Chapter 111 The Last Day at the Cooper Group

"Hey there!" I quickly hit the answer button.

"Hey, Ms. Cooper. Can I still call you that?" Theo's voice caught me off guard.

I cleared my throat and said, "What's up, Theo?"

"Ms. Cooper, I need your help with something."

I didn't know Theo all that well, but I knew he was a top-notch secretary. I had a pretty good idea of what he needed help with.

"Sure, I can help you out," I replied.

Theo's tone brightened up. "Ms. Cooper, where are you now? I'll come to you."

"No need, I'm heading back to the office. Just wait for me there," I said.

"Okay," Theo agreed.

Just as I was about to hang up, Theo called out again, "Ms. Cooper."

"Yeah?" I put the phone back to my ear.

"Well, yesterday morning Mr. Howard came to the office and had the shareholders sign the stock transfer agreement. That's why I was so anxious to find you. You won't blame me, will you?"

I was genuinely surprised that Theo was still worried about my feelings.

I used a light tone. "No, I should be thanking you. We'll talk more when I get to the office." With that, I hung up, my mind already clear.

My thoughts drifted to yesterday's court session. Edward had promised to come see me, and it turned out he was late because he went to the Cooper Group to get the shareholders to sign the stock transfer agreement. He was always quietly taking care of everything for me.

Theo was probably feeling the heat from those who had signed the equity transfer agreements. I took a deep breath and started the car. The road was pretty empty, and the sunlight streaming through the window warmed my face. I gripped the steering wheel tightly, my eyes fixed ahead. In about ten minutes, I arrived at the Cooper Group building. The security guard, maybe not knowing I wouldn't be the owner much longer, still respectfully parked my car. His face had a professional smile as he skillfully directed my car into the parking space. Watching the security guard's serious demeanor, I couldn't help but feel a twinge of emotion.

I originally planned to take the executive elevator straight to my office, but then I decided to see how the regular employees would react to me, so I took the regular elevator. There weren't many people in the elevator, and everyone was silent, the atmosphere a bit tense. I stood in the corner, feeling a bit uneasy. When the elevator doors opened, I walked out and passed through the open office area, hearing some people whispering. The voices were faint. I strained to hear what they were saying but could only catch bits and pieces.

However, when they saw me, they immediately nodded and greeted me respectfully with professional smiles. But their eyes showed a hint of curiosity and confusion. During my time at the Cooper Group, even though I didn't visit often, the company's performance had improved a lot. These employees naturally had no complaints about me, and their respectful greetings were expected. I nodded slightly, responding to their greetings, but couldn't help feeling a bit conflicted inside.

When I reached the CEO's office, Theo was already waiting at the door. His face showed signs of anxiety, but when he saw me, a flicker of joy appeared in his eyes. He quickly stepped forward to open the office door for me, his actions cautious, like he was welcoming a distinguished guest. "Come on in."

Not wanting to waste any time, I motioned for him to enter. I slowly walked over to the chair Mia had left behind and sat down, looking calmly at Theo. "Have you made up your mind?" I asked.

Theo nodded seriously. "Ms. Cooper, I've made up my mind. Honestly, I should have left a long time ago." He gave a bitter smile and chuckled softly. "If I don't leave now, things are going to get really tough for me."

We didn't need to say much to understand each other. I took the resignation letter Theo handed me and signed it without hesitation. "Mr. Nelson, can I call you that?" I asked softly.

Theo seemed a bit uneasy with the title. His eyes lingered on the resignation letter before slowly shifting to my face, his mouth twitching slightly. "Ms. Cooper..." he began.

"Call me Diana. You're no longer an employee of the Cooper Group, and soon I won't be the CEO either. I'll hand over the signed stock transfer agreements to everyone shortly, and from then on, the Cooper Group will have nothing to do with me." With that, I stood up slowly and walked to the floor-to-ceiling window, quietly looking outside. A dark cloud, like a rising tide, slowly enveloped the entire sky. Raindrops began to fall, pattering against the glass.

"The weather is changing," I murmured softly, then sighed lightly.

The atmosphere was indeed a bit melancholic. Theo gently comforted me, "Diana, you don't need to be too sad. I believe that as long as you want, you can always regain control of the Cooper Group."

I nodded slightly. "Maybe one day. But seeing how hard my parents worked, I think being a lawyer is pretty good. What about you? Any plans?"

Theo's face instantly lit up. "The compensation from the Cooper Group is quite substantial. I plan to spend some quality time with my family. Take my wife and kids on a trip, spend time with my parents, and do things I wanted to do but never had the time for. Now that I have the time, I can also look for suitable projects to invest in."

I nodded again, acknowledging that the severance package from the Cooper Group was indeed generous. By average standards, Theo's family could live very well for the rest of their lives even if he never worked again. "Since you're interested in investing, why didn't you take over my shares?" I couldn't help but ask out of curiosity.

Theo shook his head. "I was originally the secretary working for your parents. I had seen how those people bullied your mother, and it made me really angry. I often confronted them as the CEO's secretary, so after she left, every day here was tough for me. Otherwise, I wouldn't have been in such a hurry to resign."

"If I regain control of the Cooper Group in the future, would you be willing to assist me?" I didn't know why I blurted out such a question.

Theo laughed heartily and said, "Diana, as long as you're willing, I'll always be by your side. After all, I watched the Cooper Group grow step by step. Leaving now, I do feel a bit reluctant."

I nodded. "Today is your last day at the Cooper Group, and it's also my last day. Go ahead and gather the shareholders for a meeting."
