Book 2: 118

Heidi
“This is a line meant for my people. Come speak with me in person.” Said Rodrick.
“I’ll get him a bottle before I leave.” He said ignoring Rodrick.
Gulteer handed me a little thimble for Zahrraam to drink from. It was a little tricky at first for him, but after a few sips, he lapped it up in little squeaks. He responded to the scent right away, instinctively knowing what food was. Had I offered milk, he’d drink it, but it would give him no spiritual nourishment.
“Get What a bottle?!” He asked. “You better not be breeding slaves again!”
“I call to make peace.” He said cutting to the chase.
“I’d rather have you come and oath, with witness for your words.” Rodrick grumbled, not trusting him at all. “And Where Are You? What needs a bottle?!”
“I am here with my youngest and her mate.” Said Gulteer simply. “That is witness enough. Wouldn’t the reduction of human harvesting be enough?”
“I Trust John but not You! You leave those young ones alone!” He growled. “So help me if you hurt them, it won’t be Just the Wolf King after you.”
He full on laughed a moment. “I call to extend a friendly claw. As you have pardoned my people, I pardon yours. Through my mortal mouth, hear the merciful words of my master.” He sat proud, as if the divine decree was a gift. “So long as they aren’t aggressing or oppressing mine, the Dark Witches will be neutral, and the Witch Queen should handle the rest. Mine will neither help nor harm yours, and my word should strike enough fear into the others to fall in line. That’s the best I can do.”
“I know. We’ll take it, but meet me at about 7pm to sign the Treaty.” He said about to hang up.
“Don’t worry. I won’t stop your burning when I come over at 3pm. 7 is too late. I intend on being in bed tonight. Whomever it was broke your laws.” He said hanging up first. “Horns Below I hate that little goody-two-shoes. I made peace. Now, let me see my demon cub.” He gestured.
“No.” Said John. “I’m not sure if you’re supposed to.”
“I am. I merely want to bless him. You act as if I will indoctrinate the little one. That’s Her Job.” He said reaching for him. “I get to play Grandpa Gulteer, my favorite role.”
John sighed. “That doesn’t matter, but I’ll leave it up to my mate.”
“I don’t mind. I know he speaks the truth, because the Horned One likely gave him orders.” I said truthfully.
“Aye. I’m the only mortal made with his blood. No other can walk amongst the fire without deteriorating, being only my prodigy, and not the original. I got these souls from hell myself of my own initiative, but while I was down there… he Might have mentioned to monitor the cub, but allow you to raise it your way.” He said scratching his chin.
“Why didn’t you say that first?” Asked John, a little frustrated while I handed over my demon.
Gulteer grinned. “Because I was asked to test you two one last time. The Master does not want a repeat of Rahrraam, nor a repeat of my dearest daughter’s mistake. Zahrraam’Zeh is Nearly a copy of Rahrraam, but made of this realm’s clay… and with a title this time…. Fascinating.” He waved his hand over him. “There Little Yoltier, be claimed as your mother. Carry the crest of your people on your tongue. I wonder will it have aptitude for summoning flame, or tormenting sinners? That’s likely why he holds a title so young.” He questioned as he held it. “My blessing…. May you be the best demon your blood will allow. May you know your place and your station… May you befit the title of Zeh.”
“I know my mate will raise him well.” Said John. “The Horned One himself made it specifically for her.”
“Ah, then it Is a copy, but how you raise it will affect its personality.” He said handing him back. “What you say will be remembered, even now. They are not like mortal babes. They are made to serve, though again he blesses you, even though it is so soon since your punishment.”
“That’s probably because she’s isolated here.” Mumbled John.
“Noble And Perceptive. You’re correct. To leave her without would undoubtably get her killed. Regardless of the mortal’s words, never Trust a Human.” He spat. “Rodrick is pure, but not all of Arveil’s flock will be. No matter how secret, this place’s permanent stamp is like honey to attract flies. I’ve done my best, but should you encounter mortals again, let him fight until he dies, rises, and is remade. If he falls save yourself, you will regain him again in no more than three days.” He said factually, handing him back.
“I wonder what happens if you raise a virtuous demon….” I mumbled, stroking his fur. He fell asleep after being fed. It was his first day after all.
“It won’t matter. What Will is if he becomes obedient to the master, and acknowledges his mistress’s command.” Said Gulteer. “It would be Best if you didn’t do that. One day, when you birth witchlings, their demons must also be born. You will have to handle Two demons when the time comes, but that won’t be for another hundred years at Least.”
“I will be ready.” I said with confidence… I literally have to raise my demon this time. If I can handle that, I should be able to handle an extra demon, and become the handler of two.
“That sounds like a Yoltier.” He said proudly. “Keep that same energy next week.”
He promptly disappeared.
“Well for not, at least let him sleep in your pocket while we open the office early. I know the twins need our decision on the budget. We’re starting to make a little money at the quarry.” Said John proudly.
“I think it’s neat that there’s multiple varieties of granite are within a few miles of each other.” I said with a small smile.
“Yeah, not all packs have the luxury of having an export.” He said retuning the light grin.
------John------
Her little demon smelled as if it were a pup of mine, but I know she didn’t notice. It was Weird. I felt like she was holding my son in her arms, but that made sense... It took My blood mixed with energy from hell to make him. Any wolf would scent that he carried almost a hybrid scent, but not quite… It was like my instincts told me that there was a faint wolf nature to Zahrraam, but that could have been something the Horned One did so he’d be more accepted.
It would after all, be around us more than the coven. Maybe I was reading too much into it… but I also wondered how Gulteer Knew Eskaal had helped me…
The weapon under the bed would be his surprise when he grew old enough to wield it. That was fair, since right now the only thing he could wield is a bottle.
I got up, and let her look at the paperwork I left for today. There was a permit for the road that I needed to sign, but I also intended on making a library too. Many packs didn’t have one. Most either figured it was a waste of resources, or at the very least, complained it wasn’t needed since it would be an Alpha expense.
This is especially true, since something like that would have to be rigged to catch fire in the event of a Hunter attack. All the books of supernatural nature won’t be allowed to leave the building, and they’re marked with antitheft labels. Other than that, I figure it would be the coolest hang out spot in the pack besides the cafe. Everyone gets their coffees and boba tea, why not gossip there or the other stores here.
There was also a park already done, a pupsit center for the single working parents, and a safe-shelter that has a tunnel. It connects Lapis to Stone, then to the forests so our people can escape.
Since our pack was new, we’d done some things a little different…. Since so many wolves were without mates, nearly 48%… it only made sense to accommodate them.
“Morning.” Sang Flame. I’d opened the door for him.
“Morning.” I said getting a little soda out my minifridge before sitting down. We four shared Kola together.
“We have an extra $45,000 from our find yesterday. Red granite. $15,000 a fucking slab Alpha!” Flinn said happily.
“Here’s a paperweight from the first slab.” Said Flinn proudly.
I could see why it was so expensive. It looked almost like speckled red ruby.
It was a slab of reddish hue, looking modern. The other colors mined were blue, black, or white. When I first inspected the quarry, it was just plain darkish brown granite, but now the magic flowing through the land awakened it… and everyone wanted a slab for their buildings, offices, and kitchens. For now, we hold exclusive trade with supernaturals, though the duller hues might get marketed, and labeled rare so humans won’t be suspicious.
“Funnel it into the high school. I want the kids out of those portables.” I said pulling out a map. The high school was the last one under construction. That was Fine, especially since the magically imbued stone was turning a profit. It was blessed with a bit of holy water and moon blessed saline, but I was already informed by father that that wasn’t needed.
I still did though. I wouldn’t want to haunt the house countertops across the country.
