Chapter 398 Anne Surrenders

Watching Jeffrey rush out, I stood there, frozen, my mind racing.

Harvey gave my shoulder a gentle pat, snapping me out of it.

"He's acting weird today. Usually, he's so calm, never this frantic."

I watched Jeffrey's figure disappear, confusion swirling in my head.

What does he know? What did he mean by saying some things can't be abandoned?

I shook my head, feeling lost.

"Looks like his connection to this project and Anne is way more complicated than we thought."

Harvey, deep in thought, took a sip of his coffee.

"Diana, don't stress too much. Things will turn around. Jeffrey's a smart guy; he definitely took your words to heart."

"I hope so. But his close ties with Anne worry me. I'm afraid he'll get dragged into that dangerous project. And I have a feeling their relationship isn't just business."

I couldn't help but voice my doubts.

Suddenly, a petite woman rushed in, scanning the room anxiously before heading straight for us.

I looked closely—it was Anne.

Anne reached our table, her expression urgent.

"Diana, I heard Jeffrey was just here. Did he talk to you about the real estate project?"

My heart skipped a beat, and I eyed her warily.

"Anne, weren't you the one who called Jeffrey away? What are you up to now?"

Anne bit her lip, a hint of helplessness in her eyes.

"Diana, I know you're wary of me, but this time I really want to help. Fiona's relationship with Nicholas is complicated. I recently discovered that Nicholas and Fiona are plotting something huge with this real estate project."

Seeing my disbelief, Anne pulled a file from her bag and slammed it on the table, drawing the attention of everyone around us.

"Diana, I went through hell to get these documents. They detail Nicholas and Fiona's shady deals and the dirty secrets behind this project!"

Her hands trembled, and her voice grew more urgent.

I hesitated, then opened the file. It was filled with copies of contracts and handwritten notes.

As I skimmed through, my expression grew more serious.

These documents were exactly what I had asked Lila to gather. They confirmed my suspicions—the situation behind this project was far more complex than we imagined.

"Anne, why the sudden change of heart?"

I looked her in the eye, puzzled.

Anne's eyes reddened, and she bit her lip, a look of conflict crossing her face.

"I love money. I want lots of it. Only money can satisfy me. But Nicholas treats me like a toy, a pawn. I can't understand why he respects you and Fiona but uses me like this. I've had enough of this life!"

Anne grew more agitated.

Taking a deep breath, she tried to calm down before continuing.

"Since meeting Jeffrey, his attitude towards me has been completely different from Nicholas's. The kindness he shows is something I've never felt before. I want the money and love I crave from him."

Her words stirred something in me. So there were feelings between Anne and Jeffrey.

But why was Anne suddenly spilling all this? I could only watch her continue her rant.

Harvey frowned, looking serious.

"Anne, this is dangerous. Jeffrey's already tangled up in this project. You getting involved will just make things worse."

Anne ignored Harvey, her eyes filled with longing.

"You don't get it. When Jeffrey talks to me, the look in his eyes, the warmth—it almost melts me. I know he has his own plans for this project, but I can't help myself. I feel like he's the one who can give me the life I want."

I looked at Anne, lost in her emotions.

"Are you nuts? If Nicholas finds out you have feelings for another guy, have you thought about what he'll do to you?"

At that moment, I felt a sudden pity for Anne.

"Of course I know."

Anne laughed bitterly.

"How could I not notice? Lately, every time I look at Nicholas, his eyes are as cold as ice, like they could freeze me. Even his bodyguards watch me closely when I enter and leave the villa, their eyes always on me, seemingly casual but constantly monitoring my every move."

Anne sniffled, looking desperate.

"My frequent contact with Jeffrey has probably already been noticed by Nicholas. But I can't let go. I still hold onto a sliver of hope, thinking maybe I can hide it, enjoy a few more days with Jeffrey, even if it's just self-deception."

Anne tried to compose herself and said to me, "Diana, I have to go. Whether you believe me or not, these documents are real. I hope they help you, and I hope you can save me."

I nodded, taking the file.

"Alright, Anne. I hope you're sincere this time. If these documents help us, I might consider forgiving your past actions."

With that, Anne hurriedly left the coffee shop.

Watching her leave, Harvey couldn't help but ask, "Regardless, these documents are valuable. Diana, you have more clues now. Can you solve your friend's problem?"

I smiled bitterly and shook my head.

"It's not that simple. The documents are precious, but the forces behind this are deeply rooted. I know Anne; we can't fully trust what she says."

I looked out at the bustling street, silently vowing, 'Fiona, Nicholas, your schemes won't succeed. I will stop you.'

My phone suddenly vibrated. It was Lila calling.

"Diana, it's bad! I just found out Nicholas knows I'm investigating him. He seems to be planning revenge!"

Lila's voice was filled with fear and urgency.

My heart tightened, and I tried to stay calm to reassure her.

"Lila, don't panic. Find a safe place to hide. Where are you now? We'll come to get you."
