Chapter 367 Plotting

Lila snapped out of her thoughts and said, "David, if you're too tired, why don't we find a place to chill for a bit?"

David shook his head and forced a smile. "Nah, I'm good. It's probably just the stress lately. My nerves are a bit shot, but I'll keep my focus on driving."

Even though I was still a bit uneasy, sensing his determination, I didn't say anything more.

The car started up again, but this time, the atmosphere was even tenser than before.

I watched David through the rearview mirror and noticed his eyes were somewhat unfocused, as if he was still caught up in the danger we just faced.

Lila noticed something was off, too. She gently nudged me with her elbow and mouthed, "What's up with David?"

I glanced at David, who was driving, and shook my head slightly.

Finally, I couldn't resist asking, "David, is something bothering you today? You seem a bit off."

Lila chimed in, "Yeah, you've seemed off since we got in the car. Maybe if you talk about it, we can help."

David sighed softly and pulled the car over to the side of the road. He turned to look at us, his expression complex.

He remarked, "Actually, I do have some stuff I don't know how to express. Seeing that cat earlier brought back a lot of bad memories, and I got distracted."

"Why don't you tell us? Maybe we can give you some advice," Lila suggested eagerly.

Then David looked at me through the rearview mirror and said, "If you were in charge of that land, I'd be completely at ease. Even Lucas, I wouldn't mind. You both have the capability and responsibility. But Anne... she's just leveraging her ambiguous relationship with Nicholas..."

David didn't finish his sentence, but I understood his meaning completely.

I burst out laughing and said, "Lucas feels the same way."

"What? Lucas is eyeing that land too?" David asked, suddenly anxious.

Lila asked, "What are you talking about? Why didn't Lucas tell me?" She seemed completely unaware, so I had to recount the events of that night to her—except for the fact that Jeffrey and I had known each other for a long time and had even been close.

In the end, Anne's arrogant yet incompetent image flashed in my mind.

"She thinks she can handle the project? That's a joke. I guarantee Anne won't be able to manage it," I scoffed.

Seeing David's worried expression, I couldn't help but advise, "David, as long as the Wilson Group hasn't gone bankrupt, there's still hope. This project is just starting, and there will be plenty of opportunities ahead. Everyone knows Anne's capabilities; she can't handle this. If we stay calm and do our jobs well, the project will ultimately be yours."

David thought for a moment and nodded slowly. "You're right. I can't let this defeat me. It's just that thinking about it frustrates me."

I smiled and encouraged him, "I get it, but you need to stay calm and prepare for each step ahead."

David looked at me and nodded seriously. I knew he had regained his fighting spirit.

Noticing him slightly more composed, I tentatively asked, "David, have you resolved things with the Griffin family?"David gave a bitter smile, still looking worn out. "It's not that easy. Solve one problem, and another pops up," he said.

He started to vent. "I can't handle the Griffin family. I thought Nicholas and Jeffrey could mediate, but the Griffin family won't accept it. Especially Fiona. Ever since her miscarriage, she's been a different person, constantly causing trouble for me."

David paused and sighed helplessly. "Sometimes I wish she could be half as understanding as you and Lila."

Hearing this, I felt a mix of emotions but still offered gentle advice. "Fiona's been through a lot; she's hurting. Give her time to recover."

Despite my words, Fiona's hysterical image popped into my mind. After hesitating, I decided to voice my concern. "I heard Fiona's planning to divorce you. Is that true?"

David was silent for a long time before nodding lightly. "It's true. She's already filed for divorce, and the court date is soon. My career is a mess, and now my family is falling apart. I don't know what to do."

Mentioning Fiona made David's eyes even more downcast.

Lila bit her lip, looking regretful. She said, "Losing a child is a huge blow for a woman. It's hard to move on. Is there really no way to save your marriage?"

David's hand trembled slightly on the steering wheel, his voice hoarse. "I know the Wilson family wronged her. I've been trying to make amends, but she won't give me a chance. Her heart isn't with me anymore."

David stared at the trees outside the window for a long time before speaking slowly. "I really don't want a divorce. How can I let go of the days we spent together?"

I patted his shoulder, trying to offer strength. "If you can't avoid it, face it head-on. Maybe there's still room for negotiation. After all, the project involves the Griffin family too," I said.

"Yeah, no matter what, we're here to support you," Lila encouraged.

I said firmly, "Exactly. I think Anne will definitely mess up. Keep an eye on her and find a chance to take the project back."

David looked puzzled. "What does taking the land from Anne have to do with Fiona?" he asked.

I watched the cars speeding by outside the window, plotting. "If you can take the project back from Anne, it will be a joint venture between you and the Griffin family. Having a profitable project together could be a bargaining chip for your marriage. After all, your marriage was a business arrangement to begin with."

David and Lila were stunned by my words. I was surprised by myself, too.

I used to oppose business marriages so strongly. I fought for my own marriage. But now, I could calmly suggest that David used business interests to save his marriage. Had I changed?

After a long time, David took a deep breath, his eyes rekindling with determination. He said, "Alright, I can't just let this go. I'll stabilize my career first and then figure out the rest."

Once we were back on the road, David's mood noticeably improved. We soon reached our destination. David skillfully found a parking spot and got out of the car first, waiting for Lila and me to join him.
