Chapter 43

Eclipse
“Babygirl, I’m sending you and the other wolves to the second packhouse.” He commanded firmly. I was confused. We were so close last night, and he was all of a sudden throwing me away?
“It isn’t like that babygirl, I’ll be back to get you I promise” he kissed me long and soft. He put his arms around me and pulled me so close to him, lifting me up to meet his gaze. He looked me longingly in the eyes, but the instinct of the wolf is to be close… any separation right now would feel like this…
I was unsure if we could ever leave this moment, because I knew afterwards, I’d be alone. I never wanted to let him go, and with a serious look in his eye, he put me down. “Goodbye babygirl, I’ll see you next week, ok? This isn’t what I want either, but this must be done… I know we just completed the mating ceremony, but I swear to you I wouldn’t have everyone leave without reason.” He said, kissing me one more time.
“Ok…” I mumble, feeling empty without him at my side. I got a few belongings and left with Beta Connor, I looked back at the packhouse, so much had happened. And I finally shared my most intimate moment with him, and the next morning he’s sending me away…. But he said it wasn’t like that. Like what? What wouldn’t he tell me?
We shifted, and we ran to the other packhouse. The forest was filled with an eerily silent gallop. There were no howls or snarls of the pack, but rather we ran like this… it made me wonder why.
[Luna is this speed ok?] Beta asked in wolfspeech and I nodded.
[Thank you for asking, and yes.]
He made sure to run at my pace, but I could tell that he and his mate were waiting on me. I hadn’t really spoken with Nancy, but she was a beautiful golden brown wolf, while her mate’s fur was pitch black. When we arrived there were already a lot of people there, and there were some who opted to stay with other pack members in their homes. No one knew what was happening, and it was bothering me.
The white colonial packhouse was grand and had many floors. Its ceiling was vaulted, and the fireplace was like one from the 16th century, being so wide and ready for fire, though it wasn’t quite cold enough to put pyres of wood in its gaping, but wood filled hearth. I followed Beta to the front of it, needing a bit of time to collect my thoughts, and I could tell that whatever it was… it had to be a big reason.
Why did everyone need to leave the pack? Why is it like we were being evacuated?
“Pretty isn’t it, My Luna?” A tall woman with white hair said gently; she was pretty, and looked about 45, snapping me from my thoughts. “I’m Lilly” she Stated, and we shook hands.
I didn’t know what to say to her… she kneeled to me, recognizing me as Luna even though I could scent her strength. She wasn’t the strongest female in the pack, but she still carried the faintest scent of a Luna… though it was nearly overpowered by the scent of sadness.
“This side of the pack is beautiful.” I said with a smile. We would have talked longer, but I think Beta’s presence scared her off. He put a hand on my shoulder, and wolves cleared out his way.
Connor did a loud whistle to get everyone’s attention.
“Pack, I am Beta Connor, and this is your Luna, Eclipse. Treat her with all the respect you would Alpha Kaiden, because I shouldn’t have to tell you how fast you’re gonna lose your sorry ass hide if either of us catch you.” He said with an authoritative snarl.
It made most of them act like they were obeying an Alpha, but I’ve been snarled at by Rakaam, so it didn’t scare me like I thought it would. I didn’t even flinch. Shimmer was proud at my boldness. /We are the Luna/, she said, tail high in my mind.
I went upstairs to the Alpha quarters, and it was bare except a new bed and linen. The closets were empty as well, a plain, but elegant white room. I pulled my laptop out my bag and connected to the Alpha’s private Wifi. I sent Alpha Kaiden an email of me missing him already, and he immediately emailed me back saying that he missed me and told me to stay safe.
Active wolves didn’t usually carry phones unless they knew for a fact that they wouldn’t shift. It was a safety precaution to not lose it in the woods, or accidently smash it. But when he no longer responded, it was too lonely to be in there by myself….
I went downstairs, and it was twice as busy as it usually was at my old home. Someone had made coffee, and I thought it would be a good idea to mingle with the new pack members, and talk to them.
I felt watched, oddly enough. The place was crowded, so there was no telling by who. I decided just in case to go sit by a big burly warrior with a buzzcut. He bowed and was honored to have my trust, and I sat on the couch quietly. They swore their loyalty to Alpha Kaiden, and they would die to protect me, or be killed by him for their disobedience.
The pups got reign of the Tv, watching cartoons, and I was on my laptop, talking to Alpha when he did respond back.
“Luna if I may interrupt.” Said the Warrior. “If you need anything, let me know.” He said with a small smile.
“No, I’m fine. Just emailing Alpha while he’s on a bit of a break.” I said trying to hide the fact that I was a little upset that he wouldn’t tell me what was going on. “You know him. He never keeps his cellphone unless he’s absolutely sure he isn’t shifting.”
“Oh, tell me about it. I’m a Border Patrol Warrior for Crimson side, and I know at least half the phones we find out there are ours.” He chuckled. “I’m going to make some more coffee. I have next watch. I’ll make you some tea.” He said cheerfully.
Not a moment after he left, I felt hunted, but no one would try anything with so many Warriors around, and Beta within arm’s reach. I knew though that it wasn’t a fluke, but it could be my instincts as much as it was that someone was getting a good look at the new Luna. I had never been on this side of the pack, so any who hadn’t come over to CharredMoon side wouldn’t know me.
I went back upstairs to try and sleep, but it was the first night after the mate bond’s completion… it wasn’t happening. My wolf wanted Alpha, and my heart did as well… but he was busy. It had to be something big for him not to come to the packhouse to be with me… and even bigger if he said he’d be gone as long as he said….
Everyone had found a place to stay, while I went downstairs. It was empty, even Warriors who would usually hang out on their breaktime in the kitchen weren’t in here. I turned on my laptop, and went downstairs before the sun. It was so hard to sleep without Alpha. He is so big and warm; you can’t help but feel safe around him. All I wanted to do was to put my arms around him again and tell him I loved him. He was probably just as lonely, wanting me to be by his side, hearing him growl or mumble in his sleep every so often.
I Knew I was being a pup about this, but my only real excuse was that I was letting my newfound instincts and feelings get the better of me.
I got some tea and I sat with my feet on the couch to stabilize my laptop, but somehow it got knocked over. I looked up, to see a blonde girl about my age, looking confrontational. She was at least a foot taller than me, and there was no one else around. It wasn’t a shift change yet, and I didn’t tell any warriors to come sit with me, I felt like it would be rude to wake them up after most of them had just gone to sleep… and the others were out watching the pack. That meant most who were awake were out in the wilds.
“You act like you own the place; this is MY house bitch” she growled. What had I done to make her hate me? At least that was how she sounded.
“Excuse me?” I question with a growl from Shimmer, she didn’t like being disrespected. The Luna should get just as much respect as Alpha. It is law. But I was also stalling since I knew I was smaller than her. the human size difference was too great.
“You heard me.” She glared.
I stood. “You should stand down.” I warned. It wasn’t confident, but I don’t think it would have mattered. She held the body posture of a wolf that was offended. She had no right to be, but she seemed to likely be upset that She wasn’t Luna. However, the biggest issue about this was that I was alone, and I could tell I wouldn’t be able to fight her like she wanted.
“You’re a Fucking joke! You come in here, all prissy and think that we’re supposed to bow down to your little ass because you fuck the Alpha!” she snarled challenging me. Shimmer wanted to take over, but she wasn’t as big as this wolf.
But she did take over, and she was livid.
