Chapter 97
Jerold
I snorted to blow some steam out my nose. I had gotten tired of being in this small room, with all the stuck-up snobbish nobles of the fae creatures.
I drank some wine Ashital provided me; he was easy going enough. He promised to spar with me after the meeting, because he too, was bored. We were creatures of war, not diplomacy.
“Battle Bull, what do you think?” Asked Sky. The Unicorn Queen sat there patiently, tapping her finger on the desk.
“On what?” About half the court grunted.
“What to do with the mortal?” She said, agitated that I didn’t hear them.
“I don’t know, Ashital, you could keep him?” I asked.
“Hmm?” He said… he had fallen asleep.
“Keep the human.” I repeated.
“Ask my mate.” He said sleepily.
“I don’t want a mortal here, but I don’t trust the goblins.” Said Gwyneth.
There were grumbles of approval, and I was finally free. Me and Ashital got out our chairs first and went into the courtyard, drawing a crowd. I didn’t even wait to take off my suit, I shifted, and he immediately attacked me.
We exchanged blows, as we were equal in power, but we made a note not to use horn or claw. I picked him up and tossed him across the garden, and he tackled me to the ground and mock shook my shoulder. If he were serious, I wouldn’t have an arm. I mock punched him in the gut and rolled on something stone to get up. We laughed, and I had a good time until he suddenly retreated and shifted back.
“Little mate!” He yelled with concern.
“Don’t you ‘little mate’ me! You both ruined my garden!” She screamed; her eyes were black. I shifted back and looked around…. We had gotten carried away indeed. It was completely trashed as I had crushed all her statues….. She had her focus on him and shifted. I don’t understand wolf well, but she really cursed him out while he hugged her in his human form to keep her from attacking me. She was always the one with the temper.
“You should get dressed and leave before she is freed.” He said with an amused chuckle.
I shook my head and walked naked to the guest room, causing all the nonshifter, unmated females to look. Being naked as a shifter is just as normal as breathing. We are part of nature, and nature doesn’t care.
I thought it best to sleep with some shorts on just in case.
It was 2 in the morning, and I was tired from my small spar with Ash, as well as that long ass meeting. He and I were the strongest of the council, and thankfully we weren’t the same species… because then our spar would be serious. I woke up with scrunched eyebrows, looking at the alarm clock. I heard a knock on my door, it was 5 in the morning, and it was Diana, the fairy queen.
“When do you leave?” She asked. She was in only a bra and her underwear…. Her robe was iridescent and see through. I sighed.
“At 7, why?” I ask annoyed.
“…For old time sake would you help me out?” She said, closing the door.
“I have a mate now.” I tell her bluntly. She turned off the light and walked slowly, putting her hand on my chest and moving down, grabbing my nether regions. I growled at her.
“We don’t get mates… we get husbands.” She hissed. “Husbands who leave you for a fucking witch only to die as a damn ingredient.” She said bitterly, massaging me. Had this been a century ago I would have indulged her, but now she only made me angry. I didn’t care what she wanted. I was getting a sensation of bloodlust. She needed to move. Now.
“No. The Pale Lady actually gave me a very small mate. Ask her nicely and you might get one. So kindly remove your hands before I shift and remove them for you. I can only contain so much rage.” I say calmly, and I saw the hair on the back of her neck stand up.
She stared at me in disbelief, backing away, and I had begun to get hooves. She scampered out after that, and I had to get up and take a cold shower to try and calm down. I wanted to kill her, but then it would be a war between her people and mine, and she had more subjects.
My horns, fangs, hooves, and claws came out and I let out a grunt. My tail dangled to the shower floor. I thought of Noah. He was my rock in all this. I understood why the goddess gave me a small human mate, because he had too much sarcasm to fit into a supernatural body.
Right now, he would probably be calling her a bitch and rubbing my back, but I just couldn’t let him come with the vampires and goblins here… especially since I ate the last Goblin King, and I fucked Lord Victor’s son…. About half the court had some grudge against me, except Sky and Ash.
Good times. Getting ready to go made me more angry, as I could no longer fit the outfit I picked out for my mate to see. I growled in frustration, and had to settle for jogging pants and a tshirt. I felt a bit used. I was more than just a two foot appendage with legs… I sighed. I just needed my mate.
I got ready to leave, only to see that I was headed the same way with Ashital’s pups. We met up at the airport gate, and I chose not to talk to them. It wasn’t their fault, and I had calmed down, but I just needed to be alone. I put my headphones in and went to sleep on the flight.
I chose to watch their pups with Eric and Nancy, while Shelly and Connor picked up a 10 person van for us. He was quiet, shy even, and watched the pups with me. I think he could sense the anger I had, and chose not to say anything.
“Queen Diana is a bitch.” He said suddenly. I realized that their room was next to mine.
“You heard her?” I questioned.
“Every word.” He said quietly.
“We dated after her husband died, but it was nothing serious... Well to Her anyway. She only wanted me for my abilities…. I felt so out of place back then. My people fear me too much, and other supernaturals see me as an animal…then I met Noah. I rejected the feeling of completeness at first, but the moment he hugged me… that was it. I never wanted to let him go after that.” I said truthfully.
He didn’t say anything for a long time. “I was actually rejected by my first mate…but when I found Shelly… as scary as she was to me, I never wanted to be with anyone else.” He said truthfully. I hummed. I wondered did Noah ever fear me? Probably.
“I felt the same with Connor, until I realized how much of a goofball he is.” Giggled Nancy.
“Some of his sarcasm rubbed off on you.” Commented Eric. She rolled her eyes and it made me smile. They were young as calves to me, but their youth cheered me up. Shelly honked the horn, and I was ready to see my mate.
I drove while they were in the back. Nancy chose to sit next to me to her mate’s destress, but it was only a 3 hour drive, he would live. I hadn’t seen my mate in days. We listened to human radio, while the pups watched their tablet. They were restless though; I could smell it. I knew the moment they got out the car, our fingers were forfeit. I missed that. Mini was too timid to do it, but I could see it in her eyes sometimes that she wanted to. It’s their instinct.
I pulled right up to the front door, not bothering to park, and like I predicted the pups exploded out the car. I heard Kaiden, his mate, and my mate all running down the stairs along with a small little pup. I chuckled. The world seemed to tunnel vision…
“Daddy!” She screamed hugging my leg, she was so small she looked like she was hugging a tree. I picked her up and she hugged my neck. Only a second later, I felt the impact of a bigger, noisier pup, my mate.
“I missed you!” He screamed at the top of his little lungs, hugging me as hard as he could muster.
“I missed you too, pipsqueak.” I said, bending down and smelling his hair. My rage disappeared, and I thanked the Lady silently that she gave him to me. He was mine, and I was blessed.
“I’m making dinner tonight; I know you’re tired. And I’m driving!” He demanded like an Alpha.
“I see Kaiden has made you bold.” I say growling loudly, messing with him. The others looked somewhat concerned, as I don’t think they had ever heard me growl before. I smelled him become aroused… I nearly facepalmed, but I chose to pretend I didn’t smell that. “We’ll be back Saturday Kaiden if that’s okay.” I said over my shoulder. He gave me a thumbs up and with both his pups in his arms, and his third holding her mother’s hand, they went inside.
“No, I was always this way.” He growled back at me, which seemed to earn him some clout with Kaiden’s warriors. I jingled the keys, and went to put Mini in the car seat. I stole his lips when I sat in the driver’s side before he could protest, feeling the sparks I missed so much. I missed his taste. I missed my adopted calf. I gave up castle life when I joined the force, feeling called to serve in dreams… and I understood why now.
I started the ignition and drove holding my mate’s hand while he lovingly rubbed my knuckles with his thumb.
