Chapter 216 Beautiful Wishes
Aria kept waving her hands and said, "Edward, look at them flaunting their love; they're not giving you any chance at all."
After that, she straightened Edward's tie, put on a fake loving look, grabbed his hand, and whispered in his ear, "But hey, it's fine. You still have me. If she won't take your investment, you can invest in me instead."
If accepting David's proposal was the final nail in Edward's coffin, then Aria's words were like twisting the knife.
Edward leaned back, his voice cold, and said, "You'll regret this. Mark my words." With that, he turned and walked towards the car.
Before I could react, the car had already sped off, leaving just a blur behind. Watching Edward drive away, Aria spun around and stood where he had just been.
She crossed her arms, glared at me with a hint of resentment, and asked, "You and he are already divorced. Why are you still hanging on to him? If it weren't for you, he might have accepted me long ago."
I looked back at her and calmly said, "Whether he accepts you or not is between you and him, it has nothing to do with me."
Then I leaned close to Aria's ear, lowered my voice, and slowly reminded her, "If you want him to invest in you, instead of arguing with me here, you should think about how to win his heart."
I then turned and took David's hand, ready to leave.
From behind me, Aria's determined cry rang out, "One day, I'll take not only Edward but everything the Howard family owns!"
I frowned slightly, finding her rather ridiculous. With a casual flick of my wrist over my shoulder, I replied without turning, "Then you'd better work hard."
I didn't really want to wish Aria well, but if she could actually win over Edward, he wouldn't bother me anymore, which would be a win for me.
Later, David and I went back to my small apartment, and this time I didn't refuse to let him in.
As the door closed, David lowered his head slightly, his eyes filled with passion and affection, slowly moving closer to me.
His breath gently brushed my cheek, carrying a hint of warmth and urgency. When his lips touched mine, it was first a gentle test, like a feather lightly brushing, then gradually increased in intensity. His hands slowly wrapped around my waist, pulling me towards him.
I tilted my head slightly, responding to his kiss, feeling the warmth and softness of his lips. Our breaths gradually intertwined, and our heartbeats seemed to sync up. In the tender kiss, I couldn't help but laugh.
David picked me up and spun around the room before placing me on the sofa. He was a bit excited and said, "Diana, I finally have the chance to truly be with you. During this time, my biggest motivation at work was this moment."
I eagerly asked him, "Did you achieve the goals set by your family?"
David snapped his fingers and replied, "Of course, not only did I achieve them, but I also exceeded them ahead of schedule. So, I have the capital to invest in the TV show for you. But this is also part of my business expansion."
Seeing David so pumped, I couldn't help but feel happy too. We cuddled on the sofa for a bit, and I started to feel sleepy.
I yawned and stood up. "I'm gonna take a shower, you..." Before I could finish, David excitedly said, "I'll wait for you."
I nodded and headed to the bathroom.
Not wanting to kill David's vibe, I hurried through my shower and then urged him to take his. I didn't have any men's pajamas, so David had to wear my bathrobe after his shower.
The bathrobe didn't fit him well, hanging loosely on his broad shoulders. The belt was tied around his waist, but a large part of his chest was still exposed, with his firm abs faintly visible through the opening. Water droplets slowly slid down his neck, across his collarbone, and into the robe.
His hair was still slightly damp, with a few strands hanging casually over his forehead. His eyes showed a hint of nervousness and shyness. He avoided direct eye contact with me, his feet shuffling uneasily, occasionally sneaking a glance at me before quickly looking away.
We lay on the bed together, our breaths and heartbeats clearly audible, making me feel a bit awkward. Although I wasn't a stranger to sharing a bed with a man, lying beside me was David, who had silently protected me for years.
David turned over and gently held me in his arms, his breath on my ear making my heart tremble slightly.
"I've been looking forward to this day for so long," David said, a hint of complaint in his voice. "But finally," he added, as if reassuring himself, "I made it."
I didn't say anything, just quietly nestling in his arms, enjoying this rare moment of warmth. I wished time could stop so I could stay with him quietly, doing nothing. However beautiful the wish, it remained elusive.
The next morning, when I woke up, I found the spot beside me empty. I reached out to touch the cold mattress, full of confusion, not knowing where David, who had held me in his arms last night, had gone.
I called David's phone, but it was still busy, just like many times before. The flicker of hope in my heart died instantly. Was there truly no chance for us? I desperately wanted to believe otherwise, but I had no idea where David was.
A commotion in the hallway caught my attention.
I opened the door, full of curiosity, and saw David and his father, Daniel, standing in the hallway, surrounded by a few uniformed men.
David had already changed into his crisp suit, standing tall but with a tense expression, silently standing behind Daniel. Daniel's face was full of anger, his brows furrowed, and his eyes seemed to be burning with rage.
I quickly bowed slightly to Daniel and greeted him politely, "Mr. Wilson, hello."
But Daniel ignored me and strode towards David's apartment.
Before David entered the apartment, I approached him and asked softly, "What's going on?"
David lowered his head slightly, sighed, his face full of frustration and helplessness, and said slowly, "Edward told my father about last night, and now my father is furious, insisting that I sell this apartment."
I widened my eyes in surprise and asked, "Why?"
David slowly raised his head, his eyes firmly meeting mine, as if giving himself courage. He said, "Diana, no matter what, I will marry you."
