Chapter 18 Diana Had a Great Time Drinking

I usually handle my booze pretty well, but I'd skipped lunch and was downing these drinks like water. No surprise, I was down for the count.

"Here, drink some water. It'll help," Nolan said, handing me a glass of warm water that felt like a hug for my stomach.

"Nolan, look at you being all thoughtful. Why don't you show this side to the girls chasing you?" David teased with a laugh.

Nolan just blushed and went back to his seat, too shy to respond.

I kept pouring more alcohol into my glass, downing one after another. My stomach was doing flips, and before I knew it, I was crying and puking, letting out all the bottled-up feelings.

After hurling, I took another swig from the bottle, but it came right back up, like my stomach was trying to escape.

"You're still drinking? Are you trying to kill yourself over a job?" David snapped.

"You're all picking on me. Every single one of you," I wailed, slumping over the table.

"Who?" David asked, looking shocked. "Besides me, who else dares to mess with you?"

Through my blurry vision, I saw David's face twist. He leaned back, hands in his pockets, looking just as smug as he did when we were kids and he always won.

"Edward," I muttered, thinking of the guy I once loved so much, who now hurt me the most. "I hate you so much."

I waved my hand in front of David. "If I could go back in time, I'd totally listen to you and not marry that jerk."

"Edward? Weren't you two head over heels?" David looked doubtful.

"Head over heels?" I sobbed, unable to string a full sentence together, my body giving out.

I forced another glass of alcohol down my throat in one gulp.

I bent over, dry heaving, and spat out some more booze.

"That's enough!" David snatched the glass from me.

"Eighty million dollars. Being rich must be nice," I laughed, my head on the table.

"Dad's gone, Mom doesn't care, I want a divorce, and I need eighty million dollars," I wailed, my voice filling the room.

"What divorce? What eighty million dollars?" David grabbed my shoulders, shaking me.

"Mr. Wilson, please, let me work..." My stomach churned again, and David's suit got a fresh coat of my vomit.

I couldn't form a complete sentence anymore, my body crumpling to the floor.

"Diana, you!" David stepped back, looking horrified.

"Sorry, Mr. Wilson, how much is it? I'll pay," I mumbled, my mind clear but my body out of control, falling to the ground. Just as I was about to hit the floor, David caught me.

"Do you know how much this suit costs? You couldn't pay for it even if you worked at Stellar Legal Advisors for a year," David said, giving my back a slap.

I coughed violently.

"Can't afford it? Rich people, always so... untouchable. I'll sell myself to Stellar Legal Advisors, sell myself to you. Please, let me divorce Edward," I pleaded, reaching for the bottle but missing.

"Edward, is he treating you badly?" David asked, sounding unsure.

"He's so good to me! I love him so much," I mumbled, leaning against David's chest and looking up at his face.

"Anne, Anne is good too. I love him, he loves Anne, they're the real deal," I laughed, but it sounded more like a sob.

"Okay, Diana, you need to... whoa, easy there. You're really starting to reek," David turned his body to the side, trying to avoid me.

"I messed up your clothes. I'll wash them for you," I said, reaching to unbutton David's shirt.

"Nolan, a little help here?" David called out, clearly desperate.

Nolan, still sitting nearby and watching the chaos, shrugged. "Who told you to mess with her?"

"You! I'll dock your pay!" David snapped, getting more anxious.

"Don't you dare," Nolan shot back, moving swiftly to my side. He gently wiped my face with a napkin, his touch surprisingly gentle.

"What the hell is going on here?" Albert suddenly burst in. "Mrs. Howard in Mr. Wilson's arms, and Nolan wiping her face? This is too much."

Albert shouted, "Let go! Mr. Howard is here!"

Mr. Howard? Edward was here?

I tried to open my eyes and saw Edward approaching, his presence cold and suffocating.

Tears or maybe the alcohol blurred my vision, and I couldn't see clearly anymore.

"Mr. Wilson," Edward's icy gaze fell on me, questioning, "What's going on here?"

Our positions did look suspicious, and the dim lighting in the room added a touch of ambiguity. From Edward's perspective, it did look like the three of us were up to something inappropriate.

David and Nolan, not the timid type, didn't let go of me despite Edward's questioning, preventing me from falling.

"Honey, you're here," I tried to stand up. "Let's go home."

David pushed me back into the chair, and I slumped into his arms.

"What have you been up to, Edward? Your wife came to me begging for money. Can't even afford to keep your own wife happy?" David's cold voice sounded above me.

"This is between my wife and me," Edward said coldly, his eyes boring into David.

David smirked, "Right, because Diana coming to me for financial help is a perfectly normal marital spat. She was just celebrating her happiness a little too enthusiastically, that's all. You don't mind, do you, Edward?"

"Of course not." Edward moved to my side. "I should thank you for taking care of her. If you're done drinking, hand Diana over to me. My family is waiting for her."

Edward's large hand rested on my shoulder.

David stared at Edward's hand, hesitated for a moment. "Not exactly done, but since you asked, I'll return Diana to you."

David stepped back, and Nolan retreated behind him.

Edward's hand pressed down on my shoulder, causing me to grimace in pain. "It hurts!"

David frowned and stepped forward. "You're hurting Diana!"

Albert stepped in front of David, forcing him to retreat.

David quickly adjusted his demeanor and said, "Edward, will you take it out on me elsewhere, or blame me for turning against you?"

Edward sneered, "I won't. I wouldn't do such a thing for someone not worth it. I value my reputation."

Edward carried me out of the room, and David clenched his fists behind him.
