Book 3: Chapter 77
Zayde
The enormous black pearl was abandoned, but I’m sure he’ll be back for it later. I could feel the dull hum of water magic that flowed through it… Even from a distance.
We flew in low after teleporting to New Apple. I was cloaked and this was meant to be stealthy.
“Now for the legitimately dangerous task.” He smiled. “Even for me.”
“….We’re *really* going to Uriel’s grave?” I asked in disbelief. He’d briefed me on it in the ocean…. But it was still batshit crazy to enter the domain of the likes of him.
Dead or not.
As magically adept as General Eskaal is…. Neither of us could take the Unicorn King.
“Remember. Dive. Shrink. Shift. Land. I get the purity, and we *run*.” Said my general. “We’ll have about 2 seconds at *best* before he’s summoned. Uriel is immune to my spells, *and* your fire.”
Oh ok. Thanks for telling me this *now.*
“Yes sir.” I said like a soldier. This was the most legitimately dangerous part of this. Uriel *will* kill us on sight most likely. I can’t see a blessed warrior of the Light Court letting us live long enough to tell him this isn’t for some evil plan or something.
I watched all the walking Poppin-tarts walk home, or drive in their cars… the demon blood makes me hungry for man-flesh… and that bloodlust for the sake of this mission was repressed. I flew low, being twice the size of many of the dragons out here. They too were cloaked. It was a nice cloudy night tonight, which gave plenty of cover with magic.
Eskaal steered me again, but I trusted him. The burial site of Uriel was a hospital in New Apple. I believe the 5th Seat’s territory, since he owns so many.
“You’re right, but Oliver’s not our mission, that is.” Pointed General Eskaal. I’m sure those with Second Sight would see the glow.
We flew in low, and I got smaller. He braced our landing with magic, and we pretty much ran-walked to a site of Saint Raphiel’s tears…. It was said that the angel cried over his grave, and the little white flowers sprang from Uriel’s body.
I wouldn’t know… I wasn’t in that fight. I was collecting the dead for Grahkes…
I could *see* the holy energy here… I doubt demons, familiars, or any of the Night Court proper have a easy time here. I could bet binding and banishing’s easier too… The pulse of white light could not be seen by mortals, but I know with so much blessed magic, that only those in the most dire situation died.
My general summoned a glass jar, and took only a cup’s worth… how it didn’t burn his hands off getting near such concentrated magic… it is beyond me.
“And Pray Tell What The Fuck Do You Think You’re Doing?” Asked the Unicorn King…
In flesh…
Oh
Shit.
“Alright Zayde, you’re up.” Said Lord Eskaal.
The King stood there with his holy fucking flaming sword drawn, and I looked at Eskaal blankly.
“Well don’t just stand there.” He pushed me forward a little. “Do stuff.”
He was messing with me. We took a second too long, being rightly fucked.
“What do you expect *just* me to do?!” I yelled. “I’m not fighting you.”
“Good. I don’t particularly like killing children.” He said sternly with crossed arms. “I ask again. Why are you *stealing* from my light well?”
“…Uh…” I felt *on the spot.*
Uriel really can destroy entire armies on his own. I am *no* match. The Realm King had to kill him to put him out the war. He was so skilled that the gods felt it was cheating that he participate.
“Well?” He asked, releasing his crystal horn. It hummed….
“This world is Sanctuary now, right?” I asked. “Doesn’t that mean we can’t fight on Urth anymore?”
“Aye.” Said the Unicorn King. “But last I checked, turning you to ash before you can leave isn’t fighting.”
….His hostility is something else….
“We mean to take this, to purify a wolf in the service of Lord Tyson.” I said honestly.
“Oh, then that’s fine.” He said summoning his sword. I could feel the heat off it. “But come near my old grave again and I’ll have you sliced so thinly, that your master will use you for hot pot.” He hissed.
“Yes Sir.” Me *and* Eskaal said at the same time.
I gave him a bit of a side glare.
“What?! What do you expect *me* to do?!” Lord Eskaal smiled.
“I Don’t KNOW?! Magic?!” I complained.
“You won’t get a breath to cast it.” He said with narrowed eyes. “Do you threaten me, *boy?*”
“Stop picking on my general.” Said the Realm King behind us. I hate missions.
This isn’t fun anymore. I feel like a child, and there’s nothing I can do about it.
“I wasn’t picking on anybody!” Shouted Uriel.
“Uh-huh. You just wanted to be a jackass. Eskaal do you have the Rage Plague ready yet?”
“Yes master. It’s on your desk on your island.” He said with a bow.
….He left a *plague* on the master’s desk?!
“Good. I’ll review it one more time. I like the idea.” He said vanishing.
“I need to bless the mortal with the gift to cure it.” Said Uriel. “Stop being a nuisance. What am I saying? It’s your job.”
He vanished too.
“Now let’s go restore a wolf, and I’m thinking for lunch, we could go to Cheddur’s. My treat.” He said casually.
I see why Grahkes is so loyal. I don’t *get* the luxury of human food often… but I’ve had an imitation Montecristo I made at home before… Now I get to have the REAL thing!
\-----Tiffany----
“Today is a treat.” Said Gulteer. “With the blessing from the master himself, my daughter has been tasked to summon a Greater Serpent. For those who do not know of my master, but live here, you’re more than welcome to watch. But be respectful, and don’t come into the arena.” He warned. “Serpents’ venom is flaming liquid, like napalm. To keep anyone from inhaling the vapors, or it getting in contact with your skin, I have placed a barrier over the bleachers.”
Nobody said anything, and with that, he sat with the multitude of curious eyes.
The bleachers were packed, and the runes were primed with goat blood. There were no humans on the island at all, so once I complete this part, I’m supposed to be put in a deep sleep to collect the hearts.. Red Diamond is where I’ll recuperate and synchronize myself with the new magics. I wouldn’t be able to go to Yellow for that, since our farm only had 300 humans
Humans have essentially a two month break with our setup, instead of every two weeks, like at others.. This way, it isn’t so hard on them. We could have gotten only 150, but for the piece of mind, and not making life too hard on them was what me and Casey wanted. The other human managers don’t care. They were hired for their efficiency, while Casey, Goot, and Sai’fire make sure nobody goes too far.
“Ifreya, mate of my mater’s retaining steed… I summon you.” I said summoning the Yellow Staff. I let a single chime radiate through the stone.
I could see why the master sent me here. So much energy was here, that sacrifice for the most part isn’t needed… but Lord Gulteer still sat patiently in the bleachers. Any curious witches where also down here, and even non Dark Witches were allowed to see.
As I drew the red runes in the air, they became encased in fire.
The ground shook, and a long, thin serpent burst from a portal in the stone.
“The master gave word a worthy opponent would be challenge… and none better than Theophania. May we work together again.”
/Long ago, the Yoltier summoned her. She was used in battle, with multitudes of men as her fodder…/
“Aye, but this time, I cannot use you as my people did before.” I said firmly. “I wish to bind my blood, to shift.”
“HA! Little Yolteir, you are to soft and small for such a task. Go summon your mate. Haru speaks well of him.” She said kindly, not to offend.
“I admit… I am flesh, though that does not mean I lack.” I said getting into a fighting stance.”
“Then so be it. I will not show mercy.” She hissed, lunging at me with lightning!
She was so fast, that I didn’t see her move, but reflexes saved me…. Reflexes that I didn’t have this life. I countered with a fireball, and she spread her wings out wide to make lightning rain onto the stone.
