Chapter 151 Diana, Let's Join Forces
"Lila, can you ask the caregiver to get me something to eat? I need to take care of myself and make sure the baby is safe," I told her firmly.
Seeing my spirits lift, Lila got all excited and quickly called the caregiver to get me some food.
As I choked down the bland hospital food, I could feel my strength slowly coming back.
The doctor came into the room, did a thorough check-up, and said with a serious look, "The baby's doing fine, but you're really weak. If you want to keep the baby and have a safe delivery, you need to be extra careful during the pregnancy."
This baby meant everything to me, and I silently vowed to follow the doctor's advice to ensure her safe arrival.
After two days in the hospital, my cold was mostly gone. The doctor gave me a bunch of meds to prevent a miscarriage and then arranged for me to go home.
Lila took me back to the apartment, and to my surprise, she pulled out two big suitcases from the car.
I looked at her, puzzled. "What's all this?"
Lila grinned and said, "It's a welcome gift."
Seeing my confusion, she explained, "Now that you're pregnant, you need someone to take care of you. Until Melissa gets here, I'll be the one. These suitcases are filled with gifts I got for your baby."
She opened the suitcases, and they were packed with adorable baby clothes, fluffy hats, tiny shoes, colorful toys, dolls, and all sorts of cute baby stuff. I knew these gifts were filled with Lila's love and hopes for my child.
I felt a warm glow inside, touched by her thoughtfulness but also a bit worried. "If you're taking care of me, what about your work at Stellar Legal Advisors?" I asked.
Lila waved it off. "Stellar Legal Advisors is doing great. All the cases are assigned, and it's no big deal if I'm not there. We even took on a new case yesterday. At this rate, I might become a supervisor who doesn't even need to work."
Hearing the good news about Stellar Legal Advisors, I felt a lot more relaxed and happy. I had been worried about affecting their work, but seeing things back on track made me genuinely happy for Lila.
Watching Lila bustling around the house, I felt a warmth in my heart, like a beautiful future was calling us.
To avoid any accidents, I only told Lila and Daisy about my pregnancy.
The days of resting at home were easy but kind of boring. Within a few days, I noticed I had gained some weight, and my once flat belly had a slight bump.
I thought life would continue peacefully like this, but out of nowhere, Anne came back into my life.
One day, she mysteriously asked to meet me at a dessert shop that was in a busy mall, surrounded by people. I figured that in such a public place, even if Anne was usually bold, she wouldn’t dare harm me. So, I agreed to meet. But I was still puzzled: why did she want to see me? This question lingered in my mind like a fog.
As soon as I sat down, Anne blurted out angrily, "Diana, do you know Aria is pregnant?"
I was a bit taken aback. I figured Anne, being so in-the-know, would have already heard about it, but it seemed she was still in the dark.
I kept my cool, wanting to see where she was going with this. So, I played dumb and asked, "Aria is pregnant? Does she have a boyfriend?"
Seeing my reaction, Anne relaxed a bit and gave me a disdainful look. "Diana, you're so naive. I warned you before that Aria has her eye on Edward. The baby she's carrying is Edward's."
"How can you be so sure?" I frowned, trying to dig deeper.
"She told me herself that she's carrying Edward's child," Anne said confidently.
I nodded and asked, "Didn't you say they were going to do IVF? How did she get pregnant so quickly?"
"That's not the case at all," Anne stomped her foot in frustration. "They didn't do IVF because Aria was already pregnant and didn't need it."
Hearing this, I froze, my hand halfway to picking up a small cake.
"What do you mean by that?" I looked at her with wide eyes.
Anne snorted, full of sarcasm, "You're so naive. Didn't you find it strange when Edward promised to take you on a honeymoon to the island?"
"Why?" I felt a pang of anxiety, remembering how odd it was when Edward suggested the honeymoon.
"Because Aria was on the island too," Anne said smugly, like she had just revealed a huge secret.
I looked at her in disbelief and asked, "Didn't you say she was studying in Veridian? How could she be on that island?"
Anne explained slowly, "Veridian is so close to that island. Edward must have told her you were going there, so she followed. No wonder Edward didn't want to take me. And you know what? Edward came back several days earlier than you, with her. She might have already seduced Edward by then."
Anne spoke with such certainty, but I had my doubts. I had known Edward for nearly 20 years and understood him well. He had always been emotionally distant, so how could he have fallen for Aria so easily?
I looked at Anne and asked, "Who told you all this?"
Anne responded proudly, "No one needed to tell me. I figured it out myself."
So it was all her own speculation. Hearing this, I felt a sense of relief. Compared to Anne's baseless guesses, I preferred to believe what Hayden had told me.
Anne said, "Diana, I came to you today to tell you that we must join forces now, or else Aria will take over the Howard family."
I couldn't help but laugh. "Clara and Hayden are still around. How could it ever come to that?"
"But who knows what the future holds?" Anne said. She rarely talked about the future, which surprised me. Her thoughts, however, were so sinister, already plotting against Clara and Hayden.
Seeing my lack of reaction, she became angry. "Diana, you better face reality. Joining forces with me is your only option. Once Aria's baby is born, it will be too late."
I didn't want to get tangled up with Anne any longer, so I made an excuse about needing to go to the traffic department to handle an accident and left. In fact, I did need to go to the traffic department. My car, which had crashed into the greenbelt, was still waiting to be dealt with.
