Chapter 149 Are you pregnant?

Melissa nodded. "Yeah, I overheard it while serving food. She even begged Mrs. Clara Howard and Mr. Hayden Howard for permission. Mrs. Clara Howard wasn't on board at first, but she eventually gave in."

I nodded slightly. "No wonder I didn't see her after coming out of the bathroom yesterday. Guess that family gathering wasn't a big deal to her. When Hayden suddenly coughed, she acted all concerned, but it was just for show. Her concern for Hayden is definitely not as genuine as Aria's."

Thinking of Aria, I suddenly realized something and quickly asked Melissa, "You said Aria recently moved back to the Howard Mansion? Where was she living before?"

Melissa looked puzzled. "She was at the Howard Villa. Shortly after you moved out, she moved in. But back then, Mr. Edward Howard and Anne were still in the hospital, so Aria was living alone at the Howard Villa. I must say, Aria's personality is much better than Anne's," Melissa said, her eyes full of admiration.

I wasn't interested in Melissa's admiration; I was focused on one thing, "Why did she move out of the Howard Mansion to live at the Howard Villa?"

Melissa shook her head, looking confused. "She said it was to make it easier to organize the things Mr. Edward Howard and Anne needed in the hospital. And she said living there made it more convenient to cook and bring things for them."

Melissa looked out the window, lost in thought. "When Aria was at the Howard Villa, she was easy to take care of. Her routine was very regular. She'd take a walk in the garden in the morning, then go back to her room to read or handle her own stuff. She never needed me to clean her room. Sometimes, when I brought her food, she'd chat with me at the door, very politely. Unlike Anne, who's super demanding and picky," Melissa said, her eyes showing a hint of fondness for Aria.

At first, her reason seemed solid, so I didn't question it further. But once the doubt was planted, it grew in my mind, impossible to ignore.

Especially since Hayden's words from last night echoed in my ears, "Aria is pregnant with Edward's child."

There had to be more to this. Could it be that Aria really had special feelings for Edward? Otherwise, why would she willingly have his child? Various speculations ran wild in my mind, intertwining and tangling in my thoughts.

When I was lost in my tangled thoughts, Melissa's gentle voice broke through, "You should eat something." She somehow conjured up a steaming bowl of spaghetti and set it in front of me.

Last night at the Howard Mansion, I barely ate, and what little I did eat, I threw up. Now, the smell of the spaghetti made me realize I was a bit hungry. But as soon as I brought the fork to my mouth, a wave of nausea hit me, and I almost threw up again. I quickly pushed the bowl back to Melissa and weakly waved my hand. "I feel so awful these days, I can't eat anything. Just looking at food makes me sick," I said.

Melissa looked at me thoughtfully, then suddenly burst into laughter. I was puzzled and couldn't help but ask, "Melissa, what's so funny?"

With a mysterious look in her eyes, Melissa took my hand and said, "Look at you now. Could it be a pleasant surprise?"

"A surprise?" I was confused.

Melissa's smile grew even kinder. "Pregnant, of course. You look just like I did when I was pregnant. I couldn't keep anything down either. At first, I thought I had a stomach bug, but then I found out I was expecting."

I was shocked and asked, "A child?"

This was unimaginable for me. For the past four years, I went through so much hardship trying to get pregnant, spending every month in a cycle of hope and disappointment, yet I never conceived. But now, when I've been doing everything possible to avoid pregnancy, how could I possibly be expecting?

I shook my head instinctively and said with a bitter smile, "Melissa, that's impossible. I've been taking birth control pills, and after all these years of not conceiving, it's probably just a stomach bug from a cold."

Melissa gently patted my hand, full of concern. "Alright, maybe not. But look at you; your complexion is so poor. You need to eat something to get some nutrition. What would you like? Whether it's some light oatmeal or your favorite snacks, I'll make it for you."

Melissa's thoughtfulness warmed me, but I really had no appetite.

After a while, Lila burst into the room like a whirlwind. She hadn't even steadied herself before shouting, "Diana, what's going on? You were fine when you left Stellar Legal Advisors the other day. How did you end up like this?"

I scratched my head awkwardly and responded, "I got caught in the rain that day, which is probably why I have a fever now."

Just then, a woman in her forties hurried into the room, panting. "Lila, you ran so fast, I almost couldn't find the room."

Seeing this unfamiliar face, I turned to Lila, puzzled. "Who is this?"

Lila smacked her forehead in frustration and said, "I was in such a hurry; I forgot to mention it." She turned to me and explained, "This is the caregiver I hired. You asked me to find one for you, and I was in such a rush that I didn't have time to tell you she was coming with me."

Now that Lila and the caregiver were here, Melissa felt reassured and prepared to leave. As she was about to go out the door, I sternly reminded her, "Melissa, remember our agreement. Don't tell anyone in the Howard family."

Melissa sighed softly, a hint of hesitation in her eyes, but she eventually nodded in agreement.
