Chapter 353 Found Lanny!

I stood frozen at the intersection, rain mixing with the sweat and tears on my face.

"Did I just miss him?" I muttered.

I was almost sure the figure I saw was Lanny, but now he was gone. I glanced at a nearby newsstand, hoping the owner might have seen which way Lanny went.

With that thought, I braved the wind and rain, hurrying over.

"Hey, did you just see a slim guy in a black trench coat pass by here?" I asked.

The owner looked me up and down, furrowing his brow. "Yeah, I saw someone like that. He went down that alley."

He pointed towards a dimly lit alley.

I didn't have time to thank him. I turned and ran towards the alley.

As I turned the corner, I saw a figure standing there, facing away from me.

"Lanny!" I shouted, my voice mixing with the rain, echoing in the alley.

The figure flinched and slowly turned around.

As he turned, a flash of lightning lit up the sky, revealing his face. It was Lanny!

A flicker of panic crossed his face, but he quickly regained his composure, a cold smile curling his lips.

"Diana, I didn't expect to see you here," he said.

I stepped closer, anger and hatred fueling me. "Lanny, you can't escape!"

Lanny stayed calm. He pulled a shiny knife from his pocket and waved it in front of me.

I stopped, shocked. I hadn't expected him to be armed.

Seeing his smug smile, I knew I couldn't confront him head-on.

I forced myself to stay calm, thinking of a plan.

Suddenly, an idea struck me. I pretended to be scared and took a step back. As Lanny's attention was on me, I quickly bent down, picked up a rock, and hurled it at his hand.

The rock hit its mark, and the knife clattered to the ground.

Seeing this, Lanny didn't stick around. He darted into another alley and disappeared.

I knew I couldn't match Lanny in strength or stamina. If I chased him, I'd likely end up hurt.

Just as I was about to give up and head back to the main road, a group of people ran towards me. Leading them was David.

David reached me, rain streaming down his chiseled face. He was panting heavily, urgently asking, "Diana, are you okay?"

I instantly realized David's presence here wasn't a coincidence.

I glared at him, my anger flaring up again. "Lanny was just here, but now he's gone!" I almost screamed.

David was silent for a moment. Then he looked up, meeting my gaze. His voice carried a desperate plea. "Diana, I know you're angry, but can you let Lanny go?"

Hearing this, I was stunned.

I couldn't help but shout, "Let him go? David, do you know what you're saying? Your wife Fiona had a miscarriage because of him. Your child is gone! Lila was raped by him and is on the verge of a breakdown. Don't you feel you owe them? My company suffered huge losses because of him, and I don't even know how to recover. And you ask me to let him go? How dare you?"David's body stiffened. He looked at me, a bitter smile spreading across his face.

"Of course, I feel guilty. I can't sleep at night. Every time I close my eyes, I see their faces. How can I not hate Lanny? But he's my brother. What can I do? The Griffin family and the Jackson family are hunting him down. I feel their pressure every day. I feel like I'm being watched every time I step outside." His voice choked, and he couldn't continue.

"And the Wilson family? Are they putting all the pressure on you alone?" I asked, incredulous, staring into his eyes.

At the mention of the Wilson family, a struggle flickered in David's eyes.

He said, "My father has been trying to protect Lanny. He's come up with many escape plans for Lanny and keeps pressuring me to stay quiet in front of the Griffin family so as not to ruin his plans. But I..."

I was shocked.

"David, wake up! Your father can't tell right from wrong, and you're just as confused!" I exclaimed.

"Diana, I have my difficulties." David looked embarrassed. "On one side, my father's orders. On the other, Fiona and Lila's suffering. I really don't know what to do." His voice choked, and he couldn't continue.

I stepped closer to him, speaking earnestly, "David, stop aiding and abetting. The only way to end this is for Lanny to face justice. If you still care about Lila and Fiona, tell me where he's hiding."

David stood motionless in the rain, silent for a long time, seemingly making a final struggle.

I didn't press him; I just waited quietly.

After a long while, David finally looked up.

"He's hiding in a cave on Lakeview Mountain. He knows he did wrong," he said.

"A cave?" I was surprised. We had used all kinds of high-tech methods to track him, but Lanny had been living like a caveman, which was why he eluded us.

After speaking, David immediately regretted it. He asked me with difficulty, "Diana, you're going to tell Nicholas, aren't you?"

"Even if I don't, do you think Lanny can hide forever?" I found David's question ridiculous and continued, "Didn't you see him standing in front of me with a knife? He has no intention of truly repenting."

"I'd rather you hand him over to the police. At least Lanny would have a chance to live," David almost begged.

"If you had thought that way earlier, you should have made him surrender—before Nicholas and the Griffin family found him." I was getting impatient and turned to leave.

I couldn't understand why the once decisive and upright David became so indecisive about family matters. He was like this when he was forced to marry Fiona, and now again with Lanny's trouble.

"No," a frail voice suddenly said.

I instinctively looked around. The Wilson family patriarch, Daniel, had somehow appeared behind me.

The once imposing Daniel now looked much older, likely having spent a lot of energy trying to protect Lanny.
