Book 2 Chapter 30

John
“I know.” He whispered back. “But pretend you’re handing this to the security guard anyway. I didn’t want to risk anyone knowing your location by printing your Id’s.” He said, slipping us small blank squares. I slipped it in my wallet, and I sighed internally. This would never work, but since he was an Elder, he probably had connections in here to make things happen. It would only make sense anyway.
We stood in line like everyone else, but the thing that made us stand out was that we weren’t on our phones. I know my mate’s was destroyed, and mine was on the bed at home… damnit. I know only an hour had past without it, but it felt like forever. I didn’t want to talk to anyone, in case a stray human heard, and we couldn’t link. This was also inconvenient. I hated all the intense smells and sounds too, but at least I heard some interesting stories from some of the humans.
They looked average? At least so much so to all the other humans in the room. I had never actually spoken to a human before besides the hunters… and I decided they shouldn’t count. The woman was sandy blonde, a little taller than Heidi, with dark eyes and freckles. Her male was at the most the height of the average female she wolf. He had on some baggy white t shirt and shorts with flip flops, while I think she looked a bit more formal in her black slacks and blue blouse. He was balding, which is rare for us wolves, and what was left was the same brown that matched his hazel eyes.
By the sound of it, the human woman had a sick mother who was only 87. They wanted to see her, and discuss the terms of the will while she was on her deathbed, and they hoped that they could be the ones responsible for the burial. They talked shit about the woman’s sister, who apparently only wanted the estate to sell, but she shouldn’t be in the will. Her human mate said to call her brother about it when they landed to make a plan. I still couldn’t wrap my head around the short lives… their mother would still look like a teenager at that age if she were supernatural. Hell, she probably wouldn’t even have had pups yet with her mate.
I showed the man the blank paper, and he let us through. He was a thin, but tall man with tired eyes. He looked like he was about to fall over and go to sleep at any moment, either that, or he hated his job. Then I smelled it. He was a goblin. I’d never met a one before, and if we weren’t pressed for time since everyone was trying to kill me, I would have liked to ask him how was it like being a magic caster. Heidi can do both, but she is also a bit biased because of her past. I didn’t think that she would like to talk about what it’s like, since the witches were asswholes to her.
I also realized at that moment I needed to shut up, because Alpha Wisp didn’t need to know that if he was listening. I didn’t really get if it was passive, or did he have to focus on us, but I didn’t want to take a chance.
Once cleared, we left for the private jet. Thank the fucking Lady. The run walking everyone did looked like we were full on running to a human, but really… we could realistically dash there in a minute. It was just no one wanted to alert the humans. We got on the plane, and there was an Omega stewardess and pilots. She looked absolutely terrified of me for some reason, and even more so with Alpha Wisp. I had forgotten to the average wolf, I smelled dangerous. I scared her because she knew I was of ancient blood, and she also knew that meant I had something to do with the King.
“Be calm young one. Bring me some wine, I need a taste to calm my wolf.” Said Alpha Wisp with a small smile, and she relaxed her shoulders a bit, bowing to us. Beforehand, she was too scared to remember to.
“Yes, your highness.” She said quietly, but he shook his head. She was a thin she wolf with her hair in a little black bun. Her eyes looked as if they were trying to be her wolf’s, but they only became a glassy brown.
“I am only but a councilman, he is his majesty’s son in law, and heir to the Second Seat.” He pointed to me, but I wish he hadn’t said that. The Second Seat is the most important besides the Charred One, as it is the Seat who holds the most sway with the King. My father is also eligible to take the throne should Alpha Kaiden not be ready, or not wish to have it, but he has no right to fight for it. He too is a Lower Prince.
“Hi, I just want a bottled water.” I waved awkwardly, and my mate looked shy. She didn’t want anyone to say who she was. She didn’t like the attention, but she also didn’t like that the girl looked so timid.
“Yes, your highness.” She said quickly, nearly running to the small fridge to get refreshments, but my mate gave me a glare.
“John don’t scare her.” She said looking at me as if I were a super villain, but I didn’t try to be bossy or scare her, it was only natural. She had probably never served the council, and if her wolf wasn’t dormant, it would be the cause of about half of the fear. I didn’t know how to respond to my offended mate, because I felt as if her statement was loaded.
“I don’t know what to do about it Heidi. It just happens wherever I go now and I don’t like it…” I told her, and she softened her gaze a little.
“I know, I just… I don’t like servants being mistreated.” She admitted, and it dawned on me that she reminded her of herself…. I chose to comfort her with a side hug than to say anything about it. I didn’t want the Breathless One to know too much. I kept slipping up. Ugh.
The woman came back and handed us water and wine with a bow. “I will take my leave.”
The Alpha and I nodded for her to leave, and she gave another bow. She nearly ran off to the stewardess section of the plane, and we left her alone.
The flight was long, and honestly… it was boring except for seeing the sun rise from the inside of a plane. My mate and Ann had fallen asleep, both drooling on me. I was fine with it; I wouldn’t move them.
“That little human you turned is going to die.” Said Alpha Esmond.
“What.” I demanded to know details.
“She thinks too loudly, and her adult wolf behaves as a pup, as she is new to the world…. You could trick her like a small child. All flight, you have worried of what I shouldn’t know, but she has told me everything without asking.” He said seriously. “She will be returned home. If the other seats, especially Jang and Brutus, they will use her against you.” He said sipping more wine. He had sipped about 6 glasses now, but he wasn’t drunk. His eyes weren’t even bloodshot.
“She may be in danger if I do that.” I told him, and he shook his head.
“Then I will house her. My son and his mate will guard the soul-pup until she is claimed.” He said casually, and I thought long and hard about this.
“But If Brutus is third… doesn’t he have the means to get to you?” I asked…. Because he was 4th.
“You are quick as a whip. Yes, though no one cares about this one. Not yet. They don’t know she’s important. They will know when they smell her. They will know you and your father turned her, and try to use that to their advantage. By your questioning, I Know she means something to you, and that makes her a target. She will be kidnapped or killed in 48 hours maximum.” He finished the bottle, and wiped his mouth with a napkin. “They are as ruthless as they are cunning. Remember that.”
“I know. My father had given me the same warning, nearly word for word…” I told him, looking at them both. Sparkle wasn’t angry or possessive in the slightest with Ann or her wolf… wolves will notice that bond if I have her around…. “I don’t know what to do then…. I know. I would like her to go to Alpha Kaiden’s pack.” I said out loud, but he looked like he saw a ghost.
“If you are why His Majesty has trouble, it will make bad blood between the King and his Second. I will not allow it.” He said sternly.
“Too bad, I overrule it. No one is dumb enough to annoy the Wolf Prince, especially his family. Give me your phone.” I demanded, and he hesitated, and I called Alpha Kaiden, I knew he was up.
“Alpha Kaiden Speaking.” He said calmly, so he hadn’t had his coffee yet.
“Morning Alpha.” I said and I heard him shuffle around.
“Are you two ok?!” He demanded.
“Yes, but…. Alpha I have a problem… Me and Heidi are on our way to the castle early, but it seems you know that. I’m with the Breathless One, so we’re safe, but… there’s this girl.” I tried to think of how to explain it.
“What girl?” He snarled.
“Her name is Ann, and I turned her with my father after she saved our lives, but she’s a fresh turned Kappa, she’s mince meat if she sets foot in the castle with- ” he cut me off.
“With the Third and old Fifth seat I know. Send her here. Beta will pick her up. To touch her here would bring my wrath and I’m sure he has enough sense not to fucking try me.” He snarled. He hung up and I looked at Alpha Wisp with a smirk.
“… I will make the arrangements on Ron’s tab.” He said with a grin.
