Chapter 105 Anne Killed Edward
Just as I was lost in thought, Anne barged into the room, yelling, "Diana Cooper, you're here! Great. I begged Edward for ages to bring me here, but he brought you instead!"
Her face was red with anger. In all the years I'd been married to Edward, she'd never shown me any respect, but it was rare for her to call me by my full name.
This hotel was super fancy, no surprise since it was owned by the Howard Group. Considering how much Edward spoiled his sister, it was hard to believe he hadn't brought her here before. But I didn't have time to think about that as Anne stormed towards me, knocking over the plates on the table.
The plates crashed to the ground, food and utensils flying everywhere, making a huge mess. The room's atmosphere instantly turned tense. I looked at her, terrified and uneasy. Her eyes were full of anger and jealousy, like she saw me as her enemy.
I tried to calm down and figure out how to handle the situation. But her fury consumed her entirely. She kept advancing, forcing me to retreat instinctively.
I felt helpless and scared. I had no idea why Anne was so out of control or what she might do next. Too much had happened today, and the alcohol I'd consumed earlier clouded my thoughts. I could only stare at Anne, hoping she'd calm down and not make things worse.
Suddenly, Anne grabbed a steak knife from the floor and started waving it around, stepping closer to me. She screamed, "Diana, what did you say to Edward? Now he wants to send me abroad!"
It hit me then that Edward had said he already sent Anne abroad.
I took a deep breath and said coldly, "Aren't you supposed to be gone? Why are you still here?"
I thought maybe Edward was lying to me again. But looking at Anne, I felt she didn't seem to be acting. I shook my head, trying to figure out what was going on between them.
I watched Anne warily, retreating under the threat of her waving knife, almost backed into a corner. Then she started crying. "I knew it, Edward would rather have you than me."
She saw the diamond ring on my hand and started laughing through her tears. "Diana, you foolish woman. Edward gave you that ring, do you know what it means?" she shouted.
Anne called me a foolish woman, but right now, she looked more like a madwoman. Her words were all over the place, leaving me completely confused about what she was trying to say.
Pressed into the corner, I felt my heart pound so fiercely, fear consuming me. I didn't know how to deal with the out-of-control Anne in front of me or what crazy thing she might do next. The room was so tense it felt like the air had turned solid.
Anne seemed to make a decision, screaming at the top of her lungs, "If I can't have Edward, neither can you!" She then lunged at me with the knife.
"Diana, watch out!" A familiar voice came from the doorway. I instinctively looked up to see Edward rushing into the room, and in a flash, he was between me and Anne.
The knife Edward had just used to cut steak was now stuck in his side. The sharp blade had pierced his body. I stared in horror at the scene before me, my mind blank, as if the whole world had stopped turning.
Anne was also stunned by the sudden turn of events; the knife fell from her hand as her face filled with terror and confusion. The room was filled with a tense and terrifying atmosphere. It felt like my heart was being squeezed by an invisible giant hand, making it impossible to breathe.
Edward instinctively reached to cover his abdomen, his face turning pale in an instant. Soon, bright red blood gushed out, soaking his shirt and flowing through his fingers. I frantically supported him, helping him slowly sit against the wall. At that moment, the butler, servants, and bodyguards, hearing the commotion, rushed in.
The butler hurriedly called for help and then ordered his men to restrain Anne. However, Anne had already picked up the knife again and was wildly swinging it at the bodyguards. Although the bodyguards wanted to control her, none of them were willing to risk their lives against her weapon.
At that moment, Anne's makeup was long ruined by her tears, with streaks of tears and snot smeared across her face. She looked utterly disheveled, like a deranged madwoman. Her eyes reflected a mix of despair and insanity, as if she had fallen into an inescapable abyss, evoking both fear and pity in those who saw her.
"I killed Edward," she screamed, waving the knife frantically. "Mom will blame me, and Dad will kick me out. Ever since Mom and I joined the Howard family, she hasn't loved me. She only loves Edward. Dad gives her a luxurious life..."
Anne sobbed incoherently. I never expected that a girl like Anne, who grew up in a sheltered and pampered environment, could have such a sensitive and fragile side. Indeed, there was no easy entry into a wealthy family. Even couples like Hayden and Clara, who seemed loving, had to tread carefully to protect themselves.
I used to think Mia had become callous and unfeeling for the sake of the Cooper Group that Mason left behind, but then I realized Clara was the truly tough one. She constantly hurt her daughter for her own marital happiness. Thinking of this, I suddenly felt less hatred for Anne; after all, she had been a pitiable girl too.
"If Edward dies, I won't live either." My thoughts were suddenly shattered by Anne's cries. She plunged the knife into her own abdomen and collapsed in front of me. The butler and servants were terrified by this sudden turn of events, paralyzed with indecision over whether to save Edward or Anne first.
I clutched Edward's hand tightly, as if it were my only anchor in this chaotic situation, while using my other hand to press firmly on his wound. His blood flowed relentlessly, staining my white dress like a blooming flower—vividly bright, yet blindingly stark.
The crimson spread across the fabric, creating a cruel yet hauntingly beautiful scene, tightening my heart with fear and helplessness that washed over me like a tide. The air around us seemed to solidify, filled only by Anne's cries and Edward's faint breathing echoing in my ears.
