Chapter 301 Targeting Her is Targeting Me

The car rolled to a stop at the club entrance. As soon as I stepped out, the security guard at the door practically tripped over himself to greet me with a big grin. "Ms. Cooper! What an honor to have you here."

He extended his hand to guide me inside. I nodded and followed him into the club. He kept up the flattery as we walked. "I heard your company's been killing it lately, even opened a new branch. Your business skills are something else."

I found it odd that even the club's security guard knew about our new branch, but I wasn't in the mood to chat. I remembered the last time I came here with Skylar to find Nicholas, this same guard had blocked me at the door. I took a deep breath, gathered my thoughts, and pushed open the door to the private room.

Inside, Nicholas was sitting with Daphne Morgan, the young woman I'd seen before. To my surprise, there were several beautiful women on one side of him and a few handsome young men on the other.

Seeing me, Nicholas immediately stood up, beaming, and introduced me to everyone with great enthusiasm. "Everyone, this is Ms. Cooper from the Cooper Group. She's the perfect mix of beauty and brains, with a bright future ahead."

The women looked at me with envy, and the young men stood up and approached me. One of them spoke up. "Ms. Cooper, please have a seat. We'd love to keep you company today."

The leading young man reached out to take my hand, but I subtly pulled away and looked at Nicholas.

"Godfather, what's going on here?" I asked.

Nicholas looked a bit embarrassed and quickly said, "You guys wait outside for now."

The young men obediently left the room, but the beautiful women kept chatting on the sofa. Just then, a commotion erupted at the door.

"Let me in!" A sharp female voice rang out.

"Miss, you can't enter without an invitation. Please show your invitation." The security guard blocked her.

"Get lost! Do you know who I am? You'd be scared to death if I told you!" Hearing this, everyone turned their attention to the door. I looked over and saw it was Anne.

She was still wearing the same ruffled skirt from years ago, her long hair disheveled and adorned with colorful cartoon clips, and she looked far from refined. The white bow at her neckline was cute, but her overall appearance was mismatched, especially with her dry skin and caked makeup adding to her worn-out look.

As soon as Anne saw Nicholas, she rushed towards him like a madwoman, as if the whole world only consisted of her and Nicholas. At this, Nicholas's previously relaxed expression vanished instantly.

But before Anne could get close, Daphne, who was sitting in Nicholas's lap, extended her arm and shoved Anne away with all her strength. Anne stumbled backward, nearly falling to the ground, looking utterly embarrassed.Daphne lifted her chin, her eyes filled with disdain and contempt. Her voice cut through the night like a knife, aimed right at Anne. "Who do you think you are, causing a scene here?"

Anne, barely steadying herself, looked humiliated. Her eyes widened with anger, her chest heaving violently, clearly enraged by the insult. Just as she was about to charge forward again, she locked eyes with Nicholas's cold, icy stare.

In an instant, Anne froze. Then, like a startled rabbit, she sank to the ground, hugging her knees and sobbing softly.

I watched with interest as Anne played the victim on the floor, then turned my gaze to the arrogant Daphne in Nicholas's arms, secretly anticipating a good show.

However, what happened next was beyond my expectations.

Nicholas's brow furrowed, a flash of anger crossing his face. Without hesitation, he raised his hand and slapped Daphne hard.

The slap was so powerful that Daphne's head snapped to the side, her smooth hair flying wildly. She was stunned, her lips trembling as if she wanted to say something, but the sudden violence left her speechless. Clearly, she hadn't expected Nicholas, who usually doted on her, to turn violent suddenly.

Seeing this, Anne's eyes brightened with a flicker of hope. Her mind raced as she became completely immersed in her fantasy, mistakenly believing that Nicholas's slap was a gesture of protection for her. In that moment, she tossed aside all dignity and decorum, her only thought being to draw closer to Nicholas.

Her courage surged, and she shamelessly crawled from the floor to Nicholas's feet, crying as she went.

"Nicholas, I've missed you so much," she exclaimed.

Then, a sharp crack suddenly shattered the quiet of the room, deafening in its intensity. Nicholas's hand, raised high with simmering anger and unyielding authority, came down in a fierce arc, landing hard against Anne's face.

The slap was so strong that Anne's face turned to the side, a red handprint quickly appearing on her cheek. Before Anne could react to the sudden blow, Nicholas's second slap came down like a storm, hitting her again. The consecutive slaps left Anne dazed, tears welling up in her eyes. She bit her lip, trying hard not to cry, looking both pitiful and ridiculous.

"How dare you come to see me?" Nicholas trembled with rage, his fingers curling slightly in anger as he pointed at Anne and cursed.

"The first slap is for hiring a hacker to infiltrate the Howard Group's system. Do you know how much trouble you caused? If they trace it back to you, we're all doomed!" he exclaimed.

"The second slap is for daring to harm Diana! She's my god-daughter, like my own child. Targeting her is targeting me! How dare you!" he continued.
