Chapter 166 Not Having Complete Home

"Don't worry. I've got some self-control." He didn't seem to expect an answer and just kept talking to himself. When I didn't respond, he called out again, "Diana, are you asleep?"

After deciding I was out cold, Edward tiptoed out and gently closed the door. If he'd come closer and really looked, he would've seen I was faking it, but he didn't.

The door clicked shut, leaving me alone with my swirling thoughts. I started to regret agreeing to come back with Edward.

Suddenly, I remembered I hadn't told Lila I was back at the Howard Villa. Worried she'd go to the hospital in the morning and not find me, I grabbed my phone. Too scared to call in case Edward was still lurking, I shot her a text instead: [I'm back at the Howard Villa, come get me.]

I desperately hoped she'd see it and come rescue me. Clutching my phone, I kept checking for a reply, but nothing came. Feeling a bit let down, I eventually drifted into a deep, dreamless sleep.

When I woke up the next morning, it was already past ten. I reached under my pillow for my phone and saw that Lila had called a bunch of times. I quickly called her back, and she answered right away. "Diana."

Feeling guilty, I quickly said, "Lila, didn't you go to work?"

Lila sounded a bit annoyed, "Work? I'm at your place! I was so worried about you."

"I'm at the Howard Villa. I sent you a message last night; I'm not sure if you saw it," I said, sitting up in a hurry.

"Silly, of course I saw it. That's why I'm here. You're finally awake?" she said, a hint of reproach in her voice.

I jumped out of bed and ran barefoot out of the room. From the second-floor railing, I saw Lila sitting on the living room sofa downstairs, looking pretty ticked off.

I waved excitedly and shouted, "Lila, come up!"

She said, "You were sleeping like a baby, so deeply."

She glared at me and then headed towards the kitchen. Curious, I kept my eyes on the kitchen, waiting for her to come out. After a bit, she came upstairs with a tray.

Lila plopped the tray down on the coffee table, frowning and a bit angry. "Melissa said you're malnourished, so eat up! I'm watching you eat today."

She then sat on the sofa, arms crossed, staring at me. I didn't hold back and started chowing down like I hadn't eaten in days. Before long, I had demolished every last morsel on the tray. Leaning back with a satisfied sigh, I wiped my mouth and quipped, "After eating Clara's hospital food for so long, Melissa's cooking is a godsend."

Seeing I was done, Lila finally asked, "So, what's the deal?"

I glanced nervously at the door and motioned for her to keep it down. She got the hint, looked towards the door, and then winked at me like, "I got you." She tiptoed over and gently closed it.

Lila sat back down, frowning. "Diana, what's going on?"

I sighed, feeling defeated. "The doctor said I could be discharged this morning, but last night, Edward and Melissa showed up at the hospital with a bunch of bodyguards, made a huge scene, and dragged me back to the villa," I explained.

Lila looked shocked. "Isn't that like kidnapping?"

I shook my head, feeling helpless. "Not really. They haven't exactly locked me up. This is still my home. But I don't get why Melissa, who was all for my divorce, suddenly did a 180 and now wants me to stay with Edward."

Lila's eyes widened. "Are you saying Melissa was bought off by Edward?"

I shook my head again, frowning. "I don't know. She just kept saying the kid needs a complete family."

Lila tilted her head and asked, "Diana, do you worry about the kid not having a complete family?"

I was puzzled. "I hadn't thought about it, but after Melissa mentioned it, I guess I'm feeling a bit unsure."

"Have you ever thought about giving the kid a complete home with someone else?" Lila asked, her eyes locked on mine.

I looked confused. "What do you mean? I don't get it."

Lila patiently explained, "I mean, have you thought about remarrying after the divorce and creating a new family?"

I sighed and shook my head slowly. "No, after what I've been through, I'm done with love. I just want to be with my baby and live a quiet life."

Hearing this, Lila looked deflated. "Are you saying you don't even want me as a friend anymore?"

Her reaction made me laugh. "Why would you say that? How could I ever stop being friends with you? I'd never leave you."

Lila brightened up and laughed. "I knew it; you still care about me." She then hugged me tightly and kissed my cheek.

I quickly pushed her away, laughing. "Stop it! You know I'm not into that. I like men who are cultured, charming, and handsome."

Lila raised an eyebrow and said confidently, "Well, I do know a guy who ticks all those boxes."

She then seemed to remember something, reached into her handbag, and pulled out a small red pouch, placing it gently on the coffee table.
