Chapter 37
Eclipse
Alpha was still asleep, and I saw my chance. I will have my independence. The Crutches. They tantalized me with their closeness and teased me with thoughts of outside. Nowhere crazy, just right outside the door, Alpha had put a small swing porch in the back.
I wiggled as stealthily as I could, putting a pillow under his arm so he thought I was still there. I put almost no weight on my nearly healed broken leg and in almost a bunny hop, made it to the other side of the room.
Crutches in hand, I slowly made my way downstairs, trying to be as silent as possible. He had been so busy he was honestly tired. A floorboard squeaked, and he rolled over. I froze. Thankfully, he was still asleep, his breathing was slow and steady. When I got to the bottom I froze again. The warriors had been watching me creep down the stairs like I was in a spy movie. I put my lips to my fingers, then pointed upstairs. They nodded with knowing smiles.
This is my third attempt at freedom, and damnit all I just wanted to see was what outside looked like. I’d been cooped up 3 days, and watching the sun rise sounded cool. I would invite Alpha, but he refuses to allow me to go outside or leave the house in general. I made my way to the back door, being escorted by two very large warriors of their own accord. Well, I made it at least, I thought to myself. Shimmer wanted to go back to bed with Alpha, I wanted to feel this wet grass under my bare feet.
I looked up at the sky, the clouds were pink and gold. There was a chill in the air today, and the leaves were starting to slowly lose their green. They wafted gently in the cool air of the morning breeze, while I could hear the birds sing happily in the oak and cedars. It was a little crisp this morning too; but I welcomed that. The summer sun was intense, and the sweater with hot cocoa weather was more than welcomed. The warriors helped me to the garden area where there was the new porch swing, and still a few, but wilting flowers.
However, you could tell that it was well maintained, as they still bloomed in a rainbow of colors. The warriors said nothing, they just stood guard, but I knew that they too enjoyed the refreshing break. They were the night crew too, so they would be out in the forests looking for Rogues instead of hanging out with me.
It was so pretty.
“It’s not as beautiful as you babygirl.” I heard a whisper in my ear, along with the plop of Alpha on the bench, putting his arms around me.
The guards left, leaving the two of us. He leaned his head down and kissed me on the top of the head, it sent a shiver down my body. I rubbed my hands on his chest. It was almost on reflex; he smelled so good, like the crunch of the first fall leaf. He leaned down and kissed me tenderly, and slowly. I put my arms around his neck, pulling him down a bit He put his hands on my hips and put me on his lap, and we broke away, for him to hold me.
“Next time just ask babygirl.” He whispered with a smirk.
I scrunched my eyebrows, “How long did you know?” I wondered looking up in his amber yellow eyes. He grinned mischievously.
“When you first grabbed the crutches. I was going to get you, but then I changed my mind when I saw how cute you were, when you were trying to hide from me.” He said amused with himself, kissing me on the forehead, breathing in my scent.
We went inside to find that everyone else was busy downstairs, cooking, clocking in and out, the usual. We sat on the couch, watching the news with coffee and a bagel. I also had the last of the beef stew mom made for me while Kaiden used his laptop. If anyone needed him for something, he was on the couch with me. However, no one really bothered him unless they had to. I let the young pups watch cartoons and I read, resting my head on his shoulder. Alpha put raw chunks in too, insisting that it was good for me.
I ate about at noon, and he was the one who warmed my food while he cooked for himself since that was what I wanted. He made himself pan fried steak, while I sipped the last of the broth in the bowl. It was only about a spoonful or two left when Beta Connor knocked on the table to get our attention.
“Alpha and Luna, we have visitors from the LemonMoon pack. Alpha Leon and his Luna, Pearl.” Said Beta with a laugh, knowing it would piss off his brother.
He let out an agitated sigh and pulled his black hair dramatically. “What the fuck does he want, I’m busy; where is he?” He grumbled annoyed.
I heard a chuckle behind me. He was at the doorway, arms crossed, leaning in the threshold. He looked about 40, and was a tall blonde haired, dark brown eyed man, and next to him was an almost as tall black-haired woman with blue eyes. They looked and smelled like Alphas, also being about the height of Beta Connor. I don’t think I’d seen a female that tall except for Gamma, but she held a kind smile. It was one that was genuine, one that showed she wanted to be here.
Up until this point, I’d never met another Alpha female, though she looked it. I wasn’t self-conscious, there was nothing I could do about being short, but I did know that This was the norm. Most wolves get mates that are about the same status as them, even Omegas. It may be random being born that way, but in general strong wolves mated to strong wolves….
“Good morning neighbor.” He said with a chuckle, walking to a chair next to the couch and plopped down. His mate waved and sat next to him.
“Fuck you.” Said Kaiden with a laugh, and they both leaned over to shake wrists. I stayed where I was in the safety of his lap as a pillow. I had just taken my pain medicine, so I was not about to try and get up.
“I came because I heard what happened to your mate, and I can’t lie any one of us would have done the same.” His face became serious. “I came to express my good will and that I have no intentions of challenging you. I also came to give you two a mating ceremony present.”
I almost spat out the last of my soup. Kaiden let out a laugh, seeing my embarrassment. Alpha Leon tossed Kaiden a box and handed it to me. I set my soup on the table, and I unwrapped the red ribbon.
It was his and her matching t-shirts. They were black, with white claw marks behind red words, saying ‘Born to be wild’. They were cute, and honestly, I was going to ware this out.
“I know you two are young, so when we went to Bison a few days ago I thought you would like them.” He said with a smile.
“That isn’t all you came for.” Said Kaiden, and Beta Connor, came with beers. They all started drinking but it was only 3pm. Beta would go up to get things from his printer upstairs as they talked, and Alpha would sign them while I rested my head on his knee. After they’d finished small talk, Alpha Leon finally answered his question.
“Well…. When I found out that you killed that classless oaf, I wasn’t surprised. I Was however when I found out about you having a mate through Derrick. I owe him fifty bucks now; I thought he was joking.” He waved at me, and I waved back with a yawn. I wasn’t trying to be rude, but the medicine they prescribed was really strong.
“They gave my mate resting nettle. You’ll have to excuse her.” Said Kaiden.
“…. It was That bad?” He asked. “I’m so sorry Luna Eclipse.” He said with a bow in respect.
“Thank you. They’ve been keeping me mostly pain free.” I said with a bigger yawn.
“It’s said the angels slept on a bed of nettles after fighting against a horde of demons for seven days and nights. It was said they were so tired, that when they won that battle, none cared where they rested their heads before going back to war. They actually grow in abundance in only one place; in the mountains of Grandia in Quabeck.”
“Oh.” I said interested, but slowly slipping. His mate chimed in on the conversation.
“We used to live up there, and collect it freely, but we migrated down here with Alpha Kaiden’s father. We’ve been in LemonMoon about 1000 years. Alpha moved here, we made our own pack, then Wade made Crimson a little after the split. When he came, and moved in between us, it became annoying to cross borders without him interfering.” Said his mate, Luna Pearl.
