Chapter 396 Rumors
David and Edward exchanged a quick look, a glimmer of hope lighting up their faces.
David jumped up, his voice full of excitement. "No time to waste, Diana. Call him right now. We gotta get ahead of Jeffrey and take control!"
I grabbed my phone and scrolled through my contacts. Finally, I found Harvey's number and hit the call button without a second thought. As soon as the call connected, a warm, familiar voice greeted me. "Hey, is this Diana?"
I replied quickly, my voice urgent. "Yeah, Harvey, it's been a long time!"
Harvey laughed heartily. "Diana! I was just about to leave this beautiful country and was hoping to see you before I go. Since you called, why don't we meet up and catch up? How about tomorrow at 3 PM at the downtown café? Does that work for you?"
Relief washed over me, and I quickly agreed. "Perfect, Harvey. I'll be there at 3 PM sharp!"
After hanging up, I immediately shared the news with David and Edward.
David's expression grew serious as he offered me a stern reminder. "I didn't expect Harvey to agree so easily. Diana, this meeting is crucial. You need to find out Jeffrey's real intentions and the details of his deal with Anne. This info is vital for us to plan our next move."
Edward chimed in, looking worried. "Exactly, Diana. If you get the chance, try to get Harvey to mediate and see if he can convince Jeffrey to back off from working with Anne. Even if he can just buy us some time, it would be a huge help."
"Don't worry," I said, trying to stay calm. "Harvey agreed to meet, but I'll need to find the right moment to bring it up."
The next afternoon, I got to the café early and picked a seat by the window. Right at 3 PM, Harvey walked in, dressed in a sharp suit and wearing a gentle smile.
He spotted me right away and walked over with steady steps, extending his hand warmly. "Diana, it's been a while! You look as radiant as ever!"
I stood up quickly, shaking his hand with a smile. "Harvey, you look great too, as always."
After some small talk, we took our seats and placed our orders. Once the waiter left, Harvey leaned back slightly in his chair, his gaze soft. "Diana, tell me, what brings you to me this time? You seem to be in a bit of a bind," he said.
Taking a deep breath, I organized my thoughts and spoke honestly. "Harvey, to be straight with you, I'm here because my friend is in a tough spot. It's not my problem directly, but I'm really worried about them."
Harvey nodded slightly, a hint of admiration in his eyes. "I've always known you to be loyal and caring, Diana. It's no surprise you'd go to such lengths for a friend."
Feeling a bit embarrassed by his praise, I waved my hand modestly. "Harvey, you're too kind. When a friend is in trouble, I can't just stand by. This situation is beyond my capabilities, so I came to you for help."Harvey nodded, his eyes searching as he gestured for me to continue.
"My friend is working on a big real estate project, with a lot of money on the line and high hopes from everyone involved. But now, their biggest competitor, Anne, is planning to team up with Jeffrey to mess things up. Jeffrey's involvement has really thrown a wrench in the works, messing up my friend's cash flow and shaking the confidence of their partners," I explained, my brow furrowed with worry.
The mention of Jeffrey's name caused a subtle shift in Harvey's otherwise composed demeanor. After a moment of thought, Harvey spoke. "Jeffrey has strong family backing and is known for being cautious. He wouldn't get involved in a new project without being sure of its potential. His partnership with Anne suggests there's substantial profit to be made. However, I don't know much about Anne's methods. If Jeffrey chose to work with her, she must have something unique to offer."
Harvey's response was noncommittal, and I pressed on. "Harvey, you're well-informed and know Jeffrey well. Do you have any idea what part of the project Jeffrey is interested in or what his next move might be?"
Harvey paused to sip his coffee thoughtfully, his gaze wandering as if he were lost in memories. He said, "I've heard some rumors recently. Jeffrey has been in touch with an international investment group that's keen on innovative real estate development models. Your friend's project might fit well with their new strategy. Unfortunately, I don't have much useful information about Anne right now."
I listened attentively, quietly contemplating that although the information was limited, Jeffrey's movements still provided us with a new direction for our investigation.
"Harvey, do you think you could help mediate? Even if it's just to slow Jeffrey down, it would give my friend time to replan and adjust their strategy," I asked, my tone pleading.
Harvey suddenly smiled with a knowing look. "Diana, this friend of yours must be someone quite extraordinary to you, right?"
His sudden question caught me off guard, and my heart skipped a beat. I forced a casual smile. "Harvey, what do you mean? My friends have always been there for me in tough times, so it's only natural I'd do the same for them."
I picked up my coffee cup, trying to hide my nervousness.
Sensing my discomfort, Harvey didn't press further. He shook his head slightly, smiling. "Alright, I was just curious," he responded.
I nodded slightly and continued. "Harvey, my friend is in a tight spot. Do you think there's any chance Jeffrey might reconsider his partnership with Anne?"
Harvey set down his coffee cup, looking a bit troubled. He replied, "Diana, Jeffrey and I are business partners. However, with such business decisions, especially those concerning profit distribution, my rash interference could backfire."
