Chapter 415 The Secret in the Recorder

Skylar's actions left Fiona momentarily stunned. Her face was sprayed with water, ruining her meticulously applied makeup. Panic flashed in her eyes, quickly replaced by anger.

"You little brat!"

Fiona, furious and embarrassed, reached out to snatch the water gun from Skylar's hands.

Ignoring the pain in my knee, I scrambled over, shielding Skylar behind me.

"Fiona, have you lost your mind?"

I shouted at her, my voice trembling with rage.

My eyes widened as I glared at Fiona, my chest heaving with each angry breath.

"She's just a kid! You're an adult, how can you lay a hand on a child? Have you lost all sense of decency?"

I yelled, my voice hoarse.

Fiona paused, startled by my outburst, but the fierceness in her eyes didn't waver. She continued to lunge forward, shouting, "She ruined my makeup, that little brat!"

I couldn't believe it. Just because her makeup was messed up, she was willing to hurt young Skylar.

Skylar was terrified by Fiona's sudden attack, hiding behind me and sobbing quietly. Her small body pressed tightly against mine, and I could feel her fear.

This only fueled my anger further. I protected Skylar even more fiercely, standing firm like an unmovable mountain, determined not to let Fiona get any closer.

"Shut up!"

I screamed with all my might, my voice becoming rough and raspy.

"You're willing to hurt a child over something so trivial? Where's your compassion and kindness? All that gentleness you showed before was just an act, wasn't it? Your true, ugly self is disgusting!"

I grew more agitated, my body trembling uncontrollably. The Fiona before me was nothing like the person I once knew. Her actions filled me with revulsion.

Fiona was taken aback by my furious shouting, her movements freezing. She slowly turned her head, staring at me with a twisted expression, a chilling smile creeping onto her face.

"You can protect your precious daughter now, but once Edward hears what's on the recorder, let's see if he still looks at you the same way. You'll regret it then."

Her words made my heart sink, and curiosity sparked within me.

What secret could be on that recorder that made her so confident?

But I couldn't lose my composure. I forced myself to stay calm, meeting her gaze with determination.

"No matter what you're plotting, I won't let you succeed easily. You need to explain what's on that recorder right now."

Despite my words, a voice inside me screamed, warning me of the danger.

With only Skylar and me at home, if I completely enraged Fiona, she might do something even more extreme to harm Skylar.

Skylar was the most important person in my life; I couldn't let her be in any danger.

Logic told me to stay calm and negotiate, but my emotions drove me to uncover the truth. These conflicting thoughts clashed in my mind, leaving me in turmoil.

Fiona showed no intention of explaining. She scoffed, glaring at me and the trembling Skylar with a look that could devour us.

Then she strode to the table, grabbed the recorder, and headed for the door.

Seeing her about to leave, panic surged within me. I bit my lip and, without thinking, lunged forward, grabbing her arm tightly, my nails digging into her skin. "You can't leave! You need to explain everything today!"

Fiona forcefully shook her arm, trying to break free. She was strong, and I stumbled back several steps, nearly falling.

"Don't be foolish, Diana."

Fiona spat out each word through gritted teeth.

"I thought you were genuinely innocent, but you know what you've done. You brought this on yourself, so don't blame me later."

With that, she forcefully opened the door.

Just as Fiona opened the door, Alaric appeared unexpectedly. He clearly didn't anticipate finding Fiona in my room.

His face, initially cheerful, froze in shock at the tense scene inside. He was holding snacks he had brought for us.

"What is going on here?"

Alaric asked, scanning the room.

Skylar, seeing Alaric, seemed to find solace. Her suppressed fear erupted, and she began to cry loudly.

I quickly turned, crouching down to hold Skylar tightly, gently patting her back. "Skylar, it's okay. Don't be scared. I'm here, and Alaric is here too."

I repeated comforting words in her ear, trying to calm her down, but her small body continued to tremble.

Fiona, seeing Alaric, was momentarily stunned but quickly regained her arrogant demeanor.

She scoffed, "Perfect timing. Take a look! Your girlfriend is about to reconcile with her ex-husband, and you're still trying to please her." She shoved the recorder into her pocket.

I couldn't focus on comforting Skylar. I hurriedly stepped forward, pulling Alaric behind me.

"Alaric, don't listen to her nonsense. She's trying to threaten me with that recorder, but I have no idea what's on it."

Alaric frowned, his gaze fixed on Fiona, his tone harsh. "What are you trying to do? Bullying Diana and the child, is that your idea of strength? If you have something to say, say it to me."

Fiona's lips curled into a mocking smile. "Diana, do you think you can keep hiding things from Alaric and Edward? What's on this recorder is enough to ruin you."

Her words reignited my anger. Ignoring the danger, I stepped closer to Fiona. "I'm asking you one last time, what's on the recorder? If you don't explain, you're not leaving here today."

Fiona's eyes gleamed with cunning. She glanced at Alaric and spoke in a sinister tone. "Diana, some things are better left unsaid in front of your boyfriend. Your hidden past, if exposed, won't look good."

Her words made my heart sink, a sense of foreboding washing over me.
