Book 2: Chapter 56

John
“Alpha John, I come with a progress report for the development of StoneMoon, as well as the update you wanted on who would be Gamma.” Said the wolf. I didn’t recognize him, or any of the curious submissive wolves that gathered, bowing as low as they could without faceplanting. This was my first time interacting with my pack proper.
“It’s nice to meet you, but you don’t have to submit so low.” I motioned for Beta to shake wrists, and he reluctantly did so. He took no steps to the Queen, probably sensing her power. It really was intimidating and damn near unreal the first time you meet her.
“Sir, you are by far stronger than my former Alpha… an impressive feat for one so young.” He said seriously.
“With this power, I protect my pack, but let’s speak of lighter things. Breakfast’s on me.” I smiled walking into the coffee shop with him, and everyone else followed. It became crowded with curious wolves who would see their Alpha.
I got him to sit, while I ordered him a cup of coffee, bacon and a ham sandwich. My mate got an iced tea, and I had a small cup of orange juice so that he didn’t feel as though he was the only one eating. Others also ordered, but chose not to interrupt by staying inside, though it wouldn’t have bothered me if they did.
Garnet and Ann sat at their own table, while the Queen and Emerald sat at a table in the corner, just shy of the window. He was on high alert while she texted most likely her mate, allowing me and Heidi the space we needed to make decisions without interference.
“Thank you, Alpha, I am. I’m Beta Dion. We will be working together.” he said with his mouth full. “StoneMoon is soon to be an addition to LapisMoon, with the exception that you will lead us. He has done this so you may still be under his wing if you need him, but not enough to smother you. A thousand of the wolves are undergoing strict warrior training, but it will take some time for some of them to be ready. I don’t know how I’ll fair as Beta, but I have the strength. Before the attack I was a pack wolf. I was a butcher and game catcher for the local grocery store. I also shared blood with your father.” He said proudly, and I could raise my orange juice to that.
“Continue Beta.” I told him casually, and Dion cleared his throat. He was eating too fast.
“Some of the houses in the warrior district are getting roofs today, and the hope is that soon we won’t need the tents for the school. The water, gas, and electric plants are still in construction, but all systems are functional. The main road got finished yesterday. Oh, and the construction of the packhouse began today.” He beamed, but I was a little upset.
“No, don’t finish the pack house until the other wolves get their homes. I don’t want anyone homeless for our sake.” I said sternly, and he nodded.
“Thank you sir, then your arrival will be stunted, as there are still quite a few homes that still need to be completed. Also… none of the wolves left in the tribe could honestly be Gamma. All that’s left of us are pack wolves. I carry this strength only because your father shared blood with me… and I almost died. I doubt any others can handle such a transformation.” He said quietly.
“Then I won’t risk it. But I have an idea…. Garnet would you be up for that?” I asked, and he stopped eating, looking surprised.
“No one’s ever offered me a position so coveted… I will for my mate’s sake. I’m sure she would appreciate living in This pack with her friends than being left alone for weeks with me as an assassin.” He mumbled, looking at Ann, who sat across from him with her mouth full.
“It was already agreed that Delta Uteer’s twins would act as Delta.” He said finishing his meal, but I hadn’t met them that I could think of.
“Are they here?” Asked Heidi, and he nodded.
“They’re probably still telling off Warrior Commander Nells again for not keeping his receipts.” He chuckled.
“Then lead the way.” I said getting up with Heidi, holding her hand. He looked like he linked them, and we followed him down the street. I wasn’t sure how the Queen wore heals like this, but she walked the same speed as us, even though some of the sidewalk had as of yet to be finished.
In the hardware store, there were two identical male wolves, their mates, and pups. They looked a tad bored, while those two argued until they saw me.
“Perfect! Alpha, please tell this cheese-brain that we shouldn’t waste funds on a Flipp-Flappin’ Nail solon!” screamed one. They were identical black haired, green eyed dark skinned males, though thankfully I was a wolf. They smelled different. The angrier one smelled more of pine than the other. They both had their curly hair in man buns, though the one shouting also had his a little lower to the nape of his neck. Their mates were at least different.
“Drop it Flinn.” Said the angry one’s mate. She was a Native she wolf with dark brown hair, though to my understanding, about 80% were. Their pup looked allot like her, though with his skin and fur color.
“Flame, just let Alpha handle it.” Said the other’s mate, and I wanted to hear them both, so I let them continue. It wouldn’t be fair to only hear one side.
“It could be more than JUST nails! Nails, hair, tattoos, and trinkets like dog tags and Lady effigies could all be in one spot.” He said with crossed arms. His mate was a pale skinned, silver furred she wolf, yet somehow, his pup looked nearly identical to their cousin.
“Dog tags are already at the clothing store!” Yelled Flinn
“But they can’t get their hair braided, or Warriors Marks at the freaking StoneMart!” he protested. They both huffed at the same time, mirror imaging themselves by pulling their buns.
“Oh my Lady….” I put my hand to my forehead. “I think a large salon like that would work if it was on the same strip.” I said and Flame’s head shot up.
“But Alpha the Budget!” Said Flinn, looking for, then handing me a large three-pronged folder that could zip closed. “We have the room, but if we do that, I won’t be able to make the packhouse 7 stories.” He complained.
“Whoa there. I don’t need that many floors… the standard five is more than enough.” I mumbled.
“You were the only one who took us in at the High Council meeting when Beta went to them in tears…. You deserve the best.” He countered, but I would stop this.
“As do all of you. You all suffered greater than I could ever know… nor wish on even my enemies… you all deserve to have nice things…. Plus there’s space for that and a movie theater, but I would like that on the Lapis facing side of the shopping district so everyone can enjoy that.” I said with a small smile, and his eyes lit up.
“I didn’t even think of the revenue we could pull if both packs cooperated…. I need to get back to my computer. Currently only the Café has internet.” Said Flinn, shaking my hand, but I aimed for his wrist. I think this was something only ancients do, because now that I thought of it, this wasn’t the first time that’d happened to me.
“Now that you have some of your cabinet, I would like to do what I came for.” Said the Queen, walking outside to what seemed like the entire pack, young and old. She threw her hands in the air, and they glowed a golden moonlight tinted white. Her eyes turned black, which surprised most, as it wasn’t a color that existed.
“Grandma… are you sure you want to heal so many people at once?” Asked Heidi, and it was her wolf that responded, shedding tears.
“Put your hands on my shoulders, and I will use your power to aid all that hurt… all these damaged souls; I must heal this. It is why the Lady placed me here on this earth.” She whispered, but I stopped Heidi.
“But your highness, with this many people it may drain you.” I protested, and the Queen nodded.
“I have healed more than this at one time, now please allow me to do this. Heidi, I will shield you from any ill effects.” She commanded like a Luna, so it wasn’t something either of us could question.
“Ok. Help me Rahrraam.” She said quietly to him, and he leapt from her pocket. Her rat sat atop her head, and she slowly put her hands on her grandmother, that now glowed ever so slightly. The Queens’s light was slightly more orange now, but I think that was because Heidi’s power was red.
“Hear me, StoneMoon… I saw… I saw the devastation… the plague that befell your people from your own brethren. I cannot take away this much pain, but I can mend the wounds. Accept my strength that you may find peace. Know your loved ones hurt no more, and you who lost family and dear friends… and innocent pups are returned to the Lady. It will still hurt a moment, but not forever. They were loved as you are now.” She said lowering her hands, but I recognized the face she made.
She was hiding how sick it made her, but she dismissed me completely before I could even link her… it literally bounced back to me and echoed in my head. She instructed them all to form a chain by holding hands, healing the soul, but not the body; that’s what Heidi did. Any who still had silver poisoning injuries were healed, though since it’d been a while most of it was out their system. I could only stand guard with the Shadow Warriors and my Beta in case someone tried to make a fuss, but I doubted that would happen. It only took her no more than a few seconds to see each person, as you could tell how far along she was down the chain of my pack. Each one glowed about a second or two, then she would go to the next one.
I worried for them both… I don’t know how her powers worked… nor did I know exactly what she did to heal a soul, but she looked weak. Each person took a little more of her energy, and as much as I wanted to stop this, I wasn’t sure what would happen if I did. She was in a meditative state, along with my mate whose eerie red glow completely enveloped her now. They were doing a good thing… I just didn’t want them to overdo it. I knew Heidi; she was the kind of wolf who would give her last dollar, every ounce of anything she had to give… But I felt like she was giving something more than something tangible, because as they looked less burdened, the Queen needed someone to hold her arms.
Those who lost mates, pups, loved ones and friends received help. They thanked her, and it was late into the night before she was finished. Thankfully the rising moon offered them some energy, but both of them were completely spent. I worried for them both, having to help her get into the backseat of the truck, and they both fell asleep before I even left the territory.
