Chapter 188 Amicable Separation
I tried to keep my cool and picked up Edward's call.
"Diana, did you have fun with your new boyfriend last night?" Edward's voice was flat, but I could tell he was pissed.
It was normal for men to be angry if they saw their wives with another guy. But Edward never got that I was drowning in his affairs with Anne and Aria every single day. He only cared about his own anger, never about how I felt.
"I don't know what you're talking about," I shot back, ice-cold.
"He drove you home, and you both got in the elevator together. He hasn't come out yet. Are you seriously saying there's nothing going on?" Edward's words cut deep.
I rolled my eyes and said, "Edward, do you really not trust me? Is this your idea of caring? Just because you saw me in an elevator with him, you think something's up? Do you really think that little of me?"
Edward went quiet for a second, then said, "Then explain it to me. What else have you done besides having sex?"
I raised my voice. "You just saw the surface and judged me. Don't you think that's ridiculous?"
"David and I are not what you think," I added.
"What do you think I imagine?" Edward asked, sounding almost amused. "You seem upset. What, did he not satisfy you last night? How many times did you do it? What positions? Did you scream like you used to?" Edward's questions came at me like bullets, and I could feel his anger rising.
I took a deep breath and yelled, "Enough! I'm not as shameless as you."
But Edward didn't stop, his voice still cold. "Aren't you? Do you think I don't know what you did with that lawyer from Astoria on the island? Or that David's had a thing for you for ages?"
His words hit me like a ton of bricks. I had never told anyone about my one-night stand with the lawyer from Astoria, not even Lila. I didn't expect Edward to know about my infidelity all along. I opened my mouth but had no idea what to say.
Edward went on, "You cheated with that man, and I cheated with Aria. I thought we were even, so I let it go. But now you dare to flirt with David right in front of me. Who's shameless now?" His voice was ice-cold.
I was scrambling for a response when he spoke again, this time sounding more disappointed than angry. "Don't you think I know my own body? We've been married for years and never had a kid. Why did you get pregnant after just one trip?"
His words hit me like a lightning bolt. I stood there, stunned and confused. I had always thought it was my body that made me unable to be pregnant. I never expected the issue to be with him. According to Edward, the baby in my womb wasn't his. Then whose baby was Aria carrying? My mind was a mess, my thoughts tangled up like I was lost in a fog.
Edward's voice was calm and steady. "But, Diana, I don't care whose kid you're carrying. As long as I raise him, he's mine. I just want you by my side. Now, do you still want to divorce me?"
A flicker of regret crossed my mind, but the pain Edward had caused me was still fresh. I bit my lip and said firmly, "Yes, I want a divorce."
Edward looked a bit down. "Alright, maybe you do deserve to find your own happiness. If you're set on divorcing, let's do it amicably."
I was shocked. I never thought he'd agree so easily. I figured he'd cling to me and make my life hell after finding out about my one-night stand. But he agreed just like that. It was hard to believe.
"Really?" I asked cautiously.
Edward replied, "If you regret it now, that's also an option."
I quickly reaffirmed my decision. "No regrets. I'll be at the trial on time."
Edward hesitated, then suddenly said, "Diana, since I agreed to the divorce, shouldn't you do something for me?"
My heart skipped a beat. I hadn't expected him to set conditions. Feeling a bit wary, I asked, "What is it?"
Edward calmly said, "Do a live stream to clear Anne's name. She didn't intentionally cause your miscarriage."
I frowned and my voice turned cold. "Why should I agree to that?"
Edward paused, then said, "Hayden came to see you, didn't he?"
I nodded instinctively. "When I was in the hospital, he brought Clara and Anne to see me..."
Before I could finish, Edward raised his voice. "Diana, can you really be so heartless? Can you really watch Anne get kicked out of the Howard family and left with nothing?"
I said seriously, "Her being kicked out of the Howard family is your father's decision. What does it have to do with me?"
Edward's voice had a hint of pleading. "Anne is a pitiful child. I promised to take care of her for life. How can I bear to see her homeless? If you do a live stream to clear her name, I'll make sure she stays in the Howard family, and then we can proceed with the divorce."
I finally got it. Edward didn't really want to set me free; he wanted me to help him and Anne. But even so, it was worth it to me. Nothing made me happier than a smooth divorce.
I slowly said, "Fine, I agree. But thanks to you, my live stream account is banned, so I can't help you with the live stream right away."
Edward seemed pleased. "No problem, you can use Aria's account. She also needs to do a live stream to clear Anne's name. You two can do it together; it might be even more effective."
Hearing this, I realized everything was part of his plan, and a wave of disappointment washed over me. Any goodwill I had just rekindled for Edward vanished.
"You set the time for the live stream. I'll be there," I said flatly, then hung up.
Not long after, Albert sent me a detailed live stream plan.
I was surprised. It was just a clarification live stream, yet Edward had prepared it meticulously, even the script was ready. This made it easier for me.
Aria and I just needed to follow the script during the livestream. After all, the live stream room had a teleprompter, so I just had to read what Edward had prepared.
