Chapter 275 A Frightening but Safe Experience

The blaring siren of an ambulance yanked me out of my sleep.

I blinked my eyes open, still groggy, and realized I was on a stretcher. Doctors and nurses were all around me, their faces serious as they rushed me down the hospital hallway, telling me to stay awake.

Edward was right there, gripping my hand tightly. His hand was shaking a bit as he whispered anxiously, "Diana, hang in there. The doctors will take care of you soon!"

I wanted to ask what happened, but no sound came out when I tried to speak.

Soon, they wheeled me into the emergency room.

A nurse turned to Edward and said, "Family members have to wait outside."

As the doors to the emergency room slowly closed, Edward's figure disappeared from view.

Then I felt various machines and tubes being quickly connected to my body.

I heard the doctor say, "There are signs of bleeding. If it worsens, be ready for an emergency C-section."

A wave of anxiety hit me. My baby wasn't due yet, and I was scared I might not be able to keep him safe. But I was too weak to do anything except follow the doctors' orders.

Outside the emergency room, Edward's face was pale, clearly still in shock from everything that had happened.

The clock at the nurse's station ticked loudly, echoing in the quiet hallway. Edward kept glancing at the frosted glass doors of the emergency room, trying to see inside. But the glass was too opaque, revealing nothing. Each time, he turned away in disappointment, his frown deepening as sweat trickled down his face and soaked his collar.

Suddenly, hurried footsteps echoed from the other end of the hallway.

It was Lila.

She had rushed over as soon as she heard I was in the hospital. Lucas followed closely behind, carrying her bag.

Lila quickly reached Edward, grabbing his collar and demanding loudly, "Edward, what did you do to Diana? How is she now?"

Edward was much taller than Lila, but he didn't resist, letting her push him against the wall. Suddenly, he felt a tightness in his chest and began to gasp for air.

Feeling Edward's distress, Lucas stepped forward and tried to pull Lila away. He said, "Lila, calm down. Let's hear what he has to say."

However, Lila was filled with rage and had no intention of letting go. She stared at Edward with icy eyes, as if she wanted to see right through him.

Edward felt uneasy under Lila's intense stare and couldn't bring himself to meet her gaze.

"Tell me what happened!" Lila demanded angrily.

Edward's lips trembled as he stammered, "I—I really don't know what went wrong. My body just began to tremble uncontrollably, and I couldn't hold onto the steering wheel. I did everything I could to safeguard Diana and the baby. I'm so sorry; it's all my fault."

"Enough!" Lila shouted, yanking Edward's tie, her teeth clenched. "As long as Diana and the baby are safe, that's all that matters. But if anything happens to them, I won't be able to forgive you!" With that, she let go abruptly.Caught off guard, Edward tripped and hit the ground.

I drifted in and out of consciousness, the beeping of machines blending into a foggy background. After what felt like an eternity, I vaguely heard someone say, "The patient is stable now."

I felt the bed shift beneath me, like someone was adjusting it.

The emergency room doors swung open, and Edward, Lila, and Lucas rushed in. The doctor looked at them seriously and said, "We've done everything we could. The patient is now out of immediate danger, and her vital signs are stable."

"What about the baby? How is the baby?" Edward asked, his voice trembling.

The doctor glanced at Edward and said slowly, "The fetus is currently stable, but due to the impact and her heightened stress levels, her body is quite weak and needs proper care. We will closely monitor the condition of the fetus, and if necessary, we may have to consider an early delivery."

Edward felt a mix of relief and anxiety upon hearing this. Tears filled his eyes, and his hands shook as he reached for mine, murmuring, "Diana, thank God you're okay."

He then turned to the doctor, saying gratefully, "Thank you for saving my wife and baby."

The doctor smiled and nodded, saying, "The patient needs rest now. Please try not to disturb her too much."

At that moment, I turned my head away, not wanting to look at Edward.

Lila quickly noticed my reaction and pushed Edward aside, saying, "You're not needed here. Don't get in the way."

With that, Lila and a nurse wheeled me into a room.

Gradually, I began to regain some strength.

Lila sat by my bedside, holding my hand tightly, her eyes filled with concern and fear. She said, "Diana, you really scared me this time. When I heard you were rushed to the hospital, I couldn't stop worrying. I was filled with terrible thoughts, fearing the worst for you and the baby."

She took a deep breath, trying to calm herself, and continued, "Thank God you and the baby are safe. But you have to promise me that you'll take better care of yourself from now on."

Lucas stood nearby, gently stroking Lila's back with concern, softly saying, "Lila, don't worry too much. Diana and the baby are fine, and that's the best outcome we could hope for. Now that Diana is safe, we should focus on being happy."

Hearing this, Lila nodded slightly, but her emotions overwhelmed her, and tears streamed down her face.

Days quietly slipped away as I wove through a mixture of fear and hope.

I lay in the hospital bed, staring out the window, my mind preoccupied with worries.

One day, Theo, who hadn't come by in a while, came to visit me.

I noticed a faint, almost imperceptible smile on Theo's lips and asked directly, "Theo, is there something you're not telling me?"
