Chapter 321 Skylar Also Pleads for Her?

But Edward didn't give a damn about any of that. His eyes were bloodshot as he yelled into the mall, "Anne, give Skylar back to us! Do you have any idea how hard we've been looking for her?"

His voice was full of urgency and anger.

Anne heard Edward and let out a cold laugh. "You've got some nerve! If you can't even take care of yourself, how can you provide a good life for Skylar? If I hadn't shown up when you passed out, who knows what might have happened to her! I can't trust you with her!"

Edward was shaking with rage as he shot back, "That was just an accident! I'm Skylar's father, I can totally take care of her! You had no right to take her away; that's against the law!"

Their argument got louder and louder.

Skylar, scared by all the shouting, started to cry.

Her small body trembled in Anne's arms as she whimpered, "Aunt Anne, I'm scared. I want my mommy."

But Anne and Edward, lost in their argument, didn't notice Skylar's fear.

The police, seeing the situation, waved their arms and shouted, "Everyone, calm down!"

But the two were too angry to listen and kept arguing. Watching the chaos, I felt a mix of anger and urgency.

Unable to hold back any longer, I called out loudly to Skylar, "Skylar, sweetheart, come to mommy!"

Hearing my voice, Skylar cried even harder and struggled out of Anne's arms, her small body stumbling in fear as she ran towards me, nearly falling several times. But she didn't care; she kept running, sobbing, "Mommy, mommy!"

My eyes filled with tears. I quickly knelt down, opened my arms, and hugged her tightly. I kept stroking her back, whispering, "Sweetheart, don't be scared, I'm here. I'll never leave you again."

Skylar clung to me, her little hands gripping my collar tightly, afraid of being separated from me again.

Seeing Skylar safely in my arms, the police quickly took action.

A group of officers rushed forward, and several strong hands firmly restrained Anne. Her eyes widened, her face full of defiance. She struggled fiercely, kicking and flailing, trying to break free, but her resistance was futile against the powerful officers. As Anne was pinned to the ground, her defiant gaze met ours, slowly giving way to a look of desolation.

Holding Skylar close and feeling her warmth, I felt my emotions swirling within me. I knew finding Skylar was just the beginning; there were many more challenges ahead. But as long as Skylar was safe in my arms, that was my greatest blessing.

As the police prepared to take Anne away, Skylar's eyes widened. She let go of my collar and stumbled over to Anne.

Reaching Anne, she looked up with her tear-streaked face and hugged Anne's leg tightly, her voice trembling. "Aunt Anne, hug me. Aunt Anne, don't go."

The scene was heart-wrenching for anyone watching.

Joshua gently nudged my arm, signaling for me to call Skylar back."Skylar, sweetie, come here." I waved to Skylar, trying to keep my voice gentle.

Skylar wobbled back to me, grabbing my hand and shaking it vigorously. "Mommy, tell the officers Aunt Anne isn't a bad person. Don't let them take her away, please."

Hearing Skylar's tearful plea, my heart felt like it was being squeezed.

Skylar was already soaked in tears in my arms, and my resentment toward Anne was shattered by the genuine bond between Skylar and her.

Thinking about the pain and struggle of searching for Skylar, I felt anger towards Anne. But seeing Skylar pleading for her, I couldn't bear to refuse.

Joshua quietly reminded me, "Anne's actions were illegal. She has to face the consequences."

As a former lawyer, I knew Anne had broken the law.

But emotionally, how could I bear to see Skylar heartbroken over Anne being taken away?

I nodded at Joshua, suppressing my sadness, then knelt down to gently hug Skylar again, softly patting her back and comforting her.

"Sweetheart, don't cry. I know you had fun with Aunt Anne and you like her a lot. But the officers need to talk to her about something important. Let's let them do their job, and Aunt Anne will come back when they're done, okay?" As I spoke, I gently wiped Skylar's tear-streaked face, trying to calm her down.

Skylar's repeated calls were heart-wrenching.

Skylar, hearing my words, asked tearfully, "Mommy, will Aunt Anne really come back once she's done with work?"

"Sweetheart, I promise. Aunt Anne is just helping the officers with their work. She'll come back when she's done." I continued to comfort Skylar. Glancing at Anne, I saw her face was also streaked with tears.

After Anne was taken away, there was a brief silence.

I looked at the scene, feeling a mix of emotions. What I thought was just a personal grudge between Anne and me had become more complicated because of Skylar's feelings. Joshua gave me a knowing look, as if contemplating my decision. He then shook my hand and said softly, "Diana, for now, things are settled. I have some work to get back to, but if you need any help, just let me know."

I looked at him gratefully and said, "Thank you so much, Joshua. If it weren't for you, I don't know when we would have found Skylar."

Joshua glanced at Skylar in my arms, his expression softening. Then he turned to follow the departing officers.

Soon, the chaos subsided, and the onlookers began to disperse.

But I felt a persistent weight on my heart. At that time, Edward looked at Skylar, tightly held in my arms, and a fawning smile crossed his face. He cautiously approached and reached out, wanting to hold Skylar. "Skylar, it's me. Do you remember me?"

Skylar, seeing Edward approach, looked terrified. She buried her head in my arm, clutching my clothes tightly, trembling with fear.

Edward's hand hung awkwardly in the air, his smile frozen.
