Book 3: Chapter 41

Tiffany
“Let me go!” I yelled to my captors, but they’d managed to find enough rope and makeshift cloth to bind my hands, legs, and now mouth.
“Don’t let it speak.” Said their leader. He wasn’t some old fart with white hair…. That guy gave the reigns to someone else… Their leader looked almost as young as I did… meaning he was probably in his early 20’s… My mate, who flew in the distance would likely know all their names… He traded with them… We paid them good money….
He was distinctive enough, having only one hazel eye, and an eyepatch. His hair was dyed blue, but the roots were dark brown. You could tell by how far back he dyed it, that he wanted it known he was human.
Zayde roared, landing. He shook the ground with his heavy stomps, and any who ran away got to know what it felt like…. A little bit of me enjoyed seeing him lose his temper…
He shifted, not caring he was naked, or that they had weapons.
“Release my mate Sebastian Bogdan, and you will die swiftly.” He said as he gave a hand signal, and the witches got into formation.
“We’ll kill the girl.” Warned Sebastian.
Zayde began to walk toward us, and the torch made him stop. He looked so upset… and so worried… I could feel the heat of that fire… I did this. Had I just let them enact their plan, they’d be dead…. But then the Church would have reason to attack back…
“If you harm her, I will destroy every single mortal. Every Single One. Even your babes. Release her.” He hissed.
I wanted to tell him not to do that, but I hoped he saw me shake my head ‘no.
I KNOIW this was my fault… I used magic I wasn’t adept enough to cast, yet alone prep… which I didn’t, but the townsfolk as bigoted as some were, they aren’t here… just these guys… Punish *them*. Hurt those who hurt us… that much overkill would bring war, but maybe that’s what whoever let them in wanted…
And punish who let them in….
I could sense it. The barrier is still up, but damaged. How did they get permission?
“Give me your pelt and I’ll think about it.” Said the man.
Without hesitation, he used a claw to flay his right peck. “Now give her over.” He tossed it to Sebastian. Zayde’s reward was a pistol being pointed at him. Those were a little rare, since laws in this country limited access to them.
He got shot in the chest.
“Idiot.” Said Sebastian, but Zayde fished out the bullet and flicked it in Sebastian’s liver.
He screamed, not expecting to be shot with his own bullet, and that’s all my mate needed to sprout wings and grab the torch.
“Who’s the idiot now dumbass? The heart’s on the left side!” Roared my mate.
Sebastian purposefully dropped it... I could only watch it fall, and go out, bonking me on the head.
“You’re Welcome!” shouted Echidnah. With Typhen’s magic he nearly drowned me with water, but I was grateful. I was so grateful for their quick thinking. Had it touched me, I’d be on fire…
I cried. If my mouth wasn’t bound, I’d thank them.
“Now who’s the idiot. I want them alive.” Said Zayde. He had him by the throat, and healed his wound. He tossed him, and Aptherraam caught him. I was picked up, and held close. He slashed the binds off me… In the chaos I cried….. I cried so hard…. I saw flashes… I felt the flames…..
[Look at my mistress’s tears…. May I eat him? Becoming shit is an honor for one as low as you.] My demon sneered. He was glowing… the marks on his body that told others of his binding to me were red… not purple…. Darker than I’d seen on mom’s demon.
“You can break his legs.” Siad Zayde. “No internal bleeding. I want him *alive*, as many as my beasts can catch. Echidnah, Typhen, have your fill of any who try to leave. Just don’t kill Sebastian…. .”
He ran to me while the men, even those with weapons realized this fight was probably a few hundred to one…. I wasn’t a hostage anymore…. Nothing stopped everyone now. I don’t know how many came, but none were left.
“He will suffer for every bruise on your body…” Zayde rubbed his chin on the top of my head. “I’m so sorry…. I knew this was a trap, yet I went in good faith hoping I was wrong.” He said as a whisper. “I can’t lose you. All this power means NOTHING, absolutely nothing without you….”
“If you didn’t go, they would make war…. When you did, you see they do anyway… This is not your fault my love.” I said putting my hand on the flayed wound… it was already healing… it didn’t even bleed.
“I want the barrier re-adjusted! No witch is to leave. Andrei!” He shouted for his brother.
“I’m here.” He said waving on his broom. “There are witches trying to use portal magic. I deactivated them already.”
“Do you know where?” asked Zayde.
“No, but I sent Raizaa after them. If my hound cannot sniff them, they are more powerful than I.” Andrei said this angrily.
Anger was all I could feel from our bond, then shame… and hurt… he blamed himself too.
“You can put me down, I’m not hurt.”
He growled at me. “No.”
“I’m fine.”
“I can’t… I physically can’t fight this Theo deary… I can’t lose you.” He said looking away from me. He closed his eyes, and this growl now was a whine. “I can’t…. All I saw was the day I wasn’t here for you fast enough… I know you did too. I’m not a good husband….”
“Don’t say that.” I said hugging his neck. “Then if you can’t put me down…. Take me downstairs. I want to see what you do to them…. They broke the law. You have my word in blood that I will not stop you.”
“Even if I flay them?” He countered with a raised brow.
“Make it a declaration of your rage. Write on it and send it to Father Parez and his priests.” I said looking at him in the eyes…. I felt violated from so many hands on me like that…. Yanking then pinning me down… ready to burn me…
I saw his other brothers in V formation…. They were looking for whoever let the humans in. They all looked disheveled and interrupted from whatever work they were doing, and when Alteer gets here, all hell’s going to break loose.
-----Zayde-----
My heart still beat like a drum. The ritual room responded to my bloodlust, beating with it a bright red….
It felt like A War Drum….I wanted More than a few captured, useless humans who won’t know anything. I wanted his blood. Sebastian was from the village, but the village being stirred like a wasps’ nest must have grown some hair on his balls.
I remember him as a sniveling coward, working for the local paper as a delivery boy and truck driver…. But now… now he looked like a proper, battle scarred man.
He delivered the meat for the village from the farms… and now he was broken legged on a cell floor. I did have meat hooks… would it be too ironic to hang him up by one, and mail his skin to the butcher?
I carried Tiffany… I still was unable to release her until I saw how much pain that little shit Sebastian was in. I’d curse him, but I wanted him to last…. I finally placed my mate in a chair, and her demon stood at her right, while Tinzaa at her left.
I didn’t need protection.
“You’ve come down here so soon… I assume nobody else escaped.” He coughed with a smile. It made my blood boil.
I punched him in the face as soon as I was in there. “You come to my home and touch my wife. The only reason you breathe is information.”
“And you won’t have it.” He spat on my bare foot.
I closed my eyes…. I fought the beast…. I opened my eyes and grabbed him by the hair. I grabbed one of his teeth and pulled it out. He screamed for it. I dropped him to the ground.”
“Aptheraam, how many teeth do mortals have?” He asked Aptherraam. He shifted to answer.
“Um… I have 48…. So… 28?” He asked.
“Close. He’s got his wisdom teeth… those are going to be Very fun. 32. Go share a mortal with your mate.” I said casually.
Tiffany never liked my methods…. But she understood them. She watched them shift, drag, and eat Chrystopher Robinz alive. It was probably wrong for me to do that, but they all quieted down… all their steam was gone… All their morale as well.
“Where are your comments now. Who let you in?” I demanded. “Freedom to the-”
“They said their name was Jekel.” Said Patrick, the local mill worker. I only vaguely knew him since we didn’t need much lumber.
I texted Andrei. He’d told me that all the Jekels were with him or mu brother Grant’s wife, their teacher when the alarms went off… It would make sense that someone might use that name to further besmirch them, seeing as how their scandal still rang around the castle like a tolled bell….
“So, all of you are useless then.” I said with pursed lips. Chrys was still alive as they ate him. They cauterized his wounds to keep him fresh. The screams attracted all, from magical beast, to familiars, and lastly my witches who used beast magic…
Their gums itched for a taste, and tonight they would feast on all but Sebastian…. This one was Mine.
“HE- he- was tall! boney! Um, he hissed when he talked!” Yelled Patrick.
“Did you see his eyes?’ I asked.
He passed out. His heart stopped…. That wasn’t magic.
“What the fuck. Check him for poison.” I commanded no one in general.
Who would do this? I receive something none of my generation has…. So it could ANY cousin… any brother….. Even an uncle who IS a coven lord was jealous and gave me trouble.
Then there’s the blessings of our demons… the fact that they are both coven leader quality…. Given to ‘kids’. It wasn’t like I didn’t work hard to regain my stature…
I almost lost her for jealousy, but now I had a decision to make. I could torture him still, but now there is no point… Torture for Torture’s Sake pisses off the master… It is my right, but I know Tiffany won’t like it.
No… it’s More than that. She just got back into safety, seeing such things might bring up her ordeal. That took the wind out my sails.
“Crunch harder Aptherraam. You can have one more for being such a good boy today.” She said with a fake smile. “I know you debate, but I also know you. You Can’t settle your mind unless you do some grizzly, grand thing. Do just Sebastian.”
“Tiffany-” She cut me off.
“He thought it was funny he ripped my shirt. It was so funny to douse the One Of The ONLY witch here who screamed for peace. Let him go to hell knowing a taste of what’s to come. You’re dying in a ritual room… I think it fair all this blood fills the carved lines of the floor. Let them all be an offering…. I want to make a feast for the master.” She said standing.
