Book 3: Chapter 84

A/n: I wrote…. Way more than I thought, so I’ll cut off all the chapters at max 1300, the new word limit.

/OK you have a point on that./ She said shaking her head.
“I didn’t know the Father of Trolls could cast magic.” I said with a small glare at my inner serpent. She grinned, making me ask questions….
“I am the eldest of all my master and mistress made…. My parents were made by Lia, but even now, she rents out their eggs…For it, I am the first creature Beast and Beauty developed…They liked my design enough to outright make King Gribble of Goblins from soil, then Rau of Beasts from fur… Then Sagrinal, the youngest from a perfect quartz crystal…. They made us, but without partners…. It got… lonely….. So you can imagine when *I took a deal from another goddess to get a partner instead of asking my goddess*, that Beauty was Upset… Gribble took the same deal, getting Maayah…. But Rau and Sagrinal saw what we’d done as treason…. They earned their wives…. We didn’t.”
“I take it since The Elf King and Unicorn Queen repeatedly saved the world, that nobody was surprised at the Moon Goddess’s blessing for them.” I asked as he sighed.
It must also be noted that Echidnah is likely *the* most important monster Lia ever made… Because of her initial neutrality… many monsters that were the First of their peoples were born from the Mother of Monsters. Creatures like:
Kelpie, trolls, mersharks, manta ray-men, kraken, griffons, Cercikin, most of the enchanted creatures on the realm king’s island like the elephant-pigs.
The list goes on and on. If it’s a particularly old monster, they may call Echidna mother.
“You have to consider that they *earned* that right, and I *took* it.” He said firmly. “Rau, the King of Beasts, was also blessed with a pseudo bond for his bravery. Me and King Gribble were offered… I…. I shouldn’t say this next part.” He mumbled.
“What?”
“It’s something your texts will never say, because we never recorded it…”
“I will not repeat it.”
“I know…. But I can tell all the Lords of Hell, the Horned One included is watching you.” He pointed to a small red orb…. Why didn’t I notice it…. I guess I wasn’t meant to.
“….But that you’ve blurted it…. I doubt they’ll let any lore concerning their mother slide right now.” I said calmly….
“You’re right.” He looked at the orb. “She gave us that deal so we could be firmly on the Light side…. Originally, Rau and Sagrinal were already on the Light Court’s side…. She didn’t want us helping her husband, because if we did, with Goblin Atlantis tech, and troll regeneration to protect them… the humans wouldn’t have stood a chance.”
…. Wow…
But he was right… Trolls and goblins working with we dark witches would have changed *everything*. If not for Atlantis getting destroyed…  *all* humans might be in pens…. Goblins had flying cars and laser guns…
And it got me thinking… There are SO many Kings who SHOULD have sided with the Realm King, yet they defied him and his father…
And the Goddess was responsible for it.
“But why would she do that?” I asked, watching the sheep with him.
“Did anyone stop to think that maybe a goddess who cries over a smashed bug didn’t want trillions of people to die over thousands of years?” he growled. “Did anyone think that a goddess so sweet… one afraid of the dark would *want* eternal darkness? Did anyone ever think that *maybe* just maybe, that instead of make monsters *with* her mate, that she made creatures to soothe this world like, soul menders, meant that she didn’t want war?”
I let him continue…. Because I never thought of that…. She loves Urth and the people on it…. The war, although I know she appreciates her freedom, spilled **A Lot** of mortal blood….
“I’m 34 feet tall, and it took around 400 priests to kill me. Lop off an arm; it grows back. Same with legs, even cutting me in half. Lop off my head; I can reattach it. What human, priest or not can handle that?” He asked this honestly, wanting me to think about it. “I killed 150 of their men that day. Death told me himself because he was impressed….. Imagine me on the Night Court side. Imagine if there weren’t enough people to keep my head separate from my body long enough for me to die in the first place. Imagine if I stomped their houses and ate their kin on mass, which I *can*. She gave me this deal… so that I wasn’t really part of the war.”
/Wasn’t that history lesson more fun?/ She beamed. /Also *you’re welcome.* Even I learned something./
/Oh stuff it./ I said playfully.
She giggled, doing a little spin in my mind.
“The Lord of Light tormented her… Her own father…. And now… now she was imprisoned by her own mate.” I said quietly.
“Aye, it’s why I aim to help.” He said firmly. “Plus… the Lady is the only reason why the war was ended. I half imagine without her at his side, his wrath will reappear…”
How powerless she must have felt, because she’s only the Moon… Our Moon… But I also know the master well enough that he didn’t want to hurt his mate… but his rash action to keep her safe hurt her feelings.
I must help Lord Kaizen… This must be set right.
“He didn’t want the Light to imprison her again. I could bet money the moment he got too close, or yelled too loudly, that the Horned One didn’t even think, he just protected her.” I said as he nodded in agreement.
“It does not dampen her plight though.” Said Grihk. “That argument between the lords made the sky half stars and half day…. But the moon disappeared. It hasn’t come out since.” He said firmly.
I won’t lie… I was silent a moment.
….I didn’t know she actively interfered with the War….
But now that I thought about it… like King Jerold… Even he didn’t know he had a mindless son … I bet she got the forest spirits to watch him until Lord Kaizen gave him his blood…
I bet she made the mate bond for Turrus, the formally missing Great Bull. He was meant to be the Lord of the Layer of Aggression… But fell in love with Glycasia,… a *mortal*…
Not just any mortal either… she was an Arch Priestess of the Light…. The only person stronger than her back then would have been Rodrick… and he wasn’t born yet… another well kept secret.
When Xaxas killed this world… Arviel Cheated, protecting his favorites on a single island. I assume the Horned One did as well….
But I know that from scrolls as old as Gulteer…. Who either doesn’t know, or won’t say his age.
Then there’s what happened with the wolves… King Ashital fought on the Light side… Not the Night…
