Chapter 185 David Confesses His Love

David, cool as a cucumber, didn't even flinch. The punch landed with a dull thud, snapping David's head to the side and making him stagger. Blood poured from his nose, dripping down his lips and chin, forming a small puddle on the ground.

But David didn't fight back. Instead, he just smiled faintly, a mix of stubbornness and calm acceptance on his face.

"Why didn't you dodge?" Edward yelled, his eyes blazing.

David stayed chill, like nothing happened, and laid out his terms. "You can hit me, but you should leave Diana alone."

Hearing that, I felt my heart skip a beat. David was taking all this for me. I felt a mix of sadness, gratitude, and a strange happiness. Tears welled up in my eyes, and I shouted, "David, why?"

"For you," David said firmly, his eyes locked on mine.

David's words cut Edward deep, fueling his anger. He lost it, raising his fist again and smashing it into David's cheek. David's face swelled, but Edward kept going, punch after punch, each one filled with rage and jealousy. The only sound was the dull thud of David taking the hits.

"How dare you go after my woman!" Edward's face twisted with rage. He'd never let anyone touch what was his. Now, David was challenging him, and it was over his wife. Even though Edward didn't love me, his possessiveness wouldn't let anyone get close.

Edward kept swinging until he was exhausted, then finally stopped. David never fought back. I rushed over, trembling, wiping the blood from his face. Through my sobs, I cried, "It's not worth it!"

David gently cupped my face, his eyes full of tenderness. "For you, anything is worth it." My heart felt heavy, and tears streamed down my face.

Edward sneered. "David, this is the second time you've taken a beating for Diana. You're really into her. But no matter how much you care, she's still been with me. If Mr. Wilson knew you were with a woman who'd been with me, would he approve?"

Edward's words stung, but he had a point. The Howard and Wilson families were big deals, and they wouldn't be thrilled about their kids marrying a divorced woman. I'd thought about this a lot, which is why I'd tried to push David away. I hoped that by giving back everything he'd given me, he'd move on. But he was stubborn.

David wiped the blood from his mouth, glaring at Edward. "This is our business, not yours. Diana, I'm taking you away." He grabbed my hand and led me out.

Once we were outside, I sighed in relief and pulled my hand away. "David, thanks for helping me out."

David looked at me, disbelief in his eyes. "Diana, I don't want your thanks. I want you. I used to protect you from a distance, but seeing you suffer made me realize what I really want."

His honesty left me speechless. I tried to deflect. "Edward's right. The Wilson family won't accept us. I don't want to make things hard for you or embarrass myself." I turned away.

But David was determined. He took my hand again. "Diana, I want to be with you. Believe me, I'll marry you. If my family doesn't agree, I'll cut ties with them. I've waited over ten years for you. I can't wait any longer. You don't have to agree now, but give me a chance."

His words left me conflicted. After a long pause, I sighed. "Okay, I'll give you a chance."

I didn't have high hopes. I figured he'd eventually see the obstacles and give up. Then we could go back to each other's life, without causing too much trouble for either of us. That seemed like the best outcome.

"Ms. Cooper, may I take you home now?" David asked, bowing slightly.

I jingled my car keys. "What about my car?"

David thought for a moment, then called someone. "Bring the car over."

Soon, his driver arrived with David's bright pink sports car. David walked up to the driver. "I want to take Ms. Cooper home myself."

The driver, puzzled, got out. "Mr. Wilson, how will I get back from this remote club?"

I couldn't help but feel a bit envious of David's relationship with his staff. They spoke to him as equals. David, who was so formidable in the outside world, was actually kind to his subordinates. If I were with him, life might be easier.

This thought startled me. I quickly patted my forehead. Diana, how could you think that? I warned myself: never entertain such thoughts again.
