Chapter 120 The Woman Who Handle Anne
Anne's eyes glinted with a touch of malice as she said coolly, "If I got rid of her once, I can do it again. You don't need to stress about that. Just make sure Aria doesn't get pregnant."
"Easy for you to say. She and Edward are doing IVF, and everything's under the doctor's watch. How am I supposed to mess with that?" I frowned, thinking Anne was talking nonsense.
"Getting pregnant is one thing; keeping the baby is another,” Anne said ominously. She didn't spell out her plan, but I got the hint—she wanted me to find a way to make Aria miscarry. My face grew serious, filled with conflict and unease.
"This is wrong. Don't you feel guilty?" I asked, feeling ashamed of Anne's idea.
"Of course not. Anyone who stands in my way gets eliminated." Anne laughed wildly, her smile like an evil flower blooming, her eyes flashing with cruelty. She paused and then said, "I think you know my methods." With that, Anne leaned back against the pillow, crossing her arms over her chest, looking like she had everything under control.
Her smile was still so bright, but it sent chills down my spine.
"You're a complete lunatic." I trembled with anger, my eyes wide, teeth clenched, my face pale. I stood up abruptly and walked out of the hospital room, my steps heavy and hurried.
Just as I was about to leave the room, Anne's cold voice rang out again, "Diana, you better think it through. If you don't cooperate with me, you'll be the next one to suffer. I mean what I say, so don't regret it."
I didn't understand why my life had become so chaotic lately. It felt like I was gradually developing a tougher spirit.
Today's hospital visit was far from fruitless; in fact, it was quite revealing. Now I understood the Howard family's plan, and my next step was to figure out how to protect myself. I would never harm others, but I also wouldn't let anyone trample on me. I frowned slightly, my eyes showing determination, silently vowing to find a proper solution to protect myself.
I checked the time; it was almost noon. I hurried to the law firm, as Lila had invited me to lunch. In the afternoon, we were going to pick up our mutual friend Daisy, who had been living abroad and was finally coming back today.
Back in the day, Lila, Daisy, and I were classmates, all studying law. After graduation, Lila continued to be a lawyer, while I gave up my career for love and married the scumbag Edward. Daisy, on the other hand, took a different path and became a foreign correspondent. I didn't know how well she did her job, but she was an absolute pro at gossiping. She knew everything about what I went through domestically and often conspired with Lila to help me. Now that she was finally coming back, with her abilities, she would surely be able to handle Anne.
After a quick lunch, Lila and I arrived at the airport early. The airport was bustling, but the noise didn't affect my excitement.
I kept checking the time and looking towards the arrival gate, anxiously waiting for Daisy to appear. As the flight information showed that Daisy's plane had landed, my heart raced. I kept my eyes glued to the arrival gate, afraid I would miss her. Lila, smiling, gently patted my shoulder and said, "Don't worry, Daisy will be out soon."
I nodded, but my eyes couldn't leave the arrival gate. Finally, in the crowd, I spotted a familiar figure. Daisy, dragging her suitcase and rocking sunglasses, looked as carefree as ever.
I waved my hands excitedly, shouting her name, "Daisy!"
She heard me, her face lighting up with a bright smile as she hurried over.
She reached us, pushed her sunglasses to the top of her head, and gave Lila and me a warm hug. "Finally, I see you guys!" Her voice was still as clear and pleasant as ever.
I looked at her, filled with joy. "You're finally back. I've missed you so much."
Daisy said excitedly, "I've missed you guys too! I've always been thinking about everything back home."
Lila chimed in, "You really enjoyed being a foreign correspondent. We've been waiting for you to come back."
We chatted and laughed as we pulled Daisy's suitcase towards the parking lot, feeling like we were back in our school days.
The three of us drove to a small bar near our old school, a place we often gathered during our school days, filled with countless beautiful memories. For the first time in days, I drank without any ulterior motives, and it was the happiest I had been in a long time.
Seeing my dear friend Daisy in front of me, I felt her face was just as kind, and the familiar spark still shone in her eyes. In this little bar filled with our memories, it felt as if time had rewound back to our school days.
The joy of our reunion was overwhelming, washing over me like waves crashing on the shore. I couldn’t help but drink a bit more. Each sip was filled with deep, unspoken affection.
"Daisy, you're so lucky, enjoying yourself abroad without worrying about anything," I said to Daisy enviously.
Daisy took a sip of her drink, swirling the glass, and said to me, "Diana, I was very lonely abroad. Especially seeing what you've been through recently, I wanted to help you, but being abroad, I felt powerless. Sensing how much you and Lila care about me, I feel a warmth in my heart."
Lila's eyes were a bit blurry, clearly a bit drunk. She held Daisy's hand tightly, her voice full of emotion and gratitude. "Daisy, you know what? Diana, despite her difficult situation, always thinks about helping me. Look, she didn't hesitate to give me Stellar Legal Advisors, such a big firm." Lila's eyes sparkled with tears of gratitude.
Hearing this, Daisy turned thoughtfully to Lila and asked softly, "So now you have a firm under your name?"
Lila nodded gently, her eyes filled with both gratitude and a hint of guilt. "This is something I never dared to dream of. I thought I'd just be a lawyer, relying on my parents' connections for any opportunities. But then Diana asked Edward to give me Stellar Legal Advisors." Then she turned to me and said, "I haven't been able to help you much, yet you’ve always been there for me. Do you know how grateful I am to you?"
Daisy clinked glasses with me again and said, "Diana, don't worry. Now that I'm back, I'll definitely help you deal with Anne."
