Chapter 428 His Attitude

Jeffrey's smile froze instantly, his eyes flashing with disbelief, like he never expected me to shut him down so hard.

His face turned bright red, and his gaze became fierce. His teeth clenched tightly, making a grinding sound like an enraged beast.

"Diana, don't push it!"

He shouted, stepping forward aggressively. His hands clenched into fists, knuckles turning white from the pressure, his previous polite demeanor completely gone.

"Diana, don't be stupid! Edward's just a broke loser; he can't give you the life you want. I'm offering you a chance. You'll regret it if you miss out on me!"

I stared him down fearlessly, responding coldly, "I will never regret it. Someone like you is not worth my trust."

"I won't regret it because the life I want isn't built on money. The value Edward and I create together is something you'll never understand. Leave my office immediately and don't interfere in my life again!"

Jeffrey's face showed a fleeting hint of displeasure, his eyes revealing the malice hidden beneath his facade.

But quickly, he forced a smile, his facial muscles adjusting as if nothing had happened. "Diana, think it over. I'm genuinely looking out for you. What I'm offering, Edward can't give you."

He was still trying to persuade me, acting like he was genuinely considering my best interests.

As he spoke, he slowly raised his hand towards my shoulder, seemingly trying to close the distance between us and show his "sincerity."

Sensing his intention, my body tensed up.

I swiftly sidestepped, instinctively moving my feet to avoid his hand.

I put some distance between us, glaring at him, warning him with my eyes not to cross any boundaries.

I responded coldly, "Jeffrey, you don't need to worry about me. Edward and I are facing challenges together for our own life and future."

Jeffrey showed no intention of leaving, stubbornly standing his ground. "Diana, you're just angry right now. Once you calm down, you'll understand my good intentions. I'm doing all this for you."

I glared at him angrily, raising my voice, "I am calm! Leave my office now, or I'll call security!"

Jeffrey stared at me for a moment, his face turning extremely unpleasant, as if he wanted to say something more.

Suddenly, he turned around and stormed towards the door. At the door, he paused and looked back at me deeply.

The door slammed shut, the loud noise echoing in the office, making my heart tremble.

I collapsed into my chair, exhausted from the confrontation with Jeffrey. My hands were still trembling, my mind replaying Jeffrey's sinister and crazy demeanor, and the terrible things he said about Anne.

Just as I was immersed in tension and fatigue, my phone rang abruptly.

I snapped back to reality, trembling as I picked up the phone, Edward's name flashing on the screen.

"Hey, Edward..."

I tried to keep my voice steady, but the trembling in my tone gave me away.

"Diana, what's wrong? You sound off."

Edward's sharp instincts picked up on the change in my voice, asking with concern.

I took a deep breath, trying to stay calm as I recounted Jeffrey's visit and the awful things he said about Anne to Edward.

Edward fell into a long silence, so long that I began to worry if the signal had cut off. I anxiously called his name.

"I'm listening, Diana."

Edward's voice was low and suppressed, filled with uncontrollable anger.

"That Jeffrey, to do such a thing, Anne..."

Edward paused, then continued, "When Jeffrey said all this, did he mention his role in it? He can't just be a bystander."

Edward's voice carried a hint of certainty.

I recalled my conversation with Jeffrey, saying, "He said he was displeased with Anne's behavior, so he hinted to Nicholas to teach her a lesson. But Nicholas became interested in Anne and imprisoned her. I don't think he's telling the truth. His eyes and expressions were off, like he's hiding something more important."

To avoid unnecessary misunderstandings, I didn't mention to Edward that Jeffrey's drastic change in attitude towards Anne was due to learning about her relationship with me and him.

Meanwhile, I was curious and eager to know what action Edward would take upon learning about Anne's dire situation.

"That Jeffrey, so malicious."

Edward gritted his teeth, speaking slowly,

"He's definitely not that simple. There might be a bigger conspiracy behind this. Diana, you must be extremely careful in the coming days. Jeffrey has completely exposed his true nature, and I'm really worried he might harm you."

"What about Anne?" I asked anxiously, my words filled with worry.

The other end of the line fell into a long silence.

After a while, Edward asked, "Did Jeffrey mention where Anne is being held?"

From Edward's tone, I could tell he was still concerned about Anne.

"No, he only said Nicholas imprisoned her, but didn't mention the location at all."

I carefully recalled my conversation with Jeffrey, confirming this conclusion.

Edward took a deep breath, slowly saying, "This is very troublesome."

"Edward," I couldn't help but call his name softly.

Edward realized his mistake and quickly explained, "Diana, I'm sorry, I lost my composure. You know, despite everything Anne has done to hurt me over the years, and the fact that we've lost contact, she was once my sister. I still worry about her."

"Okay," I responded softly, feeling a twinge of sadness.

Edward quickly reassured me, "Diana, don't worry. In my heart, you and Skylar are the most important. Your health and happiness always come first."

Listening to Edward's earnest words, I couldn't help but laugh.

"Don't be so tense. I won't mind."

I gently comforted Edward, but my heart still felt a slight sting, a subtle pain.
