Chapter 235 Fiona
Edward gently let go of me, cupping my face in his hands and softly stroking my hair. His eyes were a storm of emotions. Before I could say anything, he pressed his lips urgently against mine.
The familiar scent and touch spread between my lips and teeth.
The Edward before me wasn't the man I once loved deeply, but it seemed like he was trying to start anew with me.
At first, the kiss was forceful. I opened my eyes wide, startled by his impulsiveness, and instinctively tried to resist, placing my hands lightly on his chest.
But soon, I felt his movements become gentler, and the pressure of his hands softened. I stopped struggling and instead, slowly wrapped my arms around his neck.
After a while, he pulled away, his eyes full of guilt. He gently stroked my hair and whispered, "Diana, I'm sorry. I can't live without you. As long as you stay by my side, I'll give you anything."
As he spoke, Edward reached out and slowly undressed me.
The warm yellow light softly illuminated every corner, wrapping the entire space in a gentle glow. The light cast Edward's shadow on the wall as he moved over me.
After a quick, intense moment, Edward lay on top of me, whispering in my ear. "Diana, it's so good to have you. Thank you."
My fingers traced Edward's back as I pulled the blanket over him and softly said, "Sleep now."
Soon, I heard Edward's steady, even breathing beside me, but I couldn't sleep all night.
Was David really getting married? I decided to drop everything and visit David in the hospital.
The next morning, I rushed into the hospital room and saw David lying in bed, his face pale. My eyes instantly filled with tears.
I quickly walked to his bedside, my voice trembling. "David, why are you so foolish? You've done so much for me and never told me anything."
David managed a weak smile and softly said, "Diana, there are some things I didn't want you to worry about. You have so much ahead of you."
Just as I was about to speak, the door to the room suddenly opened, and a beautiful girl walked in. Her appearance made me pause, and I noticed a fleeting look of unease in David's eyes.
Yet Fiona seemed oblivious to my presence. She sat familiarly by David's bed, picked up a fruit knife from the table, and began peeling an apple with practiced elegance.
She tilted her head slightly, looking at David, and softly said, "I'm sorry I'm late. There was some traffic. How are you feeling today?"
Her tone was as if they were intimate partners who spent every day together.
A wave of inexplicable bitterness surged in my heart. I looked at David, already knowing the answer but still couldn't help asking. "Who is she?"
David's face showed a hint of embarrassment. He avoided my gaze and stammered, "Diana, this is..."
Fiona looked up, a faint smile on her lips as she addressed me. "You must be Diana. David talks about you often, saying you're very capable and outstanding." Her words seemed polite, but there was an underlying tone that made me uncomfortable.
I frowned slightly and asked, "Really? What has he told you?" I tried to keep my cool, but my voice still had a bit of an edge to it.
Fiona chuckled lightly, dodging my question. Instead, she handed David the peeled apple. "Eat this. It's good for your recovery."
David hesitated, glancing at me, but eventually took a bite. Memories of David and me feeding each other flashed through my mind, and my eyes welled up.
Fiona stood up and walked over to me, a subtle challenge in her eyes. She said, "Diana, don't get the wrong idea. David and I are together because of our families. I do admire you."
Her words made me tremble with anger. I glared at her and turned to David. "David, think carefully about this." With that, I left the room without looking back.
David made a weak attempt to rise, but Fiona stopped him. "Don't," she said softly, her touch gentle but firm. "You're not well. Stay here. I'll go." David leaned back against the headboard, pain and frustration clouding his eyes.
Fiona approached me, a faint smile on her face that didn't reach her eyes. She said, "Diana, our wedding is set for Valentine's Day. We'll be moving to Ignis, but the wedding will be held here."
I felt a surge of disgust looking at Fiona's smiling face. "That's your business. I don't need to know," I said.
Yet Fiona leaned closer to my ear and whispered, "I know David has special feelings for you. He wants you to attend our wedding. We'll send you an invitation."
I replied, "How could he let you tell me this? We're no longer connected."
My heart ached intensely, and I clenched my fists to control my emotions.
Fiona raised her chin slightly, a hint of arrogance in her eyes. She said, "David has told me everything about you two. Why make things difficult for yourself? David values his past feelings and wants to end things properly. You should know that I'm the one by his side now, and I will be in the future."
I felt a pang of doubt and retorted, "He pursued me for over ten years and gave up so much for me. How could he decide to marry you so easily?"
Hearing this, Fiona laughed coldly. "In the face of reality, what does love matter? David knows what he wants, and it's not you. This marriage is just a family arrangement. There's no real affection between us. Besides, I'll have a special surprise for you at the wedding. Are you sure you won't come?"
I turned away from Fiona, looking out the window. "No matter what surprise you have, I won't attend the wedding. I can't watch him marry someone else. Tell him I wish you both happiness and from now on, we'll go our separate ways."
With that, I walked away, my heart aching fiercely. This relationship was over, and I couldn't save it, leaving me filled with sorrow.
I stumbled through the hallway, and in my haste, I bumped into someone. Looking up, I saw it was Edward.
Edward, with his keen perception, sensed my emotions. In a low voice tinged with an emotion I couldn't quite place, he asked, "You know everything?"
"Yes." I nodded softly, tears streaming down my face and soaking the collar of my coat.
"It's good to know," Edward said, meeting my gaze. "At least you can finally move on."
He continued, "I have a meeting at the company today. Once it's over, I'll help you reclaim the Cooper Group shares."
