Chapter 405 Fiona's Email
After Jeffrey left, I just stood there, frozen, my mind a complete blank. My emotions were a whirlwind of anger, disappointment, and confusion. Watching him walk away, I clenched my fists so tightly that my nails dug into my palms, trying to use the pain to calm myself down.
Suddenly, my phone started vibrating wildly in my bag, the shrill ringtone cutting through the silence. Annoyed, I glanced at the caller ID—it was Edward.
"Hey, Diana. You won't believe this. I just got an email from Fiona, and it's about Jeffrey. Things are looking really bad!"
Edward's anxious voice came through the receiver.
My heart sank. Jeffrey's scheming had already made things bad enough, and now Fiona was getting involved. How many more hidden plots were there?
Seeing that I wasn't responding, Edward added, "David got the email too. We all think something's off. How about we meet up to discuss this?"
After hanging up, I immediately decided to gather everyone in the conference room next to my office. Once everyone was seated, I broke the silence first, pouring out my frustrations about Jeffrey's scheming, my anger and worries, and the current complicated situation. I left out only one thing—Jeffrey's feelings for me.
Edward listened, his brow furrowed, fingers tapping lightly on the table. "I can't believe it. Jeffrey, who seemed so refined, is actually ruthless. We have no personal grudge against him, yet he's dragged us into his game. We can't just let him manipulate us like this. There must be a way to protect our companies and expose Nicholas and Fiona's conspiracy."
Lila frowned, deep in thought, before asking, "Did Fiona reveal anything specific in the email?"
David suddenly slammed his fist on the table, making the water in the cups nearly spill and startling all of us.
"This is outrageous! The Wilson family's real estate project has already been taken over and divided up by them, and now they want to kick me out completely! I won't stand for this. No matter how hard it is, I'm going to fight them to the end!"
Edward, looking serious, cleared his throat and began, "In the email, Fiona first revealed the complex web of interests between Jeffrey and Nicholas. Nicholas had long suspected that Anne and Jeffrey's relationship was more than it seemed, but he didn't expose Anne right away. He planned to use Anne and Jeffrey to bring us down so he could profit from it."
"Not only that," David continued, "Fiona mentioned that Nicholas intends to pin the blame for some of Anne's illegal operations in the project on us. If this comes to light, we could face huge fines, and the Wilson Group might even go bankrupt."
David opened the email attachments, displaying a series of images on the conference room screen.
"Look, these are some document screenshots she attached as evidence, clearly showing Jeffrey's signature and instructions. It looks like they're trying to push us to the brink so they can take over the entire industry without any obstacles."
"And what's worse," David added, "the email also mentioned that the strategy to take over the Wilson family's real estate project was Jeffrey's idea to Nicholas."
David's last sentence hit me like a bolt of lightning, shattering any remaining goodwill I had for Jeffrey. It was him? I couldn't believe it.
Lila kept clicking her pen, a habit she had when deep in thought. Suddenly, she slapped the pen on the table, her gaze shifting between all of us.
"We need to keep this email safe. Legally, this email is crucial evidence. We can use it to turn the tables on them."
She spread out the documents she had prepared to counter Nicholas and Fiona on the table.
Edward took a sip from his water cup, trying to calm his nerves. "It seems their plan is very meticulous, with each step linked to the next. If it weren't for Fiona's email, we might still be in the dark, and by the time we realized, it would be too late."
His eyes showed a mix of relief and concern for the uncertain future.
"But why would Fiona send you this email? Isn't she on Nicholas's side?" I asked, my curiosity piqued.
The room fell silent as everyone pondered this question. We all knew Fiona wouldn't help Edward or David without a reason. There had to be deeper conflicts or hidden interests at play.
Lila tilted her head slightly, her eyes full of thought, fingers tapping lightly on the edge of the documents.
"Regardless of her motives, this email is our chance to fight back."
Lila took a deep breath, her gaze firm as she looked around at us.
"Exactly. Our priority now is to assess our resources and strengths and come up with a feasible plan."
I pulled the documents Lila had organized towards me and quickly skimmed through them.
David, now calmer, leaned forward, his eyes scanning the screenshots on the screen. "I think Lila should avoid publicly participating in our actions to prevent further straining her relationship with Nicholas."
"Who cares? He can't do anything to me," Lila said nonchalantly, raising an eyebrow.
"We three can start with the evidence of Jeffrey's illegal operations. Lila, can you arrange for your law firm's team to help us evaluate the evidence's validity and see if we can use it to deliver a legal blow to them?" David continued, his eyes filled with determination.
Edward nodded in agreement. "That's a good idea. Also, we could use public opinion to our advantage. If we can guide the narrative and expose their misdeeds, it might disrupt Nicholas and Fiona's plans. This could be our chance to win."
He traced patterns on the table with his fingers, as if sketching out a strategy for a media campaign.
"Diana, I remember you used to do live streaming. Do you think this approach could work?"
"The method is fine, but we shouldn't expose ourselves directly. We can find someone else to do it for us," I replied.
