Chapter 187 You Want to Divorce Me?

I got home, checked the time, and remembered I had a livestream coming up soon. I wanted to chill for a bit, so I quickly took a shower and got ready for bed. But once I lay down, sleep just wouldn't come. My mind kept drifting back to how Edward had changed so much.

Feeling bored, I started scrolling through videos on my phone and stumbled upon a post from Anne. It said: [Even if the whole world doesn't love me, I still have a brother who does.]

The background was a selfie at the beach, with Anne standing gracefully on the golden sand, her hair blowing in the sea breeze. She wore a simple yet stylish white dress, looking like a lily blooming by the sea. She had a sweet smile on her face, but there was a hint of cunning and pride in that smile, like she was silently telling the story of her unbreakable bond with Edward and the new game she was quietly planning.

I knew deep down that Anne must have lost her chance with Hayden and was now trying to win over Edward again. Edward had always spoiled Anne, showering her with expensive gifts and arranging trips abroad for her to unwind.

I also knew that Hayden was now terminally ill and didn't have long to live. Once Hayden passed away, Anne would undoubtedly do everything she could to reclaim her share of the inheritance from Edward. This was precisely why Hayden had planned to transfer all the inheritance to the names of my and Edward's children.

However, he might never understand that a woman like Anne would stop at nothing to achieve her goals, without any regard for limits.

The harsh alarm clock jolted me from my thoughts. I quickly got up and got dressed. However, looking at my face with dark circles in the mirror, I couldn't help but sigh softly.

Due to the long hours of wearing makeup for live streaming, my skin condition had already been affected, and the sleepless night made it even worse, making me look terrible. Thinking about how my youth had been wasted on Edward, I felt a wave of sadness wash over me.

So, before the live stream started, I called Lila and said concisely, "Lila, please file the divorce papers for me. All the materials are ready; you just need to handle the process as my lawyer."

Lila agreed, and everything went according to plan. Shortly after she submitted the agreement, Edward's message arrived as expected, but the way it was delivered surprised me.

I started the livestream as usual. Moments later, an account named "Love Isn't That Easy" requested to connect. At first glance at the name, I thought it was probably a love-struck girl and casually accepted the request. Once connected, I waited for the other side to ask a question, but time passed, and there was no sound from the other side.

I figured it was a mistake or maybe the person didn't know how to use the connection feature. Just as I was about to disconnect, a deep, angry male voice suddenly came through my earpiece, "You want to divorce me?" The voice was dripping with resentment and anger.

I was momentarily stunned and blurted out, "What did you say?" At the same time, I quickly swiped the screen to check the other person's profile, and my heart sank—it was Edward.

Edward seemed to be barely holding back his rage, his tone full of sarcasm. "What? You had your lawyer file for divorce, and now you're pretending you don't know anything? I'm asking you, do you really want to divorce me this time?" he demanded.

I took a deep breath, trying to calm myself down, and coldly said, "Edward, this is a private matter between us. If you have something to say, talk to my lawyer. Don't bother me in the live stream." With that, I decisively cut off the connection, not giving him any room.

However, the livestream chat exploded with comments, and the viewers' remarks flooded in like a tidal wave.

[Why don't you face your feelings? Is there some hidden secret you don't want us to know?]

[I think she's just putting on a show to get attention.]

[Maybe she's trying to hype herself up and increase her popularity. People will do anything to get famous these days.]

Everyone was leaving mocking comments, speculating and teasing. As the discussion heated up, my livestream quickly climbed to the top of the rankings.

Soon, a large number of people flooded into my livestream. Clearly, these newcomers didn't know what had happened earlier and were just joining in the commotion.

[What's going on with your relationship? Tell us about it.]

[I think she's just a bored rich woman looking for some fun, talking about legal aid when her own life is a mess.]

[Yeah, she can't even handle her marriage but wants to help others. What a joke.]

But some viewers expressed different opinions.

[Stop saying that. I think she's a strong, independent woman. It's admirable that she can stand up for herself when her marriage is unhappy.]

[Right, she's fighting for her rights. It's better than those who just endure in silence.]

As the debate raged on, malicious teasing and baseless accusations gradually took over, fueled by jealousy and schadenfreude common in the online world. Amidst the chaos, my livestream was soon reported and shut down, leaving behind only a screen full of unread comments and the lingering echoes of the uproar.

I kept cursing Edward in my heart. Last night, he had held me, promising to have children with me, and today, he came to ruin my career. When the live stream was shut down, my chest filled with a surge of anger. I stared at the now dark screen, my hands unconsciously clenched into fists, my nails digging into my palms without feeling the pain.

I had poured so much effort into this livestream. Was all the popularity and trust I had painstakingly built going to be destroyed by his impulsive actions? How could I accept this? How could Edward so recklessly trample on my efforts? But no matter how angry I was, it was useless. The shutdown of the live stream was a done deal, and all I could do was repeatedly click the appeal button. Each click felt like a roar against this unjust fate.

Just as I was in despair, Edward called again.
