Chapter 74 Diana, you can't escape now!
Edward put a finger to my lips. "Anne's still asleep," he whispered, but the look in his eyes said otherwise.
I reached up, my fingers trailing down his spine.
"It's fine. She's too young to get it," I whispered back, my lips close to his ear.
But I knew Anne was awake. She was lying there quietly, but her eyelids were twitching. She had anal sex with Edward until she bled; she definitely understood. Still, I said it anyway.
Suddenly, Edward scooped me up. The quick movement made me dizzy, and I clung to his neck, my head on his shoulder. My lips brushed his ear, and I heard him swallow, his heartbeat speeding up.
He carried me out of the room. As we left, I saw Anne watching us. I gave a small smile. Edward slammed the door, cutting off her stare.
On the way to my guest room, I teased his earlobe with my tongue. The hallway was long, but Edward's strides were big, and we got there fast. He tossed me onto the bed, which was way firmer than the main bedroom's mattress, making me whimper. Ignoring my discomfort, he took off his shirt and pressed down on me. "Diana, you can't escape now."
Edward kissed me hard, and all the pent-up desire from the past week exploded. He was relentless, each thrust more intense than the last, and I eventually blacked out.
This was my payback for seducing Edward. I just wondered how Anne managed to sleep that night.
When I woke up, Edward was sleeping beside me. I looked at his profile, feeling a flutter in my heart. He was my husband, but I couldn't remember the last time we slept like this.
I brushed a strand of hair across his face. His eyelashes fluttered, and he slowly opened his eyes. Seeing me, he wasn't surprised. He rolled over, pinning me beneath him. I gently pushed his shoulders and said shyly, "Honey, I was wrong. I don't want it anymore."
"Don't want it? Who was begging for more last night?" Edward didn't let me off. His lips silenced me.
After a night's rest, Edward was back to full strength. Another intense round followed. When he finally stopped and lay back down, my legs felt numb.
After washing up, I went downstairs with Edward, arm in arm, but there was no sign of Anne. Even after breakfast, she didn't come out.
It was Saturday, and Clara had invited me to the Howard mansion. I wanted to go with Edward and Anne, but they had an exhibition to attend, so I went alone.
As I drove out, I saw Anne already in the passenger seat of Edward's car. It turned out that she didn't want to see me and had come early to wait for him.
I rolled down the window and called out, "The exhibition doesn't start for a while. Why not have some breakfast first? Edward's waiting for you in the dining room." Without waiting for her response, I rolled up the window and drove off.
Last night was satisfying, and I was in a great mood. I didn't know how Anne felt, but I guessed it was the opposite.
So, because of Anne hiring someone to hurt me and Mia's death, Clara and I had been pretty distant. We’d seen each other a few times since then, but it was always super formal and awkward. Today, she invited me over, and I was curious about what was up.
Saturday morning traffic wasn’t too bad, so I got to the Howard mansion pretty quickly. When Clara saw me, she didn’t have her usual calm and gentle look. She seemed really anxious. "Diana, has something happened recently?"
I was confused and shook my head.
"You're trending online; did you know?" Clara quickly pulled out her phone. I leaned in and saw I was indeed in the top ten trending topics.
#Prestigious Law Firm’s New Lawyer Takes on Influencer Alice's High-Profile Divorce Case!
#Wealthy Socialite Exposed as Lawyer in Alice's Infidelity Case!
#Cheaters Deserve Punishment: Let All with Skewed Morals Be Surrounded by Mistresses!
With all the online hate, no wonder Clara was worried. I hadn’t been online much lately, but I kinda expected this. Alice had warned me there might be some nasty rumors, and I was ready for it.
But from Clara’s point of view, these rumors were bad for the family’s reputation. She obviously wanted me to get out of this mess ASAP.
"Diana, our family is well-off, and Edward treats you well. Plus, you have the Cooper Group that Mia left you. Why get involved in this influencer drama?" Clara said, clearly worried.
"Clara, I'm a lawyer. I took this case, and I have to be responsible for my client. I didn’t expect so much negative stuff online, but I can’t just quit now." I knew I had to be careful with Clara, so I spoke with a hint of grievance.
Clara seemed to have expected my response and didn’t push further. After a moment, she said, "With all these negative comments, there might be some dangerous people out there. You should be careful. Edward can’t always be with you. How about I assign two bodyguards to protect you?"
She seemed genuinely concerned, maybe thinking that since I had made up with Edward, she should also mend our relationship. Although I wasn’t used to having people follow me around, I could deal with two bodyguards. "Thanks, Clara. I need to go back to Stellar Legal Advisors later. Just have the bodyguards meet me there."
After saying goodbye to Clara, I drove back to the firm. Even though it was Saturday, a few people were still working. I coordinated with Nolan on the materials I had gathered over the past few days, including Alice’s mention of her illness as a reason for the divorce, all documented.
By evening, we wrapped up our work. Nolan said, "Diana, I didn’t expect this case to get so much attention. Be extra careful."
As I packed up, I replied, "Nolan, don’t worry. Mrs. York has already assigned two bodyguards to protect me. They’re waiting in the parking lot." Hearing that, Nolan seemed relieved.
As I walked out of the firm, a shadow suddenly darted out from the flowerbed, rushing at me with a beer bottle in hand.
"Diana, watch out!" Nolan, who had come out a bit later, shouted from behind me.
Just as I was about to turn around, another figure flashed by, kicking the bottle out of the guy’s hand and then delivering another kick that sent him sprawling. I looked up and saw it was Edward. His coat billowed with his movements, shielding me from all danger. At that moment, the two bodyguards also ran over and restrained the guy.
Nolan caught up and, seeing the man on the ground, exclaimed, "How could it be you?"
