Chapter 331 See You in Court!

I found myself absentmindedly staring at the cute teddy bear Lila had given me, feeling a whirlwind of emotions. I gently stroked the bear's ear, thinking about how much Skylar adored Anne.

Memories of all the things Anne had done to hurt me and the Howard family flashed through my mind. I definitely didn't want Skylar to be in danger.

But I also knew that if Anne hadn't taken Skylar, it would've been even more dangerous for a little girl to wander alone in the slums at night. Maybe it was this rescue in a moment of crisis that made Skylar trust Anne so much. If I insisted on separating Skylar from Anne, would that be another kind of harm to Skylar?

I didn't want Skylar to have an irreparable childhood regret because of this. Besides, Skylar only had Melissa and me to take care of her. If there was one more person to love Skylar, wouldn't that be a good thing?

With the cute teddy bear and these heavy thoughts, I headed back to the Cooper Group.

As soon as I stepped into the company, I sensed something was off. For some reason, my colleagues were all in high spirits, their faces beaming with happiness.

A few young employees hurried past with documents in hand. When they saw me, they immediately stopped and greeted me in unison, "Good morning, Ms. Cooper!" I nodded slightly in response, but my mood remained heavy, not lifted by their greetings. Instead, a sense of foreboding lingered in my mind.

As soon as I walked into my office, my new assistant Amy followed me in, her face full of excitement.

She exclaimed, "Ms. Cooper, I have good news! The batch of goods that was held up at customs has been successfully shipped out. If there are no issues during transport, it should reach the buyer today."

I looked at Amy's elated expression, but I couldn't muster any joy.

Amy, always perceptive, quickly noticed my unusual demeanor. Her bright smile froze, and she asked softly, "Ms. Cooper, aren't you happy about this news?"

I frowned, pondering for a while before slowly speaking, "I feel like something's off. Think back carefully, when we first had issues with this batch of goods, we couldn't reach the buyer no matter how hard we tried. Did you eventually get in touch with them?"

Amy tilted her head, recalling, then smiled again, "Yes, we did. I remember clearly, we got in touch with the person in charge through a junior employee at their company. They were very straightforward, saying they still wanted the goods and never rushed us."

I thought for a moment, then nodded slowly, "It's very unusual for such a large order to be delayed without the buyer urging us. There might be other issues hidden. Keep a close eye on them."

Amy's smile vanished instantly, and she said worriedly, "Ms. Cooper, now that you mention it, I feel something's wrong too. But the goods are already shipped and about to reach the buyer. What should we do?"I stood up, my eyes landing on the teddy bear sitting on the sofa. Looking at it, I silently hoped it might spark some inspiration to solve this mess.

After a moment, I turned to Amy. "We need to be ready on two fronts: keep a close watch on the transportation to make sure the goods arrive safely, and quickly gather all our previous communications with the buyer, like emails and call records, to see if there's anything fishy. We need to figure out if they're really serious about doing business with us."

"Got it, Ms. Cooper. I'll get right on it." Amy nodded and turned to get things moving.

Just as she was about to leave, she almost bumped into Theo, who looked flustered.

Theo was usually calm and composed, rarely showing such panic. Even Amy was startled by his appearance.

Theo, panting and anxious, said, "Diana, something's wrong! The goods we shipped overseas have run into trouble again."

I felt a sinking sensation in my heart, bracing for bad news. I quickly asked, "What happened? Is the buyer refusing to accept the goods?"

Theo frowned deeply, shaking his head repeatedly. "If the buyer refused to accept, we'd only lose the shipping cost. But now, the buyer has accepted the goods but is refusing to pay the balance."

"Why is that?" I was full of confusion.

Theo sighed, "Because our delivery was delayed beyond the agreed time, they claim we've caused them significant financial loss. Not only are they refusing to pay, but they're also threatening to sue us."

"This is unbelievable!" I felt the world spinning at the news.

After a moment, I calmed down from the shock and anger. I remarked, "Check their contact information immediately. I need to speak with them personally."

Theo, aware of the urgency, promptly sent me the contact details.

I wasted no time dialing the number.

The phone rang for a long time, but no one answered.

Unwilling to give up, I dialed again. This time, the call was finally answered.

As soon as the call connected, I introduced myself, "Hello, this is Diana from the Cooper Group. We have a shipment that arrived at your company today. I was wondering..."

Before I could finish, a cold voice interrupted, "You delayed the delivery, causing us significant losses. According to the contract, you must bear the responsibility."

I quickly explained, "Our goods were delayed at customs due to unforeseen circumstances, not our fault. We tried to maintain contact with your company throughout, but couldn't reach the relevant person initially. Even so, your company later agreed to accept the shipment. Why the sudden change now?"

The other party remained unmoved, responding coldly, "We don't care about the reasons for the delay. The result is that you've caused us losses. There's no room for negotiation. See you in court!" With that, he hung up.
