Chapter 135 Statement
"Diana, have you figured out who did this?" Lila stood up from the couch, her brows furrowed with worry.
I nodded, biting my lip. "It was Anne who uploaded them, but Edward's involved, too. He gave her the photos."
Lila and Daisy both gasped in shock.
"How could he do this to you? Why did you let him take those photos?" Lila's eyes were wide with disbelief.
I sighed. "He took them secretly. I had no idea he had so many photos of me on his phone. But I confronted him today, and his main goal is to make me submit to him and accept Anne." I shrugged helplessly.
"That's disgusting. I really misjudged him." Lila curled her lip in disgust. "What about Aria? How does he treat her?"
"Edward doesn't seem to care about her at all. He even told her to get lost." I shook my head and sighed. "But Aria wasn't mad. She said she was going home to cook Anne's favorite meal."
"Aria is really strange. How can she be so weak? Being treated like that by Edward and still trying to please Anne, what is she thinking?" Lila frowned, puzzled. "I thought she might be sensible, but now it seems she's just foolish. Is she really willing to be bullied by Edward and Anne? It's so hard to understand."
"She's pretending to be weak to seize the opportunity to win." I sneered.
"What are you planning to do?" Lila asked, her eyes filled with anticipation.
"I don't want to be controlled by him anymore. I want to work hard and support myself. So you have to help me get more cases." I held Lila's hand, looking at her with determination.
"Okay, as long as Stellar Legal Advisors is around, you can take any case I have." Seeing that I wasn't defeated by Edward and Anne, Lila smiled with relief, her eyes shining with admiration.
"Wait a minute, why are there more and more negative comments online? I hired so many Internet trolls, but they can't stop the attacks." Daisy said, her fingers flying over the keyboard. Suddenly, she looked up, her face anxious as she glanced between Lila and me. We hurried over to check the situation, and sure enough, the public opinion that had been in my favor had shifted again.
"Diana, I think you need to issue a statement yourself now," Lila suggested seriously, her brows slightly furrowed.
"A statement?" I was a bit puzzled.
"Yes, we were discussing this before you arrived. You have some online presence now. If you issue a statement, you will definitely gain some supporters." Daisy said as she stood up, giving me her seat, her eyes full of encouragement.
Seeing their sincere eyes, I thought for a while and felt they were right. So I logged into my account and issued a statement: [I am Diana, a lawyer at Wind City Stellar Legal Advisors. The recent photos and rumors about me online are false information. I reserve the right to hold the responsible parties accountable. At the same time, on behalf of Stellar Legal Advisors, I advocate to all women: If you or someone you know is facing similar troubles, please contact Stellar Legal Advisors. We will provide free legal assistance.]
I hit the send button and turned to Lila. "Lila, I'm sorry for starting a public assistance campaign in the name of Stellar Legal Advisors without asking you first." I felt a bit guilty.
"Diana, what are you talking about? I back all your decisions." Lila smiled and picked up the company's internal phone to call the head of planning. "Check out the statement Ms. Cooper issued and plan a public assistance event around it. Yes, the firm will cover all costs. Get the PR department to promote it online too." Lila spoke with such confidence, like she already knew this would be a hit.
Within minutes, women with similar experiences started commenting on my statement, and Stellar Legal Advisors got a call for help from a young woman.
Lila, balancing the phone between her cheek and shoulder, jotted down the info while giving me a thumbs-up. After hanging up, she turned to me, beaming. "Diana, your plan is genius! Not only did you get support for yourself, but you also gave our firm some great publicity. Even though this is a public assistance event, our reputation is getting a boost. When the firm profits from this, I'll make sure you get a share." Lila was practically glowing with excitement, patting my shoulder enthusiastically.
Just when we thought everything was going smoothly, something unexpected happened.
That afternoon, sunlight streamed through the office windows. I was supposed to meet with Lawrence to go over some details. But when the time came, he was a no-show. I sat at my desk, glancing at the door and clutching my phone, making several calls, but Lawrence didn't pick up. I was puzzled, my brows furrowed. Did he have a last-minute conflict? But we had just confirmed the time yesterday. If something came up, he should've let me know.
Time dragged on. By evening, all the lawyers at Stellar Legal Advisors had left, but Lawrence still hadn't shown up. Frustrated, I got up and started pacing the office, growing more anxious by the minute. I couldn't just sit around waiting, so I went back to my desk, opened my laptop, and sent him an email:
[Subject: Reminder of Meeting Time
Mr. Parker,
Hi there!
This is Diana. We had a meeting scheduled for this afternoon to discuss your case details. However, you didn't show up, and I haven't been able to reach you by phone. I understand that unforeseen circumstances might have caused a delay, but to keep things moving smoothly, I'm sending this email as a reminder.
Our discussion is crucial for the next steps, and we need to confirm many details together. We just confirmed the time yesterday, and I believe you value this meeting as much as I do.
If you have a scheduling conflict, please contact me as soon as you see this email, and we can reschedule. I'll work around your schedule to make sure we can complete this discussion.
Looking forward to your reply. Best wishes!
Diana Cooper]
After sending the email, I kept refreshing my inbox, but it felt like the email had vanished into thin air, with no response in sight.
