Book 2 Chapter 34
John
The hell I would. I didn’t trust that man. I could have that very meeting standing next to the King, the Pope, and the Pale Lady, and I still wouldn’t go. For now, I gave him a nod only for respect and left.
I didn’t know where I was going, but away from him was nice. He seemed as if he were a jackass, but a powerful one. He held the third highest position of our people, and with that comes connections. I wasn’t stupid, nor was I impulsive. If I wanted justice, I would have to do it in a way that was with hard irrefutable evidence. I would Not go anywhere as far as I could throw him, but maybe if I work out a plan, I could make him slip in the distant future when I figured out how politics worked here.
“Why did I say anything.” She grumbled to herself, and we found a door that led down a long hall. ‘High Council of Luna Matrons’ on a plaque above the long corridor. This was where they held their judgments, created laws, and helped other Lunas from all over the globe.
But I had to console my mate. “Heidi you spoke up for the weak as best as you could, and never be ashamed of that.” I told her, holding her gently, but she wasn’t upset like I thought she was, she smelled frustrated. She was a small she wolf talking to an ancient. Well we both were surrounded by them.
The Queen’s scent filled the hall, along with the smell of the hot tea, and my mother. I heard a heated discussion, along with a few growls until I got close.
“Ah, Everyone, you all know of her highness’s granddaughter; that’s my new grandson, John.” She beamed, crushing me, then letting me go.
“Mother I’m glad you’re safe.” I told her, hugging her gently, and she snarled softly.
“He could not best me… though I could not kill him….” She said as if she were ashamed. I kissed her on the top of the head.
“No mother should ever be forced to kill her son… this is my job to put him down. I have no attachment with him.” I hugged her gently, giving her the right she was denied my entire life. I did not see my blood as family, but I would not burden them with that knowledge. It was her dream to hold me, to have me… who was I to deny that? She almost died for me… she didn’t have to do that…
“HE’S ADORABLE!” Screamed one of the other Luna’s joining in, but getting growled at by the Queen. She felt I was being disrespected, because I had been touched without permission, but she was right. I honestly didn’t like it, neither did my mate. She didn’t look upset, but I could feel it in my bond.
“Show my grandson some respect. But yes…. He is very adorable.” She said sternly, pinching my cheek. I thought I was going to die; she was much too strong to be doing that. I thought I was going to get my face ripped off. I was surrounded by grandmas who wanted to baby me…. Lady no.
“And look at you in your little dress.” Squealed another woman, who hugged Heidi off the ground. “Isn’t she adorable! She’s as cute as the Fifth Seat’s mate.” They beamed.
“… I’m right here.” Complained the human woman, who smelled as old as us. Interesting. We weren’t the only young wolves here. There was no way a human would be allowed in here; I could only assume she was an Omega.
“Yes sweety.” She said, and it was apparent that she had been adopted by the Matrons as more of a grandpup than a member, but that wasn’t a bad thing…. It meant she would probably be protected.
“Lunas.” Said the Queen sternly, breaking it up, but she held a small smile. “As the Heir to the Second Seat, I would like for you to go to the Heir’s Quarters before you attend with your father, it is the next wing of the castle. But I would also like to say this warning: Touch my children and you will have more to fear than what my mate will do. He shows mercy with swift deaths; I do not.”
“My Queen…. Honestly… I know this will make you angry, but I must say it.” Said one of the Lunas with almost white hair. The queen narrowed her eyes, but let her talk. “He is not in danger from us… We gain nothing from his death …. It is the Alphas who will try. For without an heir… all the others will move up one seat, gaining more power.” She said holding her head down, but the Queen remained stone faced. She linked someone, and soon a guard the size of Alpha Kaiden bent down to come in.
“My Queen.” He said respectfully, but honestly, I was intimidated by this guy. He was scarred with many deep jagged lines and the tattoo set of the warrior…. He had all of them. Who the fuck collects them all? How did he? This isn’t the boy scouts! He had his hair in a thick dreaded mohawk that went to his knees, and had a nose ring in his nostrils like a bull. It was so that when he shifted, it would with him. He also had large ear gauges, which would shift with his wolf as well. His eyes were dark brown, but I could see dark red speckles in them… wow. A red eyed wolf who wasn’t an alpha.
“Warrior Jabari, please escort my grandson to the Heir’s Quarters, Oh, and stay there with him.” She said sweetly, and he smiled.
“It would be an honor.” He said with a bow.
I followed him, wondering should I ask him anything No! Screamed my wolf, who hadn’t said anything until now…. fuck it. “How many Wheaties did you eat growing up?” I joked, and he smiled.
“I remember those, very funny cub. I see why her majesty likes you.” He responded casually. “I grew up in what’s now known as Kenya, I’m a hyena shifter.” He said with a toothy smile.
“Oh, that’s cool… is that why your fangs are silver?” I asked and he shook his head.
“Iron. And No, I was born like that.” He said with a small smile. “I can tell by your ‘stoic silence’ that you’re ‘freaking out’ Like my grandkids. Give it time, you’ll crush the skulls of your enemies in no time.” He chuckled and I shook my head no, but he wasn’t wrong….
“Got any tips?” I asked and he scowled like he was thinking hard.
“Don’t anger your female. Don’t piss near mulberry bushes, and don’t eat the yellow snow, it’s not ‘lemon flavor’.” He said with a smug smile, opening the door for me.
“But Why would I do Any of that?” I asked him and he shrugged his shoulders.
“It’s a trend on Tick Tak.” He mentioned.
“Which one of those things?!” I asked and he shook his head. He was messing with me…. Lady damnit. I walked inside and I soon saw a sea of sneers.
“Welcome honored second heir.” Said I assume was the leader of the group. This room looked different from the Lunas, as it was more... manly? There was a fireplace with bookshelves and a bear skin rug on the floor. I assume there was a reason for that, but I didn’t ask. I doubt any of them would do anything other than smell their own farts in here.
“It’s a pleasure.” I said as nicely as I could. I would not dishonor my line by making war before I got to know anyone.
“Let us begin then now that everyone that’s coming is here.” He said with a small frown.
This room was absolutely a mancave, though there was no entertainment here. This room looked as if it were designed for business, yet it was still very elegant. The floor was black marble, as it ran throughout the castle, and the table we walked to was a wonderful dark wood, complete with a black marble and brass top. I sat in the biggest chair, and Warrior Jabari sat by the fire, and pulled out his phone.
“I’m High Heir, Grisham, I am the Third Seat’s heir…. But seeing as you are here… I must step down off this mantle.” He said with gritted teeth, and I rolled my eyes.
“If you really want it so bad, by all means keep it.” I told him, but there were disapproving murmurs.
“Coward.” Said a wolf. I snarled, getting all their attention, and making some of them submit.
“I am no coward. I hold my head with honor. I thought I could let him have his power trip, but if I would lose honor, then I shall claim it.” I snarled, and my eyes flashed with my wolf. I wasn’t stronger than the Breathless One, but he wasn’t here. The other ancient line didn’t have any pups yet, so it made me the strongest in the room. Also, I think Alpha Kaiden if he held a place here would lose his shit. Everyone at the table I could take…. I could smell it.
