Chapter 41 Basement
In this dreamy haze, it felt like some invisible force was pulling me back to four years ago, right when Edward and I had just tied the knot.
Back then, my love for Edward was like a wildfire—intense and pure. He was all I could think about, and I would've done anything for him. Edward was the brightest star in my life, shining with an irresistible light.
Edward had just taken over the Howard Group and was out almost every night for social events. Oddly, I relished those nights. Whenever I knew he had an event, I'd get this rush of excitement. I'd start getting ready at sunset, picking out the sexiest lingerie, putting on the most flawless makeup, and letting my long hair fall just right to show off my curves. I'd sit on the living room sofa, waiting for him. Sometimes, he'd come back super late, and I'd keep glancing at the door, hoping he'd walk in any minute. Even if it got to midnight, I'd still be there, waiting. The wait was long, but the anticipation was sweet.
But Edward never knew that those "casual" waits were actually my own little love rituals.
One time, I was lying on the sofa in a white camisole nightgown, waiting for him. He came back really late that night. I waited so long that I dozed off. Suddenly, I felt strong arms lifting me up. I opened my eyes a bit and saw Edward, looking exhausted and smelling like alcohol. But his eyes were burning with passion. He carried me, kissing me all the way to the bedroom. I pretended to stay asleep, soaking in his kisses. He expertly slipped off my nightgown, his touch a mix of possessiveness and tenderness. He tossed me onto the soft bed, leaving me naked in front of him.
Edward's eyes locked onto mine, his Adam's apple bobbing as he leaned in to kiss me. When his cold lips met mine, it felt like electricity coursing through my body. He kissed me with a dominating passion, the taste of alcohol mixing with our kiss, and I got lost under him. His body pressed down on mine, filled with endless desire and deep affection. He was breathing heavily, his chest rising and falling. He kissed me from my lips to my collarbone, and then to every inch of my sensitive skin. My body responded to him on its own, the world around us blurring and warming with our intimacy, our fluids mingling like mysterious rivers. He was always both dominating and gentle, the intense physical connection making me both scared and excited. I was lost in this endless love and passion, constantly craving more from him.
Suddenly, a different conversation intruded on the mind.
"Edward, I want to keep going," Anne said.
"Anne, are you sure this won't cause any issues?" I heard Edward's voice.
"Edward, what are you scared of? As long as we get what we want, it's all worth it," Anne's voice was sharp and cold.
With a pounding headache, I struggled to open my eyes. The place was dark and the air felt so heavy it was hard to breathe. A weak light filtered in from a small high vent, casting hazy beams with dust slowly dancing in them. A small puddle of dirty water on the cracked concrete floor gave off a foul stench. The rough walls were covered with water stains and moss, making it look like a basement that hadn't been touched in ages.
I tried to move but realized I was tied to a chair with ropes. Anne stood across from me, her eyes cold and smug.
Seeing me awake, Anne raised her chin slightly and sneered, "Diana, look at you now. How pathetic!"
I glared at Anne and shouted, "Anne, why are you doing this to me?"
Anne snorted, a flash of resentment in her eyes. "I love Edward, and Edward loves me, but you took what was mine! Now I'm taking it back."
I glanced at Edward, his eyes showing both genuine concern and a hint of calculation. I asked, "Edward, is this your idea too?"
Edward was silent for a moment, then slowly said, "Diana, you brought this on yourself. You were too naive. We were just a business marriage, no feelings involved. If you took it seriously, you lost."
Edward frowned, looking at Anne with a hint of dissatisfaction, "Let's get this over with quickly."
"No, Edward, Diana made me suffer so much, I want her to pay," Anne turned to me. "If you don't cooperate, we'll have to get rough."
"Anne, this is illegal detention!" I growled.
"Oh, I'm so scared Ms. Cooper will have me arrested!" Anne said dramatically, clutching her chest. "But you need to get out of this room first before you can say that!"
Edward's face darkened and he urged, "Don't waste time on petty squabble."
Anne bit her lip, glaring at Edward unwillingly, but didn't continue.
I looked at Edward, who narrowed his eyes slightly, a hint of ruthlessness in his gaze.
I hadn't fully figured out what was going on, and couldn't help but ask Edward, "Is this what you meant by us having a good talk? Did you two plan everything here today?"
"Diana!" Edward interrupted, narrowing his eyes slightly, a hint of ruthlessness in his gaze. "I've given you many chances! You kept hurting Anne, now it's your turn to suffer!"
I gritted my teeth and said, "You will face legal consequences for this."
Anne laughed. "Once we achieve our goal, we'll flee far away. Who will care about the law then?"
I tried to stay calm, thinking of a way to get out of this mess.
