Chapter 370 Tracking

I walked out of the clinic with Lila, hoping to make a quiet exit, but something caught my eye. Instinctively, I grabbed Lila's arm.

Lila, always sharp, noticed my reaction and asked, "Diana, what's up?"

I nodded towards Fiona and whispered, "Lila, look over there."

We slowed our pace and hid behind a nearby pillar, secretly watching Edward and Fiona.

Edward looked agitated, barely listening to Fiona. He opened his mouth to respond but ended up just rubbing his temples in frustration.

Just then, a distressed patient hurried over and, noticing Edward's volunteer vest, asked apologetically, "Excuse me, can you tell me where the billing office is? I've been looking for it forever."

Edward seized the chance to escape the conversation and quickly said, "I'm heading that way. I'll show you."

With that, he briskly walked away with the patient, leaving Fiona standing there alone.

Fiona bit her lip, her eyes following Edward as he left. She knew that throwing a fit here would only damage her reputation.

But the frustration in her chest broke through her restraint, and she shouted at Edward's retreating back, "You think you can just avoid me? It's not that easy!"

Her voice echoed through the clinic hallway, drawing curious stares from everyone around.

Edward hesitated for a moment but didn't turn back. Instead, he quickened his pace and soon disappeared around the corner.

Once Edward was completely out of sight, Fiona quickly composed herself and walked out of the clinic with a forced calm.

Lila, following my gaze, quickly understood. She suggested, "Should we follow her?"

I hesitated and said, "Wouldn't that be invading her privacy?"

Lila thought for a moment and replied, "But she seems really upset. What if something happens? We can just follow from a distance and not interfere."

After a brief internal debate, I decided to go along with it.

We carefully trailed behind Fiona. Her steps seemed steady, and each one was filled with determination. The sound of her heels hitting the ground echoed her frustration with Edward.

We maneuvered through the crowd, trying not to lose sight of Fiona while avoiding being noticed.

Then, Fiona stepped out of the clinic and stood on the steps, answering a phone call.

We were too far to hear what she was saying, but we could see her frowning.

A sleek black car pulled up in front of her, and a uniformed driver hurried out to open the door for her. Fiona bent down and got into the car.

"She's getting in a car! We need to get a cab!" Lila urgently tugged at my sleeve.

I snapped out of it and quickly hailed a taxi."Follow that black car, please!" I told the driver as I buckled my seatbelt.

The driver gave us a puzzled look through the rearview mirror but started the car without a word.

Fiona's car sped through the streets, and the taxi followed closely behind.

The sounds of the city filled the car as we came to a stop and then started moving again with the flow of traffic.

Suddenly, Fiona's car made a sharp turn into a narrow alley.

When our taxi followed, the car was nowhere to be seen.

"Where did it go? It was just in front of us!" Lila asked anxiously.

The driver frowned and gave a wry smile. "Ladies, the driver of that car noticed you were following. They took a few sharp turns and lost you. These alleys are like a maze; they could have taken any turn, and we'd never find them."

We sat in the car, staring at the empty alley, feeling defeated.

"Looks like we lost them," I sighed, leaning back.

Lila gently patted my shoulder and suddenly laughed. "Diana, why were we so determined to follow Fiona anyway?" she asked.

I was momentarily at a loss for words.

I looked out the window, my thoughts drifting back to the scene at the clinic.

"I guess seeing Fiona so desperate and Edward so determined to avoid her made me curious about what happened between them. And seeing Edward ignore Fiona reminded me of how he used to leave me alone to deal with his own things," I said.

Lila nodded thoughtfully. "I get it, Diana. So, what now? Do we keep following Fiona?"

I shook my head. "We've been spotted. We can't risk following her anymore. Fiona's already upset, and if we push her, she might retaliate."

The taxi driver, growing impatient, interrupted, "Ladies, where to? I don't have time to sit here listening to your conversation."

Lila, startled by the driver's loud voice, turned to me and said, "Don't overthink it. You have your own life now, and you have Skylar. That's what matters."

I suddenly remembered something and said, "It's almost time to pick up Skylar from preschool. Why don't you come with me? She loves you and always asks when you'll come over."

Lila's eyes lit up. "Sure, I'd love to see Skylar. I've missed that little rascal."

At this, I gave the driver the address of the preschool.

We chatted and laughed about Skylar's antics on the way. Before we knew it, we arrived at the preschool. Parents were chatting or waiting with their phones. We found a spot on a small grassy area with colorful benches and watched the kids playing.

Finally, the school bell rang, and the children lined up to leave. Skylar, in her pink jacket, bounced along in the line.
