Chapter 10 Then Don't Hold Back

"Not allowed? Edward, who do you think you are? Don't forget, I've already asked for a divorce," I shot back.

Edward jumped up and slammed his hand on the table. "If I don't have the right, who does? Talking about divorce now, are you trying to kill my dad? Don't forget how the Cooper Family got here!"

The mention of the Cooper Family, and the implied debt, always had a way of silencing me.

Of course, I knew the truth. My dad built a solid foundation, but when the Cooper Group hit a rough patch, all his so-called friends vanished. It was the Howard Family that stepped in with the funds we needed to survive.

Edward sneered, "You think you can just walk away from being Mrs. Howard whenever you feel like it? This isn't some game, Diana.""

I felt a pang of injustice. "It's funny you bring that up now. If you hadn't said anything, I'd have thought Anne was the lady of the house."

The study went dead silent. I could hear my own heartbeat.

After a long pause, Edward walked to the window, his back to me. "That's ridiculous. Anne is my sister. Do you really think I'd do something inappropriate? Stop letting your imagination run wild."

"I don't know if you've done anything inappropriate, I have no proof, but you let Anne overstep. Edward, she's just your sister. Don't you get the need to avoid suspicion?"

As soon as I said it, my anger flared up. I only meant to provoke Edward, but I ended up getting worked up myself.

Edward turned around, speaking earnestly, "We've lived like this for years, and you've never said anything. Why so serious now?"

I admitted openly, "Yeah, we've lived like this for years, and I'm tired of it."

Edward sat back down, tapping his leg with a bracelet in his hand.

I looked mockingly at the bracelet. It seemed he had made a special trip to the Howard Mansion today.

"Edward!" Anne's sudden entrance broke the tension between us.

"Anne." Edward's tone changed immediately.

"Can you help me apply some medicine? I can't reach it myself." It was only then I noticed Anne was holding a big bag of medication.

I thought, 'Apply medicine? The place where Anne is injured is her butt!'

"Of course," Edward said easily. "It's not exactly convenient here. Let's go to your room."

I stood on the ladder, shaking with anger. After Edward left, I blacked out and fell off the ladder, losing consciousness.

When I woke up, I was in the bedroom, with Melissa by my side, looking worried.

"Mrs. Howard, you have to get better soon. You scared me to death," Melissa said softly.

Seeing me look around, Melissa quickly left the room. After a while, Edward walked in slowly, wearing green striped loungewear.

There was no warmth on Edward's face, just a hint of annoyance.

"Diana, why do you do this? Is it worth hurting yourself to keep me?" Edward's words were cold and heartless.

What did he mean? Did he think I did it on purpose again?

I glanced at the bandage on my hand, already soaked with dried blood. Edward hadn't even helped me with it.

If Edward cared about me at all, he would have had a doctor treat me and known I wasn't faking it.

I wanted to explain, but I was too weak to speak.

Edward's eyes flickered slightly. After confirming I wasn't seriously hurt, he collected his emotions without giving anything away. "No more self-harm."

"That depends on you. If you go against my wishes again, I'll die right in front of you." I was dizzy and had no strength to argue. To shut Edward up, I spoke recklessly, struggling to say it in a low voice.

Melissa happened to bring in some soup. Edward angrily flung his sleeve, and the bowl of steaming soup crashed to the floor.

Soup and shards scattered everywhere.

Edward's brows furrowed, and the anger in his eyes could almost ignite the air around him. "Threatening me with death again?"

Kicking the shards on the floor wasn't enough to vent his anger. Edward kicked over a chair to release his fury.

"Diana, if this happens again, I swear the one who dies will be you!" With that, Edward stormed out.

To love others, you must first love yourself. Although I loved Edward deeply, I wouldn't harm myself for him. But I couldn't stop my tears from falling.

Melissa was frightened and hurriedly cleaned up the mess. After a while, she said to me, "Mrs. Howard, don't be sad. Mr. Howard was just angry. When you were unconscious, he was very worried. He stayed by your side the whole time."

Edward's outburst came out of nowhere and was overly dramatic.

This life was unbearable no matter how you looked at it.

I stayed home to recover for a few days and didn't see Edward. Anne wasn't home either. I couldn't help but wonder if they were together again.

During this time, Lila visited me once and brought me some recent documents.

Lila had always supported my decision to divorce, but she also brought bad news.

After my father passed away, my mother had been managing the company. Over time, some shareholders began to secretly compete, even trying to oust my mother.

I knew this was a bad sign, but I didn't know what role Edward played in this.

To become independent and no longer be controlled by him, I read law books whenever I wasn't dizzy. Fortunately, I remembered most of it, and a little review brought it all back.

One night, I was sleeping soundly when I smelled alcohol and tasted it even more strongly.

I tried to turn over, but my body was pinned down by a strong figure, kissing me passionately.

"You're awake." Edward's voice was hoarse as his fingers toyed with my lips, and he leaned down to nibble on my ear, whispering, "Darling, just cooperate with me a bit."

The moist breath on my ear made me shiver, and I was instantly wide awake.

The next second, my nightgown was pushed up to my neck, and Edward's hands roamed freely over my body.

"Edward, are you crazy!" I tried to push Edward away, but his kisses didn't stop.

Edward's kisses landed everywhere on my body, making me feel hot all over in no time.

I had always been the one to seduce him. How could I resist Edward's temptation? I couldn't help but respond.

Edward whispered, "Tonight, I'll make sure you're satisfied!"

I was glad Edward couldn't see my flushed face in the dark. I bit my wrist to stifle the sinful sounds.

"If you want it, don't hold back." Edward's breathing became heavy.

Edward lifted my legs, placing them around his waist, and intertwined his fingers with mine, pressing them against the bed. "Let me hear you, Diana. How else will I know?"

I couldn't move, my heart racing, and a wave of dizziness hit me. My body felt weightless. I could only hook my legs around Edward's body.

"You're the one enjoying it." My voice trembled.

Edward lifted his head, his eyes red, staring at me intently. "So you like talking like this?"

Sweat dripped onto my abdomen, making me tingle all over.

Edward panted, the smell of alcohol mixed with his scent, making me dizzy. "Put in some effort, and you'll be happy too."

Edward turned on the bedside lamp and lay down, pulling me onto his lap.

I thought being on top would give me control, but the difference in strength between men and women made my struggles futile.

Later, my breathing became rapid and erratic, and so did Edward's.

"I don't want to have your child!" I said, my voice trembling.

"We'll talk about it later!" Edward quickened his pace.

Maybe it was the alcohol, but Edward was especially wild tonight, and I felt unprecedented pleasure.
