Chapter 277 Her Name is Skylar

Hearing the newborn's cry, Edward froze for a moment. Then, his eyes lit up with emotion as he squeezed my hand, his voice brimming with joy. "Diana, our baby is here!"

As the midwife turned to clean the baby, Edward eagerly followed, his eyes shining with the excitement and anticipation of a new dad, desperate to see his child.

Not long after, he rushed back to my side, leaned down, and kissed my forehead tenderly. With deep gratitude, he said, "Diana, thank you so much for giving me such a wonderful daughter. From now on, the three of us will be so happy together, okay?"

He held my hand tightly, as if afraid that this happiness would slip away if he let go.

But as soon as I heard his words, the joy I felt from our child's birth vanished. Looking at Edward, someone who was once so close to me but had also put me through unimaginable trials, I felt a wave of sadness wash over me.

I slowly turned my head, avoiding Edward's gaze, my voice weak but firm. "Just go. I don't want to see you. Don't come back again; I don't want you near my child." Tears streamed down my face.

Edward's joyful expression froze. He looked at me in disbelief, his eyes filled with hurt and confusion.

"Diana, I..." he tried to explain, but when he saw the cold tears on my face, his words caught in his throat, stifled by my silent rejection.

Edward stood there, his eyes full of pain and bewilderment. After a long pause, he spoke slowly, pleading. "Diana, I know this incident caused you immense suffering, and I deeply regret it. I was forced to take a lot of nerve-suppressing medication, but I didn't realize my condition made it unsafe to drive. I just wanted to prove my love for you. I never intended for this to happen. Please, give me another chance. I promise I'll protect you and our child with my life."

I closed my eyes, unwilling to look at him, biting my lip as I spoke. "Another chance? You have no idea how terrified I was, teetering on the edge of death, or how desperate I felt at the thought of possibly losing our child once again."

Edward's body swayed, as if my words had struck him hard. He was silent for a moment, then slowly walked to the bedside, crouched down, and enveloped my hand with his.

I instinctively tried to pull away but lacked the strength.

He looked at me, his eyes filled with remorse.

"Diana, I don't expect you to forgive me right away. I just hope you'll allow me a chance to make things right. Our child needs a father, and I can't imagine my life without both of you," he said.

At this, I slowly opened my eyes, looking at him, tears blurring my vision again.

I said, "As long as I'm with you, bad things always seem to happen. If you truly care about me and our child, please stay away from us."

Hearing this, Edward gently released my hand, stood up, and looked at me deeply."I get it, Diana. I'll give you the time and space you need, but please, don't take away my right to be with our child completely." With that, he turned and walked heavily towards the door.

He paused at the threshold but didn't look back, finally opening the door and stepping out. As I listened to his footsteps fade away, my tears began to flow uncontrollably.

After Edward left, I stayed lost in my sadness. Tears streamed down my face, mixing with the sweat on my forehead, quickly soaking the pillow.

Just then, a nurse came over, cradling the freshly cleaned baby in her arms.

"Come on, look at our adorable baby. Isn't she lovely?" she said softly, gently placing the swaddled baby in my arms.

I slowly lowered my head to gaze at the new life in my arms. Her eyes were clear and bright, filled with the curiosity of a newborn as she cautiously observed me. Her tiny mouth moved ever so slightly, as if searching for something, and her pink face radiated the freshness of new life, making me long to plant a gentle kiss on it. In that moment of eye contact, a warm feeling surged through my heart, pushing away all my sadness.

"You've just given birth, and your body is still very weak. You really mustn't be too sad," the nurse gently reminded me as she helped adjust my hold on the baby.

She added, "If you're in a good mood, your baby will feel all the joy, too. She'll grow up healthy in your happiness."

I nodded slightly, reaching out to touch the baby's tiny hand. To my surprise, she immediately grasped my finger tightly. Though her grip was weak, it brought me unprecedented comfort.

"Baby, Mommy will take care of you with all my heart," I whispered softly in her ear.

The nurse watched us, her eyes full of understanding and care, and said warmly, "Don't overthink it. The baby's father truly seems to care about you both. Every couple faces some bumps along the way. Once you're feeling better, try to find a good time to talk things out; you might just clear up those misunderstandings. By the way, has the baby been named yet?"

Hearing this, I looked at the baby lying beside me, and the image of a little girl who had appeared in my dreams countless times came to mind.

Then I replied, "Thank you. Her name is Skylar."

I lifted my head, my gaze more determined.

I added, "For my Skylar, I will be strong."

In the days that followed, Edward seemed to pour all his energy into me. Every morning, he would appear at my door with carefully selected flowers in one hand and expensive supplements in the other.

But each time he tried to win me over, I resolutely turned him away. His voice echoed from outside the door. Despite the sincerity of his apologies, I felt numb, my heart untouched. His words held no meaning for me; they failed to reach me in any way.

As time went on, I couldn't help but wonder: Anne had been arrested, and Edward, as a key figure in the Howard Group, didn't he need to handle the mountain of affairs there? How could he appear outside my hospital room every day, seemingly abandoning all responsibilities and burdens, focusing solely on trying to win me back?
