Chapter 164 Sweet Whirlpool
Melissa shook her head and said, "I don't know, maybe Mr. Hayden Howard and Mrs. Clara Howard asked her to move back? But since she's already moved out, what's the big deal? And now that you and Mr. Edward Howard have a kid, you're not still thinking about divorce, are you?"
Her words hit me like a punch to the gut. I took a deep breath and said slowly, "Melissa, I am thinking about divorce."
Melissa looked puzzled, her eyes full of confusion. "Why? Your future should be happy and fulfilling. Why are you thinking about divorce?"
I shook my head bitterly, my eyes full of exhaustion. "Melissa, you don't get it. The grudges and feuds in this wealthy family are like a tangled web. I've been struggling with it for a long time, and I'm already worn out. I don't want to keep going," I said.
Melissa nodded lightly, a hint of helplessness in her eyes. "I don't really understand the affairs of wealthy families. But I do know that marriage is very important for you and your child. Even if you don't think about yourself, you should think about the baby."
My thoughts drifted back to the past, when Mason had just passed away, and Mia raised me alone. She had to fight hard in the harsh business world to support us and take care of me. The hardships she endured were indescribable and often left her feeling overwhelmed.
School wasn't a refuge for me either. David and his group of privileged kids made sure of that, their relentless bullying casting a long, dark shadow over my childhood, making those days incredibly dark. Did I want my child to go through the same hardships I did?
Thinking of this, I felt a pang of pain in my heart and leaned against the corridor wall, remaining silent for a long time. Finally, as if making a decision, I said to Melissa, "Melissa, I'll go back with you."
"That's great." Melissa's face lit up with a relieved smile. "I'll help you pack your things now." She gently took my hand and led me back to the ward.
I asked in confusion, "Now? Didn't we agree to be discharged tomorrow?"
"Tonight and tomorrow are just one night apart. I already asked the doctor, and going home tonight won't be a problem." A familiar voice sounded behind me—it was Edward.
I was startled and turned around abruptly. In front of me was a bouquet of vibrant red roses, their petals glistening beautifully under the light. Behind the roses stood Edward, looking expectant. Somehow, he had quietly followed us into the room.
"Welcome home." Edward bowed slightly, handing me the flowers. His deep eyes were filled with affection, as if the bouquet conveyed all his emotions.
At the same time, two rows of bodyguards said in unison, "Mrs. Howard, welcome home." Their loud voices echoed in the ward, conveying a sense of solemn ceremony.
Melissa also smiled and said, "Mrs. Howard, welcome home."
In this warm atmosphere, I couldn't help but feel a bit shy, my cheeks turning pink as I quickly took the roses. Before I could react, Edward's strong arm wrapped around me, pulling me into a warm embrace. His hug was firm and comforting, carrying a familiar yet strange scent.
The bodyguards turned around in unison, giving us some privacy. Melissa quietly left the room, gently closing the door behind her. The room was so silent that only our heartbeats could be heard.
His intense gaze locked onto me, his eyes filled with unspoken words. The next moment, he leaned in and kissed me passionately. His lips, warm and familiar, gently touched mine, the sensation as light as a feather yet as fiery as a flame, igniting the emotions buried deep within me.
At first, I was a bit stunned, my body stiff, my mind a tumult of confusion and surprise. The sensation of his lips, warm and familiar, sent a cascade of sensations racing through me. Gradually, I felt my heart begin to flutter.
As Edward's tongue entered my mouth, I fell into the sweet whirlpool he created, completely immersed.
My body gradually relaxed, responding to his kiss involuntarily. The cold barrier I had built in my heart began to crumble under his gentle assault. Tears welled up in my eyes, and I couldn't tell if they were from being moved, feeling nostalgic, or overwhelmed by the helplessness of this complex emotion. In this kiss, time seemed to stop, and the whole world was reduced to just our breaths and heartbeats.
Some said that children were the bond of a couple's relationship. I never agreed with this before, but now, because of the child in my womb, Edward's feelings for me had indeed warmed up. Didn't this prove that saying?
His kiss lasted a long time, long enough for me to forget the passage of time, to forget myself, completely immersed in his tenderness. Until a strange sensation came from my abdomen, I suddenly woke up.
Blushing, I gently pushed Edward away and whispered, "The doctor said it's not allowed now..."
Before I could finish, his lips gently touched mine again, but this time, it was just a light peck. Then he took my hand. "Alright, let's go home," he said.
And so, Edward led me out of the ward. His hand was large and warm, tightly wrapping around my small hand, the firm grip conveying a silent yet powerful promise. This intimate contact made my heart race, a long-lost warmth spreading from my palm, gradually enveloping my whole body.
We walked all the way to the parking lot, arriving at our exclusive business car. After getting in, I still felt a bit nervous, afraid that in this intimate, enclosed space, Edward might make some inappropriate moves. However, he just lazily leaned back in his seat, closing his eyes to rest, a faint smile on his lips, gradually calming my previously tense mood.
