Chapter 73 The Rose Blooming in the Palm of a Lover
On Friday night, as Melissa brought out the last dish from the kitchen, Anne and Edward strolled down the stairs together. Edward, looking all lovey-dovey, pulled out a chair for Anne. That sweet look on his face was something I hadn't seen in ages. Anne's flirty behavior was enough to make me roll my eyes.
"Edward, check out my new manicure! Isn't it super cute?" Anne said, waving her hand in front of him.
Edward took her hand, gave it a good look, and smiled, "Yeah, it's really nice. Totally suits you."
I came out of the kitchen with the food, just in time to catch this little scene. My hand shook a bit, almost spilling the bowl. I forced myself to sound calm, "Dinner's ready." Edward finally noticed me, and gave a soft reply, but his eyes quickly drifted back to Anne.
Anne, clearly trying to get under my skin, said in a sugary voice, "Edward, these roast ribs smell amazing. I can't wait to dig in."
Edward actually smiled at her, "If you like them, have some more." He even playfully tapped her nose.
Melissa placed the food in front of Edward, "These roast ribs were made by Mrs. Howard! Mr. Howard, you should try them too."
Anne pretended to be surprised, covering her mouth, "Diana, you're incredible, unlike me, who can't do anything."
I scoffed internally, 'Can't do anything? More like you're only good at stealing Edward.' I slowly sat down, staring at the food in front of me, but I had no appetite.
Edward seemed clueless about my discomfort. He kept serving Anne food, softly saying, "Try this dish. You're still growing; eat more." Anne coyly said, "Edward, feed me."
'Growing? No matter how much you eat, you'll still be a twig,' I muttered inwardly.
My hand gripped the chopsticks tightly, my knuckles turning white. I felt like my chest was about to burst with anger.
I took a deep breath, trying to keep my voice steady, "Anne, tomorrow is Saturday. Why don't you go back to the Howard mansion to see Hayden and Clara? Clara called yesterday saying she misses you."
Anne pouted, "But I have plans with Edward to go to a comic convention tomorrow! I found a great dessert place last time. Their cakes are delicious and won't make you fat! We'll bring one back for you, Diana!" Thinking about the desserts, Anne's voice became cheerful again.
I looked at her, then at Edward, forcing a smile. "I'm not really into desserts, but you two enjoy them."
Anne didn't notice my change in mood and continued serving Edward food, "Edward, this is your favorite. Have more." Her voice was sickeningly sweet.
Edward didn't refuse, even smiling as he responded, "Anne, you should eat too." I sat quietly on the side, the utensils in my hand felt impossibly heavy.
Comic conventions? Desserts? I never knew Edward had an interest in these things. I vaguely remembered that, during college, when the school club held events, Edward would scold girls for wearing slightly unusual outfits. I couldn't believe that in just a few years, Edward had taken a liking to comic conventions. Was it that for Anne's sake, he was willing to accept things he didn't like?
I stared at Edward. He continued eating calmly, occasionally serving Anne food. The two of them were eating happily, while I couldn't take a single bite. I tried to find some new topics to break this uneasy atmosphere.
"Edward, do you have plans for tonight?" I was just making small talk.
"Tonight, I need to help Anne with something. What was it?" Edward peeled a shrimp for Anne, not even taking his eyes off her.
"Props! I'm the star cosplayer tomorrow, and my props aren't ready yet!" Anne dropped her utensils and clung to Edward's arm, shaking it like a child.
I slowly stood up, looked at them, and said, "You two go ahead; I'm not feeling well." With that, I turned and quickly walked towards the bedroom. Behind me, there was a heavy silence while my heart was filled with pain and anger.
I knew I couldn't let Anne keep this up. I had to do something. 'Anne, you're too young to mess with me.' I decided to do something special to get Edward's attention.
In the bedroom, the dim light fell gently, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. I stood in front of the large dressing mirror, a shy yet expectant smile on my lips.
I took out a brand-new nightgown, which swayed gently with my movements. The gown unfolded, softly sliding over my skin. The bright red nightgown made my skin look even fairer, like a delicate rose blooming in a lover's palm.
The nightgown's neckline was cut just right, revealing my full, round breasts. The hem swayed at my legs, and beneath the gown, a pair of long, straight legs emerged, like those of a fairy from ancient mythology. The lines of my legs were smooth and straight, transitioning naturally and gracefully from thigh to calf, like a meticulously crafted sculpture exuding a charming aura in the air.
I carefully smoothed out the wrinkles in the gown, my fingers gently brushing over the fabric's surface, thinking to myself, 'Edward will definitely love it.'
After making ample preparations, it was still early. From the main bedroom, I could hear Anne and Edward talking and laughing. 'I'll give you a little more time,' I thought as I opened my laptop and organized the latest information on Alice's divorce case.
Until late at night, everything was silent. I stood up and stretched my limbs. The main bedroom had long since quieted down. I turned off my laptop and quietly sneaked to the main bedroom, the room I had lived in for four years but no longer belonged to me.
Soon, I would sneak into the room and seduce Edward in front of the sleeping Anne, making him willingly come to my bed.
I felt a twinge of sadness. If it weren't for Anne, my marriage would be an enviable union of wealth, happiness, and bliss.
But now, I had to resort to seducing Edward. It was laughable. My heart pounded violently. I closed my eyes, adjusting my breathing, trying to calm my emotions.
I tiptoed into the bedroom. The dim light cast an ambiguous glow in the room. To my surprise, Edward wasn't sleeping in the same bed as Anne. Anne slept quietly and sweetly on the bed while Edward lay half-asleep on the sofa. I wasn't sure if he was asleep, but he didn't notice my approach.
I walked with light steps, each step carrying an indescribable allure. When I reached Edward, he suddenly grabbed me. Startled, I stumbled and fell into his arms. Our eyes met, and I saw a fiery passion in his gaze.
Edward tilted his head slightly, a seductive smile on his lips. "Diana, I've been waiting for you. You finally came."
"Darling, I'm here." My voice was as sweet as honey.
I slowly leaned closer to him, the scent of my perfume mingling with my unique body fragrance, enveloping us. I crossed my legs over his, the smooth silk nightgown revealing glimpses of skin like the most tempting bait.
I reached out and caressed his cheek, my fingers tracing his contours slowly, my eyes full of affection and seduction, "Did you miss me?" I could feel Edward's breath quicken, his gaze as if he wanted to devour me.
