Chapter 206 A New Opportunity

I couldn't help but get all choked up. I always knew who the enemy was, but the problem was, I was out in the open while they were hiding. I racked my brain but couldn't figure out how to get back what was taken from us.

But the twist of fate was always sudden and it came way sooner than I thought.

So, there we were, the three of us, stepping out of Stellar Legal Advisors, with the setting sun painting the sky a deep orange.

Nolan looked at us and said, "How about we grab some dinner together?"

Lila's eyes lit up at the idea. Getting to have dinner with her idol? She was all in, no hesitation.

The weather was nice, with a gentle breeze blowing, so I decided to take a walk back alone, giving those two some alone time.

I strolled down the tree-lined street, and at a corner on my way home, an elderly man called out to me, "Miss, I left in a hurry and forgot my phone. Could I borrow yours to call my assistant?"

The voice sounded oddly familiar, but I couldn't place it right away.

With some doubt, I turned my head slowly, and when our eyes met, memories from the past came rushing back.

"Mr. Jackson?" I blurted out, totally surprised.

Nicholas didn't expect it to be me offering help, and a quick flash of joy crossed his face.

"Diana, you haven't been in touch much since you acknowledged me as your godfather. You don't even call me godfather anymore?" he said, sounding a bit reproachful.

I blushed a little, smoothed my hair apologetically, and quickly replied, "Godfather, how could I not acknowledge you? I've just been through a lot lately and haven't had the time to visit. I feel really guilty about it."

Before Mia passed away, she had told me some things about Nicholas. It was through her that I understood why she was so against me acknowledging him as my godfather back then.

The Nicholas standing in front of me, who seemed so upright and honest, was actually capable of using all sorts of underhanded tactics to achieve his business goals. In his world, family and friendship seemed insignificant and could be trampled on at will.

Nicholas nodded slightly and said, "I know you've had some troubles recently. But why didn't you come to me for help right away? With my connections and experience, handling these trivial matters should be easy for me."

But whenever I looked into his eyes, I always caught a hint of something indescribable, like there were hidden thoughts behind his seemingly concerned exterior.

So I kept a polite smile and responded softly, "Those complicated matters are too disturbing. I was really worried they would ruin your good mood, so I didn't want to bother you."

Nicholas sighed, looking a bit dissatisfied, "Why are you being so formal with me?"

"You didn't have your phone with you. Let me call your assistant for you." I cleverly took the chance to change the subject.

Sensing that I wanted to avoid the topic, Nicholas didn't push further and let me call his assistant. On the other end of the line, his assistant was freaking out because she couldn't find Nicholas. When she heard I was with him, she asked for the address and quickly hung up.

Since Nicholas was an elder, it wouldn't be cool to leave him waiting alone on the street, so I sat with him on a bench by the roadside.

Out of nowhere, Nicholas said, "Diana, I've seen your live streams online lately. You're pretty popular!"

I replied modestly, "Godfather, you're too kind."

Nicholas went on, "Have you ever thought about moving beyond live streaming and getting into television?"

"Television?" I asked, a bit confused and curious.

Nicholas squinted slightly, his gaze drifting to the busy traffic in the distance.

Then, in his usual gentle tone, he said, "I have a friend who's working on a reality show about entrepreneurship. Would you be interested?"

As he spoke, he gently raised his well-manicured hand and lightly patted the back of mine with a hint of affection.

I was a bit taken aback, a trace of doubt flashing in my eyes, and then I looked up at Nicholas.

He continued, "If you're interested, I can introduce you to the director."

Nicholas looked at me, a smile playing on his lips. It was a smile that seemed to hide endless meaning, but my naive self didn't catch on at the time.

Thinking this might be a great chance for my career, I agreed without hesitation.

Just then, a shiny business car quietly pulled up beside us. The door opened, and a woman in a mini skirt stepped out, walking briskly towards Nicholas.

Her delicate face was full of respect, and she said in a sweet, clear voice, "Mr. Jackson, why did you come here alone? I was so worried when I couldn't find you."

Her tone was full of concern, but to me, it seemed a bit flirty.

With the help of the assistant, Nicholas slowly stood up. As he did, he casually gave her hip a light squeeze, his face still wearing that harmless, gentle smile. He said, "With my goddaughter Diana here, what do you have to worry about?"

Hearing this, the assistant immediately smiled and thanked me profusely.

Then, she carefully helped Nicholas turn and leave.

Before leaving, Nicholas turned back to remind me, "Diana, I'll set up a meeting with the director for you tomorrow night."

After seeing Nicholas off, I thought to myself that Lila didn't have much to do with Nicholas. Since this was just an initial meeting with the director and it was still uncertain if we'd reach a deal, I decided not to invite Lila.

I did some research and found out this director was pretty impressive. He had made significant contributions to the variety show industry, was a well-known entrepreneur, and had complex business dealings with many major companies in the film and television industry. Knowing this was a rare opportunity, I cherished it and arrived early at the agreed hotel with sincerity.
