Book 2 Chapter 28

Heidi
I blinked, trying to shake off that thought, and find where we were. I didn’t recognize anywhere where we were headed, though I trusted my mate. We were on the road for hours, but I didn’t know how long. We were headed west, crossing the state line into Ohiya. I had had only rode in the car once to live with my grandparents, but the problem was, that I didn’t know the way… I did know we were going the wrong way though. We had figured if we kept going, we could find a pack, get our identification printed, buy some tickets, and dump the car…
We were lost, but it would be ok…. At least I hoped. Luna had taken my phone, and broke it earlier, telling me that it would track us, and John was his wolf… so he left his at his father’s office earlier today.
The sun had set, and it was dark out, but even then, he kept driving. We were in the middle of nowhere, and the road was black except for the lights of other cars. At this point, we were hoping to smell wolves, and see if anyone could help us find our way by chance.
It was probably for the best, as we would have been tracked if we had our phones, headed to a specific place. “For fucks’ sake.” He grumbled. The car’s engine light came on, and we decided to get off to find someone to help us fix it. His eyes were whisky with his wolf, and he suddenly became alert, which alerted Sparkle.
I heard a shuffling in the trunk, and the hair on the back of my neck stood on end. John pulled over immediately, and let his claws come out.
“Ugh…” Grunted the voice when he opened the trunk.
“…. Anastasia?” he grumbled quietly, picking her up, and putting her in the backseat. Thankfully no humans saw.
“Ann, you passed out this morning.” I told her, but her eyes darted swiftly around.
“No, I remember that, and I remember hearing everything…even that John’s brother tried to kill his own mom. Garnet put me in here… because I think he knew this was the car you would take.” She said sleepily and passed out on the backseat.
“Well... then… let’s get going.” He said with a small frown. He tried to start the car, but it wouldn’t go.
“God damnit.” Grumbled Ann in her sleep quietly, and it gave me an idea….
“John your prayers get answered by the Lady…. What if I did one too…?” I asked quietly, and we both sat in the car for a while.
“It wouldn’t hurt. Go for it.” He said with a small smile, but I knew he was worried.
“Um…Night Father… I need help…” I mumbled. There was a rush of whispers, and the car was shook slightly. We both looked at each other and he slowly turned the ignition…. And it started no problem. “Thank you…” I whispered, feeling like I shouldn’t have done that.
We drove another half hour before we smelled wolves. John rolled down the window, smelling for the faint scent of the pack’s location, though it never got stronger. It was strange. But ultimately, he picked a direction, and just went down the most private road he could find.
Identify yourselves strange wolves. Linked a patrol warrior. We both silently cheered, and John pulled over. I don’t think we had ever been so happy to be in trouble in our lives.
I am John Robins, this is my mate, Heidi Robins, and the Kappa in the backseat is Ann Stone, she got her wolf today and is very tired. John common linked him, and it was silent a while. He must have been talking to his Alpha.
Congratulations, pull over. He commanded, and we did as we were told. He was built like a truck, bigger than dad by a head, but his hair was as silver as his eyes. They reflected the light back, and he snarled at us.
“Where are your papers Earthen One.” He roared. “Why do you lie?”
“We left running from LapisMoon. We were attacked.” Said John honestly, and the huge wolf crossed his arms… there was no way this was a warrior. Then it dawned on me, but he stopped me before I could say anything.
“Follow me. Father will want to see you then. I’m Beta Aikesh, the Breathless One, Heir to the Fourth Seat.” He said seriously, getting into his car, and driving off the same speed we were going before we got pulled over.
My father is your father’s right seat, so that may give you some clemency, but if you transgress him, he will send you to your father blue. He warned, and I didn’t like that.
“Geez, he links like he’s still in the 1300’s” Joked John, elbowing me slightly, but I couldn’t laugh at a time like this. He was trying to cheer me up, but I didn’t want to interact with another council member right now… It didn’t comfort me that we basically were riding into a small town with allot of wolves in it. there had to be at least a city’s worth of wolves here. That was understandable… the might of the Council members meant nearly guaranteed safety from humans. But we were in serious trouble if he wasn’t a friend of Ron’s.
We followed him to a light grey stone mansion. It was rare that the Alpha didn’t live with his people, but I understood why. This place was huge, he probably didn’t want anyone to have a big head.
We parked next to Beta Aikesh and John got Ann. She woke up, and her eyes were silver with her wolf. She didn’t like it, and I could understand why. She could feel all the old males here, and she probably would rather be home, but right now, we weren’t safe there.
We walked into the door, and I saw that everything was white and silver. It was their crest color, and they had maids in uniform dusting, and cleaning up from dinner it seemed by the chatter. They bowed deeply, and Beta paid them no mind, as he seemed to come off to me as arrogant.
We went upstairs to the second floor, and we walked into the shining office. The wood in the room was dark oak, and the silver cups and paintings that lined the walls and tables made me think I was in Grandpa’s if the colors were black and gold. It made me uncomfortable, like I didn’t belong in here.
“Son, you mistreat the Second Heir.” Chastised his father, Alpha Esmond Wisp.
But this didn’t make any since. The Breathless Ones lived in Wisconxin.
“You are in Wisconxin” He corrected me, and we three looked at each other.
“….. Sir with all do respect how the Fuck did we get to the middle of the country?!” Yelled John, who I could tell was freaked out. “I mean... Sorry, it’s just we got off the interstate in Ohya…. We only stopped for gas once and somehow drove like what, 13 hours on two tanks of gas in an SUV?” He asked confused. The Fourth Seat looked at us confused as well.
“Strange…. Well at any rate the Gods were with you. Brutus lives there, he’d have killed you both.” He said with a small frown. “I suppose you two need a flight back to Lapis?” He asked gently with a small smile, but we both shook our heads.
“No sir, we have to get to my Grandfather.” I said quietly, then his eyes went wide.
“Why didn’t I recognize you, did you grow little one? Aemi always said she would be in-laws with the Queen.” He said with a larger smile.
“No sir? I think it’s just been a while.” I said with a bowed head, and he stood up.
“This will not due! I wish to let you three stay the night…. But I don’t trust that. Something doesn’t feel right about it. Son, look into flights to Grandia, I’ll escort them myself.” He said sternly.
“Yes Alpha.” Said his son. They seemed to be more uptight here than in dad’s or even Alpha Ron’s pack…
“We run things as they need to be. I love Ron like an older brother, but he allows too much mercy.” He grumbled.
John tried to hide rolling his eyes, but he got flicked on the ear. “Ow, sorry.” He grumbled, earning another one. “Sorry Alpha.”
I giggled, and he glared at me. He wouldn’t flick me, but if I wasn’t the King’s granddaughter, I feel like he would have. John narrowed his eyes at the window, and he was probably debating getting flicked a third time to chew him out, but I’m glad he didn’t.
He offered us to sit in his office, and I noticed it was 9pm. But I felt like it was sooner than that. It was strange, almost as if we skipped time or something, but I wouldn’t ponder more, he was too busy glaring at John to notice that I had run away with my thoughts.
We all tried our best to stay as quiet minded as possible, in case we would give away something that we weren’t supposed to. I was taught how to block others, and so did John, but our stones I made were left at home. If I had thought to have some extra on me, I could have channeled a blocking spell from my pocket…. Damn.
