Chapter 44

Eclipse

Shimmer slapped her, claws out making her yelp. “Kneel!” she snarled at the top of our lungs,
“As if a Real she wolf would kneel to the likes of You.” She lunged at us with claws out growling, clawing me on the arm, and shifted.
I snarled a yelp at the sting, readying myself to fight for my life. The greyish blonde she wolf spun around, leaping again at me with toothy snaps. I dodged while she chased me around the living room, and I couldn’t just shift because it still isn’t instant. Then I heard the coffee pot beep, as well as footsteps down the stairs. I had an idea and Shimmer took over so I could be faster, she was right behind me. I ran to the kitchen and threw the steaming pot of hot coffee on her, making her change back and scream. I was glad I’d learned how to give control…. Or else I’d be dead.
“I was minding my own business! And … and you just want to bully people?!” I screamed with a snarl. She didn’t respond, still yelping from being burned.
The commotion had drawn a crowd, and warriors in their pajamas arrested her while she writhed in pain. Blood dripped down my arm, and it stung, but I still felt bad. Though, I wasn’t going to let her kill me, because her intent was murder. Had she gotten her way I would be dead.
“My Luna, we shall take her to Alpha.” It rang like a bell in my ears. If he found out she clawed me, he is going to probably kill every person in this room.
“No, no put her somewhere until he comes back, there’s no telling what he’ll do if he comes this early since he intended to be gone a week…” I rubbed the back of my neck.
Shimmer was proud we defended our title. The Luna is never really supposed to, but I guess I had no choice. It was a good thing that coffee was automatically made in the morning too… or else no one would have gotten to me in time. I can’t be that kind of Luna, one that ruled through might…. I was never meant to be.
“oh. My. FUCKIN’ LADY MOON!” Screamed Beta, grabbing my arm and looking at the simi deep claw marks that ran from my wrist to my elbow. “Gods no … Kaiden is gonna kill me, he’s gonna kill everyone…. He’s gonna burn this place to the ground and call it a barbeque, Get her to the infirmary NOW!!” He roared with red eyes, pulling his hair in frustration, sounding every bit of an Alpha.

There was a bandage on my arm wrapped like I had been a newborn in a blanket. They gave me raw meat, and even prayed to the Moon that it would heal before Kaiden came back. There were 5 guards around me, All male, All over 6’5. They were All covered head to toe in tattoos that didn’t quite match each other, but together they held a similar theme. It looked tribal, and everyone’s patterns were different except for a wolf breathing fire on their back left shoulders.
Warriors who wore these, did so with pride. Only handpicked wolves by Alpha would get such an honor, as that was the pack’s coat of arms. And I could see why they had them…. The glares they gave any who came too close could sour milk, and I was in the kitchen… just trying to eat breakfast.
Shimmer thought it was great being treated so special, and I hated it. Why am I so weak?! I am just average if that, I’m not a warrior. I don’t have Alpha blood. I just wanted to be independent but then again, every time I seem to get alone something happens. There is no training that I could do that would give me an edge against a Warrior. It just wasn’t possible, but I could be smarter… I don’t think I’ll be alone without someone loyal around anytime soon.
I made sure I was at least within hearing range of the Warriors as they wouldn’t go into the bedroom with me, and I went upstairs to get book 4 of the Shamrock Homes series. I never finished it, and the detective was close to finding the killer. This one was a continuation of the third one, and Shamrock would have to solve this case soon or else the murderer could leave the country. He deduced that the killer was the one who offed the Count for the money in the first place, but they didn’t reveal who did it. 5 million dollars in gold bars was taken from the bank… and with That much money you could get away with murder.
I flopped down on the couch. The mess of me running around trying not to get killed had been cleaned, and there was that lady, with a sad smile on her face. “Lilly!” I waved, breaking her from her thoughts, and she greeted me.
“Good morning, I was just here watching the pups, would you like to join.” I nodded and I talked with her.
“I was going to read but why not?” I smiled; she gave a small bow.
“Also, I must beg forgiveness for the Crimson Side of the pack. Had I known any she wolves wished to challenge, I would have talked them out of it.” She said quietly. “What was done was illegal…. You are marked and mated by Alpha. You cannot fight for one who is Already bonded to another.” She said looking down, and for the slightest moment, she looked upset for me.
“No, it’s fine. Nobody knew. She claimed the packhouse as hers and attacked me….” I said trailing off.
“She was jealous…. Because traditionally the strongest female is chosen by Alpha, but he chose to wait for you.” She said looking down. She was submissive, showing me that I was Luna, as she didn’t want to have that kind of attention placed on herself. “Some she wolves are just like that…”
“…. Is it bad that I kind of knew that… Deep down my wolf knew instinctually, but I chose to play it all off like everything was fine...” I said looking down, kind of angry at myself.
“And for that I’m grateful for many things, but most of all your gentle nature and mercy… any other Luna would have immediately blamed me, punishing me or at the very least banishment…. And I think you did fine. I saw your wolf… you only go to the bottom of Beta’s chest. You could not best an Alpha she wolf. You were also alone. Had you done anything other than stall we would not be talking… Being Luna is more than just a title and grace, but also wit….” She smiled kindly.
“Granted I don’t know how to do anything yet as this title, but I imagine someone like her having power would have hurt the pack too.” I mumbled adding to her comment, and Lilly agreed.
“It is why the goddess gave you Alpha.” She said with a small nod. “Do not worry; Alpha doesn’t rush you because I can scent that you’re very young. You aren’t even 70 yet…. No one will expect that out of a first year Luna either. When I was Luna, I did what I could. It’s all you can do sometimes.” She said showing submission to me.
“You sound almost as if you blame yourself. None of this is your fault.” I said reassuringly.
“I know, but part of the pain is replaying that day. Wade got up looking so upset and determined…. If I’d known he had anything like that planned, I would have tried talking him out of it.” She said quietly.
“I’m sorry that you’re going through the pain of losing your mate, but I don’t think you could have changed his mind.” I said honestly.
She noticed my sadness and put a hand on mine. “Don’t get upset on my behalf. What my husband did would have gotten him killed by whoever’s mate he would have hurt. He was a good man, but he also did so many violent things that broke the law. That kind of thing catches up with you…” She smiled sadly again. Watching the pups wrestle made her giggle though. “I remember when Alpha Kaiden would sneak over here to play with my youngest son Derrick. They would fight just like this. Wade would always be so mad that our son lost, but what do you expect from the blood of the Charred One.” She said with a sigh, looking down.
“…The Charred One?” I Question.
“Alpha has the direct blood of the Wolf king, everyone knows that; your parents must have been from a different pack.” She said plainly. I shook my head in disbelief. She smiled again. “Wade was 997 sweetie, how else could Alpha have defeated my mate?” I sat there dumfounded. It explained a lot. Sort of. Maybe that’s why he’s so aggressive, but why weren’t Beta Connor and Gamma Branson? I guess since they weren’t Alpha, they couldn’t unleash their true rage.
So, he really was a monster, but he was my monster.
“My parents brought me here from SnowMoon…” I said seeing her eyes light up.
“I know of that pack… it was destroyed a few decades ago.” She said looking toward the door. “Above all… never trust humans, even those with pup. Never. I know in my heart that it was likely Luna Taylor that begged Alpha Snow to release the human that brought her pack to them.”
“I was always told that story growing up….” I said thinking of them. They’d shacked with a bunch of other fellow Omegas, but they felt it was best that I be in the Packhouse. As Luna, that was expected of me. It would also be the first place Alpha would look for me, and I could just about guess his state of mind when he would return.
“If I remember right, only a few Omegas survived.” She said looking as if she were thinking. “This was much more commonplace when I was your age. It’s how Wade’s twin got killed… he never found his mate.” She said looking toward the direction of the window. “But I will not speak of such times.”
She got up and left, since Beta’s disgruntled frown silently shooed away other wolves near me.
