned the slightest yellow, so that he could unlock the car, and gently place me in the front seat.
The drive home was silent. And I was stuck in my thoughts. Why did I leave? Even though I was in the pack, if I would have stayed inside and calmed down another way, I wouldn’t be in this situation…. But Alpha didn’t specifically say that I couldn’t, but it never occurred to me that anything would happen if I did. Since it had been a month since the argument for Matt’s pack placement and he told me it was smoothed over… I just assumed everything was fine. He warned me, and I scamper into the woods. If I would have been taken, what would they have done to me…
“He would have killed you, little mate. You are a small thing. You are weak, I must keep you safe. I will avenge this for you.” He said, not looking from the road. I placed my hand on his thigh. I felt him tense up, then relax. I didn’t know what to say, so I just rubbed his leg. He reached down to hold my hand while he drove. “You are my Luna. This is your pack. This is your land to roam, and he trespassed to spite me. To challenge me. To take what is mine, for he thinks the boy is his.” He rubbed my hand with his thumb in little circles, I knew that was Kaiden’s doing.
I only held my head down, and he growled in annoyance. Shimmer hadn’t said anything this entire time, because she was submitted by his presence. He felt as if he were a moment a way from losing his mind, and looked it too.
He said nothing as he got out the car and carried me red eyed to our room. He shot glares at his brother and sister, who likely sensed that he was so livid. I held onto him as he carried me with one hand, while the other held crutches and medicine that the hospital gave me. I knew when he put me down… he was probably going to go and fight Alpha Wade…
“Be calm my little mate.” Said his wolf. “If he was so bold, he had planned this. He tried to take you. You are mine.” He growled, putting his forehead to mine. It made me nervous, but I knew he meant well…. I couldn’t respond, a little frozen by his presence, because it felt. Different for only a moment. It made a weighted ball and chain clamp over my body, and he pulled away with closed eyes.
He opened them, and it seemed Kaiden had won as his eyes were amber… maybe that’s what I sensed, but regardless, he silently kissed my hand, placing the medicine bottle in it. “Get some rest. I know you’re sensitive to my aura… I wish there was something I could do about that, but there isn’t.” He said stroking my hair. He went to get me a glass of water, and came back, getting in bed with me. It tasted bitter, but it was bearable, and as he laid there, I could feel myself relax under his touch.
I wanted to tell him that I was ok, I wanted to tell him that I wished I was stronger, but I wasn’t…. That I could tell him that I knew it wasn’t my fault, but I still felt it was. Even if I hadn’t gotten lost, he was still out there… he was still planning something while he knew my mate was gone… He still would have done that something, and Alpha would still feel this way… He said nothing, letting me drift off. He stroked my hair and played with my wild frizz, not caring that I still smelled like I’d shifted.
