Book 2: Chapter 83
Heidi
I yawned. I looked at the alarm clock next to the bed. It was 11:45 in the morning… and I’d been asleep two days. I’d been asleep soundly in my mate’s arms… and when I awoke, he did too. He smelled a little like silver this morning, but I had to remember he wears the gauntlets….
“Morning beautiful.” He said kissing me softly on the lips. I returned it, wrapping my arms around his neck. He felt stronger, and his scent also reflected that…. It made me feel like we were home.
“Morning…” I mumbled blushing. He rested my head on his chest and we laid there until my rat got up, groomed his whiskers and shifted with a large yawn.
“She’s Awake!” Shouted Rahraam. “Good morning, Mistress. I have some food prepared for you.” He said going into a minifridge, handing me a cold soda and a ham sandwich he’d made likely this morning. The lettuce on it was still crisp.
“She’s awake?!” The witches downstairs yelled joyously, while others whooshed up the stairs with magic. I took big bites out of my food, because they sounded like bees.
“We need to hurry and have them on their way, but we have to show you all your gifts!” Said Grenadinia. I wondered why she said that, but we did need to go. John likely had business that I was holding up.
“We can pack after I get the last bite of my breakfast.” I complained, but I was done. All that was left was to down my canned drink. This one was a weird almost beer flavor without alcohol made from bread.
“I already packed Heidi. Also we do have to leave; I must refuse a party again Hellinia on the grounds that my King summoned me, and grows impatient by the minute.” He was firm about it, but he still held a small smile. They’d all came up at the same time with books and wands in their hands with bows on them. I wasn’t awake when they’d asked him about festivities, but they offered no resistance once they saw how he was so convicted.
“Of course Alpha John, but first a word and a few parting gifts if you may.” She smiled, motioning us to follow her downstairs.
“Wow…,” Said John. She had bags, wands, books, herbs, and 2 dragon scales sitting on the new glass table. “Frag’naw also thanks you for your troubles.” She said elbowing him, and he bowed his head ever so slightly. It was a royal nod, and we responded by bowing to the waist, as is royal custom.
“He said that he knows you two are very young, and it came to his attention that you also work within a royal court. He said use this fair payment to grow your power.” Said Rahrraam, translating for the dragon.
“None of this will fit in the car.” I joked, and there were giggles.
“We know. That’s why this bag here is a bag of void storage… I must admit it’s a tad bigger than the original one I promised to you… but this one has a more elegant study… I figure since I won’t use this one either I may as well help you on your magical journey. This bag is a 12 by 12 meter room. Go ahead. The magic word is Grizle-fizz, and here’s the key.” She tossed me a key, which looked like it went to a door…. “Oh and don’t put one bag inside the other if you get another one, they’ll explode.” She said simply.
“I’ll be sure to remember that.” I said mumbling the magic word, and the bag when I opened it, there was a door at the bottom. The old leather satchel was akin to a doorway on the ground… it formed concrete stairs inside itself that led to a wooden door for the brass key in my hand. I walked downstairs to see that it was an actual study. Me and my familiar went down together and unlocked the door. There were false windows and inside the bag was a small realm. The walls held magical items already inside while their familiars stacked the gifts they gave me inside… the books in here were old as well, and held dark magic subjects… the secrets of the Horned One, and experimental theories were in here… but before I could ask why she doted on me like this, I felt a presence outside. One that spoke of Old blooded witches.
“John say nothing, it is not your place…. Shit.” Shouted Rahrraam running up the stairs, nearly dragging me with him.
I went back up to see that a tall, rather thin man that held slightly spiraled goat horns got out of a 1950’s style solid black Rolls Royce. A female demon opened the car for him, while a male adjusted his tie and opened the door for I assumed his wife. She looked exactly like Lady Tiffany’s twin…. though the look she gave me was cold…. I’d swear they were vampires they were so pale and held their heads so high…. But I would be wrong. I’d only heard the man’s name once, but my wolf remembered it.
Gulteer, the First Witch. He radiated blackness that sucked all the daylight to nothing around him passively, and he glided his way to us without sound. His face was as if he were in his 70’s but his hair was ink black… I couldn’t make out his eyes though, which was strange. “You anger me little one.” He sneered at Hellinia.
“Grandfather forgive my waiting. I didn’t want to bother you.” She said quietly. He scoffed.
“I’m old, not stupid. Is this the halfling you tried to hide?” he looked at me like I was dirt, using his power to yank me from my bow to levitate to him. “She does hold a soul of my daughter’s…. but she is in the flesh of Less. I do not know this Weak line… Is This what my only daughter attempted… she gave away the Master’s secrets… I have been gone Too long.”
“She’s much too thin.” Said his wife.
“Yes Titafina she is. Abused to. Are the wicked punished?” He looked me in the eyes, and I saw the white of his eyes were black, but his irises glowed a vivid green. My horns were summoned on their own, as he’d grabbed at the air. “More talented than half my sons… Theyolina Yoltier.” He said letting it go. It didn’t hurt… but it was surprising to see him know so much without even thinking anything. He had to have been clairvoyant.
“I was adopted by the wol-” His irises flashed yellow.
“That is not what I asked small one. Are they punished for the crime of hurting what belongs to Me?” His eyes were orange when they glanced John’s way. “Outsiders too… Hellinia you said nothing of Saiatok’s first son, and the Second’s boy of the Wolf King.” He said with his eyes red.
“I didn’t think it was appropriate to annoy you.” She said stiffly, and he tisked, putting me down a little roughly, but I stood on my two feet. Everyone was silent. He behaved as if he were a King himself.
“For the sake of peace, I’ll assume Emerald Coven is Dead. Ron’s son is purehearted. I’m not worried about him, but You, you little pervert. If he’s anything like his father when he was his age, he’ll fornicate with anything that has a heartbeat.” He pointed at Frag’Naw. He shook his finger at him, speaking his native language, and the dragon showed real fear in his eyes.
“Your blood pressure dear.” Said His wife, Titafina, and his eyes went in reverse order, back to green, then blue.
“I am Gulteer, the First Witch, The Darkened One. I am made from the very dust of Tartaron, and the blood of my maker.” he said like a King would…. “My daughter invited you to her humble home, and instead of greeting my only daughter, I see only remains.” He said a little sadly. “Though I cannot be mad at any of you… She suffered her fate because of her own actions… she broke the law. She broke it bad enough that I can feel that she was ripped from this world, taken straight to hell for punishment…. flesh and all”
The glare he gave us could cut steel, though it was his wife who spoke next. “We have come because we felt her passing… and waited on messages from our own grandchildren, and you all avoid us.” She snarled, and it sounded like a dragon’s…
“And I see you.” he glared at me. “You look exactly like her except the hair. If you had her raven locks, I would’ve assumed you were from an affair… Why did you all not tell me of her to add to my records? Flesh or not, her soul Must be accounted for.” He crossed his arms, demanding someone say something, and I would defend her.
“She didn’t because you’re scaring her.” I said quietly. I didn’t know where this courage was coming from, but I would run with it. “Even our demons kneel… and they didn’t want to tell you until likely after we went home so you wouldn’t come out here.” I said quietly.
“I still would have come small one, and if you were not here, I would punish.” He boomed, walking past all of us inside. “Stop standing there and come.” He commanded, and everyone followed him. “I smell a Babba. A dead one. Good.” He mumbled gliding up the stairs. His black claws extended as he grabbed the banister. They were at least 3 inches long, and he reminded me of a vampire again.
No one said anything, worried for his decisions. As head of the family, I think Hellinia and Lady Tiffany overstepped by accepting me…. and my heart sank a little. I knew deep down it was too good to be true that I belonged somewhere.
“Now let me see….” He said using magic to grab a book from the wall that held family records. “Little one do you know why I’m here?” He asked turning to me. His eyes were a deep crimson, and his irises cast a red light in the room. He looked very intimidating to say the least, but I would accept his ruling with honor…. If I was rejected as a witch, the wolves still wanted me.
“To remove me from your book… to undo my secret name… to banish me from here…. It is the way of old bloodlined witches…” I said quietly, but I stood tall. I knew this was going to happen….
It was expected in witch culture to remove anything considered tarnishing to their family names. At least, when I grew up in Emerald, I saw that allot. No one was safe if you stepped out of line.
“No.” he said with red eyes. “It is the way of witches who Want to be of the old blood, frittering around, making intricate books filled with false titles and pompous circumstance. I would not waste my time.” He growled.
“Master of my father forgive my mistress… she was raised to believe such lies.” He said kneeling as low as he could, and I was proud of my familiar. I could tell he too feared this man.
“Lick out your tongue Rahraam, it was I who named you.” He commanded, and my familiar showed him his tongue. There was a peacock on it. “I am the one who puts them there. I knew Theophania had another child, but when he was not summoned on time. It was then I wondered…. What became of that child? If you’d have died, Rahrraam would have been placed with Me, to live his days until you were reborn…. But instead, he was summoned, but none of my children gave flesh.” He said looking me in the eyes.
“I don’t understand.” I said honestly, but he seemed impatient.
“I’m here to place my seal across your name little one…. did you not notice the black stamp by everyone’s name but yours?” He said with yellow eyes. A wooden stamper appeared from nowhere and he cut the palm of his hand with a claw, stamping the page in black blood. “But know this, you are My blood. You are a Dark witch, one of the Horned One’s Oldest and Purest Line. We Must side with the Lord of Night, that includes you boy.” He pointed at John. “If the war restarts, you are either going to fight your mate… or join her.”
“Then I will die with Heidi.” He said without hesitation. I think that was the first time I’d seen the old man smile.
“Then welcome to the family. We’re good people, we just have peculiar ways.” He said like he was telling a joke, and John cracked a small smile.
“Dear you must go with them to their home.” Said his wife, and he patted her head.
“That goes without saying. It has been a long time since I’ve seen the new country… and I can read the soul of the boy. Their lives are in danger, and I would not waste my blood, coming here, and driving in the snow to attend funerals.” He said with yellow eyes.
