Chapter 86 Unexpectedly, Diana Also Has a Cunning Side

After signing the contract, Lila clutched the papers, beaming at me. "Diana, we gotta celebrate with a big meal today. What do you wanna eat?"

Before I could answer, Edward, who was standing nearby, let out a cold snort, clearly annoyed. Lila suddenly remembered he was there and turned to him. "Don't think just because you handed over the law firm to me, I'm gonna be grateful. I'm just holding it for Diana so you can't push her around anymore."

Edward shot up, eyes blazing with anger and confusion. "Lila, you think I bully Diana? When have you ever seen me do that?"

Lila crossed her arms, leaning in like she was ready to throw down. "You really gonna say you haven't? Remember when she booked that romantic hotel for you? And what did you do? Left her there alone and went off somewhere else. Do you think we're idiots? Look at your neck; those marks don't lie. How dare you stand here and yell at me?"

Each word from Lila was like a bullet aimed straight at Edward.

Edward's face went through a rainbow of emotions, his lips trembling as he tried to come up with a response. He instinctively touched his neck and glared at me with resentment.

After what felt like forever, he finally said, "It was an accident. Anne's just scared of thunderstorms. I didn't do what you're accusing me of."

Lila burst out laughing like she'd heard the funniest joke ever. "An accident? Seriously? Do you think we're kids? That excuse is so lame."

Edward's fury boiled over, his foot stomping the ground in frustration as he pointed an accusing finger at Lila. "Why are you always on my case? Do I have to report everything I do to you?"

Lila didn't miss a beat. "On your case? I don't have time for that. I just can't stand seeing Diana get hurt. Anyone who messes with her won't get away with it. If you were really innocent, you wouldn't be so worked up."

Edward was left speechless, glaring at me like he wanted to set me on fire with his eyes.

I hadn't expected Lila to call out Edward about the hickey on his neck, and I blushed.

My heart was in turmoil. On one hand, I was touched by Lila standing up for me. It was rare to have a friend who fought for me like that. Lila's every word was defending my dignity, and I knew she genuinely cared about me, which was why she was so harsh with Edward. It felt good to be valued. On the other hand, I was worried and conflicted. Seeing Edward's angry and hurt expression, I couldn't help but feel a bit guilty.

The mark on Edward's neck was something I had deliberately left, but I didn't dare admit it now. Fear held me captive—if I confessed, Lila might see me as foolish and be disappointed, while Edward's anger would undoubtedly intensify. Every option seemed risky, and my heart was torn between reason and emotion.

I was terrified they'd end up hating each other because of me. Lila was my best friend, and Edward had a special place in my life. I didn't want this to create a permanent rift between them. Seeing how things were escalating, I knew if they kept arguing, it would only get worse.

Taking advantage of a brief pause, I quickly grabbed Lila's arm and pulled her out of Edward's office. With urgency in my eyes, I whispered, "Lila, you might have misunderstood."

Lila's anger shifted towards me. She frowned, her eyes filled with confusion and anger, and snapped, "Misunderstood? Diana, have you even thought this through?"

She reached out to grab my hair, but I dodged, leaning my head to the side and stepping back.

I touched my nose and leaned close to her ear, glancing around cautiously as if afraid of being overheard, and whispered, "I left that hickey on him."

Lila's eyes widened, her mouth dropping open in disbelief. She suddenly hugged me tightly, her body trembling slightly with excitement. "What? You left it?"

I nodded, avoiding her eyes, and said softly, "Before Edward came back to the villa yesterday, I deliberately left a mark on his neck. That way, even if he went back to Anne, she'd know what happened between us."

Lila patted my shoulder, her eyes sparkling with excitement, a surprised smile on her face. "Diana, I never thought you had such a cunning side. Anne must be furious seeing that mark on Edward's neck, right?" Her bad mood seemed to vanish instantly.

Seizing the moment, I pushed Lila into the car. "Alright, Lila, can you go home now?" I said, closing the car door firmly.

Lila tapped on the window, looking at me through the glass. "Didn't we agree to have a big meal? Why are you sending me off alone?"

I waved at her with an apologetic smile. "We'll have that meal, but not today. Save it for next time."

Lila rolled down the window, frowning with a hint of doubt. "Are you going back to that jerk?"

I nodded, a slight smile on my lips. "Don't be so harsh. Edward did give us the ownership of Stellar Legal Advisors. Considering his generosity, I should at least comfort him a bit, right?"

Lila reluctantly rolled up the window, muttering, "Fine, you selfish person, go back to your husband."

After sending Lila off, I took a deep breath and turned back towards Edward's office. With each step, my emotions grew more complex. I gently pushed open the door. It was quiet inside, with Edward sitting at his desk, facing the window. Hearing the door open, he turned his head. My heart pounded, feeling as nervous as the first time I got close to him.

"Diana," Edward said.

I gently leaned on his shoulder. He was initially startled, then cautiously wrapped his arm around me. I could feel his body tense up, a mix of surprise and joy. Gradually, his arm tightened, the embrace gentle yet filled with an uncontrollable excitement.

"You're quite generous with Lila, giving away such a big law firm just like that?" he whispered in my ear, his warm breath brushing against my hair.
