Chapter 390 Jeffrey Joins the Game

"Edward?" David's voice was steady, but there was a slight tremor that gave away his unease.

On the other end, Edward's voice came through urgently. "David, is Diana with you?"

The sudden question made David pause. He turned to look at me with a wary expression.

I caught David's strange look and instinctively met his gaze. Our eyes locked, and I was filled with confusion. What was going on? Why was he looking at me like that?

David took a moment, then put the call on speaker. "Yeah, she's right here. What's up?"

At that moment, his gaze was focused and alert, his entire body slightly leaning forward as if he wanted to dissect and analyze every word coming from the phone.

Edward remarked, "Okay. I just got word that Anne has been in frequent contact with some mysterious overseas consortium. Looks like she's gearing up to secure a massive amount of funding. I don't know what she's planning, but my gut tells me it has something to do with the Wilson Group's real estate project."

David's expression grew serious. "My real estate project is the group's top priority right now. We've poured a ton of resources into it," he said. He clenched his jaw and continued, "If Anne's trying to sabotage us, she's definitely targeting us this time."

David's brow furrowed, his fingers tapping lightly on the table as he pondered.

After a long pause, David asked through gritted teeth, "Edward, can you find out more about this overseas consortium? Their background, investment preferences, financial strength, anything?"

Edward responded, "There's not much info available. All I know is that they've made significant moves in the energy and infrastructure sectors, but there's almost no info on their real estate activities. I've got people looking into it. I'll let you know as soon as I find anything."

"Thanks, Edward." With that, David ended the call and slowly turned to me, his eyes filled with worry.

He remarked, "Diana, this situation is serious. Anne has teamed up with an overseas consortium to mess with the Wilson Group's real estate project. If she succeeds, our stake in the project will be significantly reduced. This isn't just about a huge financial loss; the Wilson Group's influence in the industry will take a major hit. The consequences could be disastrous."

David's brow was deeply furrowed, his tone full of concern.

I quickly sorted through the relationships in my mind and spoke, "Besides Anne and the Wilson family, Fiona also has a stake in this project. Anne and Edward have a long-standing feud, and she's always been at odds with Fiona. I think Anne's actions are targeting more than just you. Everyone involved in this project is likely part of her plan."

David said, "Does she really think she can take on all of us by herself?"

He clearly didn't believe Anne would go that far.

I nodded, looking out the window. "We need to take the initiative and get ahead of them."

David stood behind me, puzzled. He said, "That's easier said than done. We know almost nothing about this mysterious consortium. Where did they come from? What's their goal? How can we get ahead of them when we're in the dark?"

I turned to David, my eyes locking onto his with a meaningful look. "Based on what you know about Anne, do you really think she has the ability to convince an overseas consortium to invest in such a massive project?"

David's eyes brightened at my words, and he quickly began searching on his phone.

As he searched, he spoke rapidly, "Anne's gotten more ruthless and aggressive in her business tactics since learning from Nicholas. But her vision is still limited. It's hard to believe she could secure such a large investment from an overseas consortium on her own. There must be something else going on behind the scenes."

His fingers tapped a few times on the screen, his brow furrowing before gradually relaxing as if he had found a key clue.

He remarked, "When I was with the Griffin family, I worked on several overseas projects and made some influential friends in the international finance community. I just reached out to them about this consortium, and they were also puzzled by this mysterious entity suddenly getting into real estate. This confirms my suspicion that there's more to this consortium than meets the eye."

My mind raced with possibilities as I analyzed the situation. "A consortium with no roots in real estate suddenly investing in Anne, and in such a sensitive project. It's highly unusual. Could someone be pretending to be an overseas consortium? But why would they do that?"

At that moment, David's phone lit up with a message from Edward: [I found out Anne has been in frequent contact with someone named Jeffrey.]

"Jeffrey?" David and I exclaimed simultaneously.

David's brow furrowed. "Who is he?" he asked.

I said, "He's the sole heir of the Adams Group." I spoke slowly, my tone serious. "We met him at Nicholas's club. His family is extremely influential in the business world, with wealth that rivals countries. For Jeffrey, investing in the Wilson family's real estate project might be a trivial matter."

Jeffrey's handsome face flashed in my mind, but I couldn't understand why he would get involved in this conflict.

David's eyes widened in realization. He murmured, "So it's him. Suddenly, he gets close to Anne and invests in a project that doesn't offer him much return. There must be a hidden agenda."

He quickly sent all the information he had on Jeffrey to Edward.

After sending the message, David stood up and paced the room, his anxiety growing more apparent.

He continued, "Time is running out. If the Adams Group really invests in Anne, and she manages to sabotage the real estate project, we might not be able to respond in time."

I asked, "How far along are you and Edward with your preparations?"

David and Edward's business acumen was on par with mine, but I still felt uneasy.
