Book 3: Chapter 91
Zayde
The snap of fingers made me gasp awake, but the room was empty.
The first person I looked for was my wife. Tiffany would know what happened. Her scent was fresh, but I was *ripe*… ugh.
After a much needed shower, and the sheets tossed down the incinerator shoot, I put on blue jeans and a white shirt. I can’t fit my shoes, because my claws poked through them. Gods damn it.
Barefoot, but dressed and halfway decent, I saw my wife with her mother….. and a Lot of baby supplies.
I could not scent any eggs… I’m glad during times like this that I *don’t* have an inner beast. I don’t know if I could handle screaming in my head about whelps…. They would be nice…. But it’s something I want to ask her about first….
We rule this den, so they won’t have lack of power or prestige…. But we just re-met. Maybe she wants more alone time together?
“ZAYDIE!” She beamed.
“My love!” I shouted back. She ran, jumping into my arms. I spun her around before we shared a small kiss.
“We hibernated almost a year.” She said as I put her down.
Little Goot had a cut of venison and black coffee for me. I was handed a briefing on what I missed, and I read it after my tiny mate embraced me. Damn a lot happened… almost like a time skip….
“You’re up!” She beamed.
“Did you sleep well?” I asked, parting some of the disheveled hair out of her face.
“I did!” she smiled.
“I formally thank you, my lord.” I bowed formally. “If ever you have need of my fire, might, or magic, you have us at your disposal.”
“Well said.” Chuckled Lord Bryson. “I’ll think about it now that you’ve grown some pup.”
“I knew my clothes were a little tight.” Said Tiffany excitedly, but she immediately grimaced when she tugged her old pajamas. “Oh gods, and I need a shower!”
I can’t lie… she’s my mate. To me, she always smells nice. “Go ahead dear.” I smiled at her scamper.
“Is there anything I need to do now that I’m up?” I asked.
“Not really. Micael handled any business in your stead.” She said with a smile. “He’s even out now, patrolling the territory.”
“When he gets back, tell him to meet me in my office.” I said with a yawn.
“You seem like you need time.” Said Lord Bryson.
“I do, but master we are the only coven on this continent. Micael does well as a bluff… but should anyone get an idea, he doesn’t really have the combat experience I do Just Yet.” I said honestly. I knew he took charge, but he was my apprentice. There are many spells he has yet to learn.
“That’s fair. Me and Izzy should be off ourselves. I don’t know what time it is back home, but I’ve been gone a bit too long for my taste myself.” He with a soft smile.
We gave our goodbyes, but Heidi thought to stay back. “I want to talk to you in your office.”
“Of course, What’d you wish to speak of?” I asked as we rode the magical elevator. I don’t know if she could outright hear my mate’s rendition of Hozieyer’s Moonlight…. But I hid my smile as best as I could.
“I got a lot of baby stuff because I was SURE she was with pup.” She said firmly.
“But she’s not my lady.” I said to reassure her.
“That’s fine, but what are your plans on the future?” she asked. “With so many births, and hell doubling, I’m sure you might feel the need to pup yourselves.”
“I believe we’re having a son.” I wondered should I leave out the Haru deal or not… “Do you dream of our children or anything?”
“No, but so many in the royal family had children, and hell’s army doubled. In retaliation, Haven’s army has also doubled, and the Earth Goddess will one day birth the opposite of Xaxas’s son…” she pointed out.
I closed my eyes. The War is Over. There is no more war, but they are never going to truly ever be ‘friends’ either.
They plot in case someone breaks their treaty, but even then… I am not important enough to ship off world. Urth is Sanctuary… Truly… no battles are allowed here.
So there is no rush for me and my wife to have children.
“With my old and new knowledge I cannot see past two decades.” I said trying harder. “About the most that happens is that I stub my toe, and …. Kaiden’s boat he naps in sinks because teenagers steal it.”
“Oh Gods Damn It That Blasted Boat!” she complained. “After Tyson took over, he’s gotten like THREE sunburns because he keeps falling asleep on it!”
I laughed. “Sounds like you’ve had to send a salve or two.”
“More like personally visit twice.” She rolled her eyes. “But here, let me help.”
We looked, but saw nothing of note. That is a good thing… sometimes. We could be blocked from seeing anything.
\----Tiffany----
I could feel my mom and husband try to look for hints of our child…. And I began to worry.
What if we can’t see because our fate is to be taken from this world? That would be bad, since we have a deal that has not been paid yet….
What if we’re meant to do another trial? Maybe our pup could be hurt… or sick…?
Theo still snored, but my worries were waking her… I hated that.
Also that can’t be right either…. We’ve already proven ourselves and earned favor.
I turned off the shower, and when I came in, they both looked like they’d run marathons. “I think we should leave fortune reading alone.”
“I think you’re right.” Said Zayde. “Warnings are supposed to pop up without a struggle.”
I couldn’t shake that I was taken somewhere while I was hibernating…. But I couldn’t think straight. I couldn’t really remember details of that trial, nor the exact order of events that lead to me intervening in the first place.
“Also, I might add, that we’ve been away a while.” I said summoning a map of the area. “The maintenance on the barrier needs tending, along with a search for Babas.”
“Hellinia did say that they crave living *near* large covens, but there aren’t any humans for miles.” Said mom.
“Yeah, but the ability to feed off the magic in the land or air like a leech is possible too. They’ll also be beast casters.”
“Then that’s my job.” Said Zayde. \[All beast casters, ready your claws and your magic for a hag hunt!\] he snarled.
\[The Lord is Awake, and has given his command!\] Boomed Micael like a soldier…
\[And We Obey!\] They shouted.
“Micael in the early part of it asked what he could do, and Bryson gave him a bit of Beta training.” Said mom.
“He didn’t have to do that… I didn’t thank him enough.” Said Zayde.
\[Get in formation!\] Shouted Micael.
We looked at each other.
Time to be Coven leaders.
/I missed this./ Yawned Theo. /Sleep was cool and all, but I felt like I was in danger the whole time./
/Why?/
/Because we’re forced to be asleep and I didn’t know *where* … I hated that./
