Chapter 221 A Couple

With that, Edward's hand shot out, gently tilting my chin up. His eyes, burning with sudden, intense desire, locked onto mine.

Then, Edward leaned in with a dominant aura. Before I could react, his lips pressed down on mine. The sudden kiss made my mind go blank, and I instinctively stiffened, completely forgetting to resist.

Seeing that I was defenseless, Edward seemed encouraged, and his kiss became even more fierce and unrestrained. He squinted slightly, and his tongue, like a nimble snake, quickly and precisely entered my mouth. With a slight force on his jaw, he pried open my tightly closed teeth and began to explore my mouth recklessly, as if he wanted to mark every inch of it with his exclusive imprint.

When I finally snapped out of the shock, my entire mouth was already under his control. I tried to move my tongue forcefully, wanting to drive his out. However, every struggle seemed to excite Edward even more.

His tongue moved back and forth along the side of my tongue, sometimes lightly touching, sometimes pressing heavily, leaving me with no escape.

Panic seized me, and I bit down hard. The metallic tang of blood flooded my mouth, instantly recognizing it wasn't mine but the coppery taste of Edward's injured tongue.

Edward's body trembled violently, and he quickly let go of me as if electrocuted, covering his mouth with one hand. Edward shouted indistinctly, "You! I am your husband, how can you do this to me?"

I expressionlessly extended my finger, gently wiping away the bloodstains on my lips, and said coldly, "Mr. Howard, have you forgotten that we are already divorced? Besides, in your eyes, I am just second-hand goods. Your official girlfriend is Aria."

Edward was slightly stunned, then seemed to suddenly realize, and tightly grabbed my arms. "Diana, I was wrong."

I shook my head lightly, my face full of mockery. "Mr. Howard, how could you be wrong? You are always right."

I then glanced at the clock hanging in the bar and calmly reminded him, "It's already late, Mr. Howard. You should hurry home to accompany your girlfriend. I won't disturb you anymore."

With that, I forcefully shook off Edward's hands and turned to leave with big strides.

Seeing this, Edward took two steps forward with his long legs and blocked my way. He was slightly panting and said, "Diana, I came to find you for a serious matter."

"What is it?" I asked coldly.

"Can you, for the sake of our past marriage, attend my father's recovery banquet tomorrow night? It might be the last banquet he hosts." Edward's voice became lower, his brows slightly furrowed, and his expression showed a bit of sadness.

I hesitated, but Edward, a bit anxious, said, "My dad is not in good health and doesn't know we are divorced. He has been talking about wanting to see you these days."

As he spoke, he quickly took out a finely printed invitation from the inner pocket of his jacket and handed it to me with both hands. The golden letters on the invitation were particularly eye-catching in Edward's slightly trembling hands.

My refusal hung heavy in the air. Edward's gaze searched mine, raw with desperation. "Diana," he begged, his voice thick with unshed tears, "Please, just let him have peace."

His pitiful appearance stirred a ripple in my heart, and I couldn't help but take the invitation. I waved the invitation in my hand and said, "So, can I go now?"

Edward slowly stepped aside, looking defeated.

When I was a child, Mia and Mason always taught me to be kind. No matter how messed up things were between Edward and me, Hayden was an innocent old man. After thinking it over, I decided to attend Hayden's banquet.

I figured, on such an important occasion, neither Edward nor Anne would dare to pull anything on me, right?

As for Aria, I didn't care about her. She always played the pure and obedient card in front of Hayden and wouldn't show her true colors around him.

Hayden's banquet was a big deal, with tons of business and political bigwigs showing up.

Maybe because he was in a good mood, when Clara wheeled him into the banquet hall, Hayden looked particularly rosy. Seeing the guest of honor arrive, everyone rushed over to chat, and Hayden responded to each one like a pro.

The whole event was buzzing with harmony, but I felt totally out of place. I was bored, scrolling through comments on my phone.

After a while, Clara wheeled Hayden over to me.

"Diana, I might look good, but my health isn't great. Why didn't you and Edward come together today?" Hayden's voice was weak, and his seemingly concerned question had a hint of reproach.

I was trying to think of a response when Anne suddenly barged in between us, placing a big gift box on Hayden's lap.

Hayden and I exchanged bewildered glances, completely taken aback. Clara, on the other hand, looked calm, as if Anne's appearance was the most natural thing in the world. The premeditation of it all was chilling.

Anne said, "Dad, I wish you good health!"

But Hayden ignored her and just looked into the distance.

Clara, trying to smooth things over, said, "Hayden, look at the gift Anne brought you. I heard she carefully picked it out for you."

As she spoke, Clara moved to open the gift, but Hayden raised his hand to stop her.

"Take this unlucky thing away. She is not my daughter. I don't have such a daughter." Hayden's tone was low, but it still drew a lot of attention.

Clara gently tried again, "Honey, don't let outsiders laugh at our family, and Diana is still here."

Hayden then remembered my presence and said to Anne, "If you want me to forgive you, first seek Diana's forgiveness. If Diana doesn't forgive you, you can forget about me forgiving you and returning to the Howard family."

Hayden gave Anne a chance. If she could get my forgiveness, she still had a shot at becoming a legitimate member of the Howard family again.

Anne quickly realized this and grabbed my arm tightly.

"Diana, I was wrong before. I apologize to you." She bowed deeply, but I couldn't tell if it was genuine or just an act.

Seeing that I didn't respond, Anne got flustered. She hurriedly said, "Diana, you and Edward should remarry and return to the Howard family. We can team up to get rid of Aria. Then we can be happy like before. Isn't that good?" Her voice had a hint of desperation.
